A Beacon of Hope in the Heart of Las Vegas
In the bustling city of Las Vegas, known for its glittering lights and endless entertainment, lies a haven of compassion and support - the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. This December, the mission shines even brighter as it embarks on a heartwarming initiative to gather donations for those in need, proving that the spirit of giving is alive and well in the city of neon lights.
A Mission of Giving
The Las Vegas Rescue Mission is not just a charity; it is a lifeline for many. This December, the mission is accepting donations at the Gardens, Trails, Vistas, and Willows Community Centers, inviting the community to share in the joy of giving. The items sought include blankets, winter coats, bath towels, underwear, and essential hygiene products, along with child and baby items like diapers and pajamas. These donations are more than just goods; they are gestures of hope and care for those facing challenging times.
More Than Just a Hand-Out
What sets the Las Vegas Rescue Mission apart is its philosophy of offering a 'hand-up, not just a hand-out.' This approach goes beyond mere charity; it's about empowering individuals. The mission provides meals, clothing, household items, and crucial life-skills counseling, all designed to help people regain their footing in life. It's a testament to the mission's belief in the potential of every individual to overcome adversity with the right support.
A Community United
The Las Vegas Rescue Mission's initiative is a reflection of the community's spirit. It's a reminder that amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life, there's a community ready to support its most vulnerable members. The mission's efforts in December are not just about collecting items; they're about bringing people together, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.
Join the Mission
As the holiday season approaches, the Las Vegas Rescue Mission invites everyone to be part of this noble cause. Whether it's through donating goods or volunteering time, every contribution makes a difference. It's an opportunity for the residents of Las Vegas to show that their city is not just about bright lights and entertainment, but also about warmth, generosity, and community spirit. Learn More.

Resilient 2-Year-Old Receives Bravery Award in Heartwarming Ceremony
A 2-year-old girl, Ava Dieguez, was honored with a "Bravery Award" by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department after her remarkable recovery from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident occurred when Ava found a gun left by a fleeing teenager, Tshaun Rucker, who was involved in a separate shooting incident.
The award ceremony was heartfelt, with Deputy Chief Reggie Rader and officers from Metro’s Northeast Command in attendance. The little girl enjoyed a ride in a fire engine, received a "My Little Pony" toy, and celebrated with pizza and balloons. Rucker, the teen responsible for leaving the gun, faces multiple charges, including attempted murder.
The police have shown exceptional support for Ava, acknowledging her resilience and the strength of her siblings during her recovery.
Durango Casino's Culinary Delights Transform Southwest Las Vegas
The new Durango casino in Southwest Las Vegas, valued at $780 million, is becoming a prominent culinary and nightlife destination. It boasts an 83,000-square-foot casino-hotel tower, including six stand-alone restaurants and a food hall with 11 different food vendors. Notable eateries include Nicco’s Prime Cuts & Fresh Fish, Mijo Modern Mexican Restaurant, and the George Sportsmen’s Lounge, each offering unique dining experiences.
The casino resort also features Summer House, Bel-Aire Lounge, and Oasis Lounge, catering to diverse tastes. Furthermore, the 'Eat Your Heart Out' food hall introduces new concepts like Ai Pono Café and Fiorella, alongside Vegas mainstays such as Nielsen’s Frozen Custard and Oyster Bar.
This development is a significant addition to Las Vegas' vibrant dining scene, making the southwest area a burgeoning food and drink stronghold.
Historic Gold Spike & Oasis Hotel Hits the Market in Downtown Las Vegas
The historic Gold Spike & Oasis hotel in downtown Las Vegas, part of the late Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh's real estate portfolio, is currently on the market. Handled by Logic Commercial Real Estate, offers were solicited for this property, with a deadline set for December 7. The asking price was not publicly disclosed. The property, opened in 1976 as the Rendezvous, includes 130 rooms and a bar and nightlife venue. Interestingly, the Gold Spike maintains its Nevada gaming license despite not operating gambling activities.
Tony Hsieh, who passed away in 2020, was a prominent figure in the revitalization of downtown Las Vegas and acquired the property in 2013 for $22 million. After his untimely death, his extensive portfolio, managed through his Downtown Project initiative, came under the administration of his family. Besides the Gold Spike & Oasis, other notable properties up for sale include The Downtowner and the John E. Carson building. In a recent development, Brendan Keating, Logic chairman, purchased a key downtown property from Hsieh's estate for $14.6 million.
NHL Forward Adam Brooks Joins Vegas Golden Knights Via Waivers
The Vegas Golden Knights have recently acquired forward Adam Brooks, as announced by General Manager Kelly McCrimmon. Brooks, a Winnipeg native, was claimed off waivers and has a history of playing with both the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL. With a total of 22 NHL games under his belt,
Brooks has accumulated nine points, including four goals and five assists. His performance also extends to two playoff games with Toronto in the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs. This season saw him play four games for the Canadiens, contributing one assist. Drafted in the fourth round by the Maple Leafs in 2016, Brooks also boasts an impressive record with the Toronto Marlies in the AHL and a standout season in the WHL with the Regina Pats.
