A Mission of Giving

The Las Vegas Rescue Mission is not just a charity; it is a lifeline for many. This December, the mission is accepting donations at the Gardens, Trails, Vistas, and Willows Community Centers, inviting the community to share in the joy of giving. The items sought include blankets, winter coats, bath towels, underwear, and essential hygiene products, along with child and baby items like diapers and pajamas. These donations are more than just goods; they are gestures of hope and care for those facing challenging times.

More Than Just a Hand-Out

What sets the Las Vegas Rescue Mission apart is its philosophy of offering a 'hand-up, not just a hand-out.' This approach goes beyond mere charity; it's about empowering individuals. The mission provides meals, clothing, household items, and crucial life-skills counseling, all designed to help people regain their footing in life. It's a testament to the mission's belief in the potential of every individual to overcome adversity with the right support.

Hollywood Glitz Hits Vegas: Fontainebleau's Grand Opening a Star-Filled Bash

Justin Timberlake, Tom Brady, Paul Anka, and Cher trying their luck at the casino games.

The grand opening of the Fontainebleau Hotel's new $3.7 billion resort in Las Vegas was a star-studded affair, drawing Hollywood celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Cher, Tom Brady, and Kendall Jenner. The event, marking the Miami landmark's expansion into Las Vegas, was a glamorous showcase of celebrity presence and entertainment.

Among the notable attendees were Sylvester Stallone with his wife, Jennifer Flavin, and "Breaking Bad" stars Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston. The event also saw appearances from Eva Longoria, Tyga, Ivanka Trump, Tommy Hilfiger, Keith Urban, Alice Cooper, Jonathan Cheban, and Paul Anka.

Highlighting the evening, performances by Keith Urban, Paul Anka, and Justin Timberlake captivated the audience. Timberlake later made an appearance at David Grutman's LIV Nightclub, also celebrating its opening. The Fontainebleau's launch in Las Vegas lived up to the city's reputation for extravagance and entertainment, attracting a large crowd of celebrities and guests.

Mark Wahlberg's 'The Family Plan': A New Action-Comedy Gem on Apple TV+

Mark Wahlberg's latest film, "The Family Plan," a family-friendly action-comedy, is set to premiere on Apple TV+ this Friday. The film presents Wahlberg as a former assassin turned suburban dad, whose past unexpectedly resurfaces. Wahlberg expressed his enthusiasm for the film, highlighting its appeal to all family members, a rare find in movies today.

"The Family Plan" begins with a dramatic scene where Wahlberg's character defends himself in a grocery store, all while carrying his 10-month-old baby. This scene, intended to set the tone for the film, was challenging to shoot, especially with the use of real babies instead of dolls. Director Simon Cellan Jones, known for "Boardwalk Empire," found the concept innovative but the execution demanding. In the editing room, however, the team discovered the scenes with the babies turned out impressively.

Michelle Monaghan stars alongside Wahlberg as his wife, bringing an element of spontaneity to their on-screen family life. Monaghan, who previously worked with Wahlberg on "Patriot's Day," was drawn to the script's comedic aspect and the heartfelt family dynamics.

Much of the movie was filmed in Las Vegas, Wahlberg's new home. He dreams of transforming the city into a film production hub, dubbed "Hollywood 2.0," with incentives like tax credits and better living conditions for film crews. Wahlberg is optimistic about the potential growth of the film industry in Las Vegas, separate from its gaming identity.

Wahlberg and Cellan Jones are also collaborating on another project, "Arthur the King," a heartwarming story about an adventure racer and a stray dog. This film, set to release in March by Lionsgate, contrasts "The Family Plan" with its unique theme and setting.

Regarding the evolving landscape of film distribution, Wahlberg acknowledges the shift towards streaming platforms while maintaining a fondness for theatrical releases. His experience watching "The Family Plan" at home, drawing the whole family's attention, affirmed the film's suitability for a home viewing experience.

Lee Canyon Resort Announces Reopening with Expanded Amenities and New Lifts

Lee Canyon Resort in Mount Charleston, NV, is set to reopen after severe storms forced an early end to its summer season. The resort, which faced significant storm damage in August due to Tropical Storm Hillary, has announced its readiness to commence the winter season starting December 15th.

Jim Seely, the resort's marketing director, recounted the arduous process of recovery. Fortunately, Lee Canyon had heavy machinery like bobcats and backhoes on-site for off-season improvements, which proved essential for the cleanup and restoration efforts.

The resort is not only reopening but also celebrating a $7 million expansion. This includes a new chairlift, the Rabbit Peak chair, which will offer skiers access to new terrain and simplify the flow for getting onto the chairlifts. Additionally, 450 new parking spots have been added, enhancing convenience for visitors.

The expansion is part of an initiative under new ownership, which aims to offer more to local skiing enthusiasts and their families. A standout feature is the free season pass for children 12 and under, a move that encourages young skiers and snowboarders.

Lee Canyon is also part of a network that includes sister resorts Brian Head and Snowbowl Arizona, allowing season pass holders to access multiple locations. With the temperatures dropping, the resort's snowmakers are ready to begin snow production, ensuring the slopes are prepared for mid-December opening.

The Rabbit Peak chair, servicing beginner terrains, will open at 9 a.m., with all base area amenities available for guests. The resort plans to open trails in higher elevations as soon as there is sufficient snow to form a stable base.

Adidas, Puma, H&M Among First to Join BLVD's 2025 Opening on Las Vegas Strip

BLVD, an expansive retail, dining, and entertainment center, is expected to make a grand debut on the Las Vegas Strip in 2025. Major brands like Adidas, Puma, and H&M have already committed to occupying space in this innovative development.

The project, a 400,000-square-foot venture by Gindi Capital and the Cherng Family Trust, celebrated a significant milestone with a topping-off ceremony marking the placement of the last metal beam. However, construction is slated to continue until August 2024, with tenants planning to welcome the public in early 2025.

Michael Hirschfeld, vice chairman of JLL, overseeing the leasing operations, highlighted the high interest from brands in leasing spaces, attributing it to the dynamic nature of the Strip's ever-changing population. According to JLL studies, approximately 35 to 38 million people pass by the BLVD site annually.

Adidas is set to occupy a prominent 25,000 square feet, while Puma and H&M have each secured 20,000 square feet. BLVD's design includes retail and experiential spaces on the first two floors and a 110,000-square-foot dining terrace on the top level, featuring up to a dozen restaurants and a public event space overlooking the Strip.

Vincent Tatum, president of Grand Canyon Development Partners, emphasized BLVD's aim to make high-end retail and dining more accessible to tourists and pedestrians. The project intends to offer a blend of approachability and luxury, changing perceptions about high-end cultural products being out of reach for many visitors.

The leasing strategy at BLVD is unique, charging tenants based on linear feet fronting Las Vegas Boulevard instead of the traditional dollar-per-square-foot rate. The project, located on the south side of the Strip, is part of a broader development boom in the area, including new stadiums and a 43-story casino-resort by billionaire Tilman Fertitta.

Clark County Commissioner James Gibson, present at the topping-off ceremony, expressed optimism about the project's potential to attract visitors and contribute to the vibrant Las Vegas Boulevard scene.

Historic Win for Raiders: Crush Chargers 63-21 in Thursday Night Showdown

The Las Vegas Raiders delivered a historic performance on Thursday Night Football, crushing the Los Angeles Chargers 63-21 at Allegiant Stadium. This victory sets a new record for the most points scored by the Raiders in a single game, pushing their season record to 6-8 and keeping their playoff hopes faintly alive.

The Raiders led 42-0 at halftime, marking the Chargers' worst halftime deficit in their history and tying the Raiders' record for most points in a first half. The lead extended to 49-0 early in the third quarter, effectively quashing any possibility of a Chargers comeback.

Raiders quarterback Aidan O'Connell shone in what may be his best rookie season performance, throwing four touchdowns for 241 yards with no interceptions. Receivers Tre Tucker, Jakobi Meyers, and Michael Mayer were on the receiving end of O'Connell's touchdowns, with Davante Adams scoring on a trick play pass from Meyers. Running back Zamir White and rookie receiver Tucker each scored their first career touchdowns.

The Chargers, playing without quarterback Justin Herbert and wide receiver Keenan Allen, struggled against the Raiders' defense. The Raiders forced two fumble recoveries in the first half and added another in special teams, setting up their offense for success. The second half saw continued dominance by the Raiders' defense, with John Jenkins and Jack Jones scoring on a fumble recovery and interception, respectively.

Looking ahead, the Raiders are set to face the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs in Kansas City on Christmas Day, with kickoff scheduled for 10 a.m. local time.

UFC 296 Showdown: Edwards Defends Welterweight Title Against Covington

At UFC 296, the final pay-per-view event of the year, welterweight champion Leon Edwards is set to defend his title against third-ranked challenger Colby Covington. Despite Edwards questioning Covington's deservingness of the title shot, citing Covington's previous failures to secure the belt, the focus remains on their upcoming clash.

Edwards, emphasizing the significance of their bout, dismissed the relevance of whether Covington deserves the opportunity, focusing instead on his goal to defeat him. Covington, known for his provocative persona, arrived at the pre-fight news conference adorned with "Make America Great Again" imagery and made jabs at Edwards' intelligence, heart, and decision not to fight in the UK.

Covington, 35, confidently anticipated victory and the symbolic gesture of having former President Donald Trump, expected to attend, place the championship belt around his waist. Despite Covington's provocations, Edwards, 32, remained unfazed, labeling him a "clown" and part of the pre-fight spectacle.

Edwards critiqued Covington's fighting style, pointing out his past losses by submission, technical knockout, and unanimous decision, and expressed confidence in a game plan tailored to neutralize Covington's strengths.

Covington, who last fought in March 2022 with a unanimous decision win over Jorge Masvidal, promised a transformed fighting style and an intention to reveal Edwards' weaknesses.

Additionally, the event features a flyweight title co-main event between champion Alexandre Pantoja of Brazil and Denver's second-ranked challenger Brandon Royval. This rematch follows Pantoja's victory over Royval in August 2021 and Royval's subsequent three-fight winning streak.
