Personal Data of United Healthcare Members Potentially Exposed in Breach
Nevadans covered under United Healthcare may have had their information compromised, according to a press release on Friday.
Welltok, a company that provides communication services to United Healthcare, said in a press release that it discovered in early August that an unknown actor exploited a vulnerability in its transfer software three months earlier.
The unknown actor stole data from the company in that breach, and the press release said United Healthcare membersโ information was compromised in the incident.
The compromised information could include member names, addresses, phone numbers, member ID numbers, dates of birth, age, Medicaid ID numbers and type of insurance plans, according to Welltok. But the company said Social Security numbers, driverโs license numbers or financial account information was not compromised.
United Healthcare systems were not affected by the data breach and it encouraged members to regularly monitor their health insurance and other statements for suspicious activity.
Welltok is offering two years of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services to people impacted by the breach.
This data breach is a stark reminder of the increasing importance of cybersecurity in today's digital age. As more and more sensitive information is stored and transmitted online, it is crucial for companies to take proactive measures to protect their customers' data.
In the case of Welltok, the vulnerability in its transfer software was exploited by an unknown actor, resulting in the theft of data. This highlights the need for companies to regularly update and patch their software to prevent such incidents.
The compromised information, while not including Social Security numbers or financial account information, still poses a risk to those affected. Personal details such as names, addresses, and phone numbers can be used for identity theft and other nefarious activities.
United Healthcare's encouragement for members to monitor their accounts is a step in the right direction, but it is not enough. Companies must take responsibility for the security of their customers' data and take proactive steps to prevent such breaches from occurring in the first place.
In conclusion, the Welltok data breach serves as a cautionary tale for both companies and consumers. It is a reminder that cybersecurity must be taken seriously and that companies must be held accountable for the protection of their customers' data.
Las Vegas Rescue Mission Hosts Heartwarming Christmas Meal for the Needy

This gesture of kindness and support is especially valued by those who relish the opportunity to enjoy a warm, cooked meal in a communal setting.
For five decades, the Las Vegas Rescue Mission has been a pillar in the valley, offering assistance and fostering a sense of community. Events like the Christmas meal underscore the mission's enduring commitment to helping those in challenging circumstances, particularly during a time of year when the spirit of giving and togetherness is most poignant.
The Christmas meal event is just one of the many ways the Las Vegas Rescue Mission makes a difference in the lives of those who are struggling. The organization also provides shelter, clothing, and other essential services to people in need. The Las Vegas Rescue Mission relies on the generosity of volunteers and donors to continue its vital work. The organization is always in need of food, clothing, and other items, as well as financial donations to support its programs. Las Vegas Witnesses Record-Breaking Holiday Travel Season
Las Vegas, in tandem with numerous other cities across the U.S., is currently in the midst of its most bustling holiday travel season on record. The surge in travel is evident as people make their way to various destinations, with Harry Reid International Airport being a prime example of the pre-Christmas rush.
The American Automobile Association (AAA) has reported that this Christmas to New Year travel period is shaping up to be the busiest since the organization began tracking data in 2000. An astounding 115 million Americans are expected to journey at least 50 miles from home during this time, with a notable number of them opting to take to the skies. Harry Reid International Airport, which has already had a record-breaking year for travel, is feeling the strain of the increased traffic.
This holiday season is set to surpass the travel records established in 2019, making it the busiest since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, airline ticket prices are slightly lower this year compared to 2022, providing a bit of financial respite for those embarking on journeys.
MGM Resorts Increases Self-Parking Rates on the Strip
MGM Resorts International
MGM Resorts International has recently made a substantial adjustment to their self-parking rates at their nine prominent Strip properties in Las Vegas. As of Friday, the new rates are set at $18 for self-parking from Monday to Thursday and $23 for self-parking from Friday to Sunday. These changes have replaced the previous hourly rates, which were in effect prior to the update. The specific reasons behind this increase have not been disclosed by the company at this time.
It is worth noting that certain groups will still be able to enjoy free parking privileges at MGM Resorts International properties. Nevada residents can take advantage of free self-parking for up to three hours with a valid driver's license. Additionally, members of the upper tiers of MGM's loyalty program, MGM Rewards Mastercard holders, and participants in the MGM Rewards Military & Veterans Program, which includes active U.S. military personnel, veterans, and their spouses, will continue to receive complimentary self-parking.
The decision by MGM Resorts International to implement these changes could potentially impact the parking policies at other Strip properties. Currently, only three major venues on the Strip offer free parking โ Treasure Island, Circus Circus, and Casino Royale. Other well-known properties, such as those owned by Caesars Entertainment Inc., Wynn and Encore, The Venetian and Palazzo, and several others, have their own paid parking rates in place.
MGM Resorts International was the first company to introduce self-parking charges in 2016, setting a precedent for other major players in the Las Vegas casino industry. It remains to be seen how the recent increase in self-parking rates at MGM properties will affect the overall parking landscape on the Strip. As the situation continues to evolve, it is essential for visitors to stay informed about the latest parking policies and rates at their favorite Las Vegas resorts and casinos.
AREA15 Breaks Ground on Exciting 20-Acre Expansion Along I-15
AREA15, the innovative entertainment and art complex in Las Vegas, has embarked on an ambitious expansion project to further enrich its offerings and cater to the evolving interests of both tourists and locals. The groundbreaking for an additional 20 acres along Interstate 15 marks the beginning of this significant development.
Construction teams are currently working on 36-foot walls for the new section, which will be a hub for innovative entertainment experiences. The expansion will feature a year-round horror entertainment experience named "Horror Unleashed," brought by Universal Destinations & Experiences. This addition will offer visitors an immersive and thrilling experience that will cater to horror enthusiasts and thrill-seekers alike.
In addition to "Horror Unleashed," the new phase of AREA15 will also include indoor skydiving, responding to the growing demand for more immersive and experiential activities. This new attraction will provide visitors with the opportunity to experience the thrill of skydiving in a safe and controlled environment, further enhancing the diverse range of experiences available at the complex.
Winston Fisher, CEO of AREA15, emphasized the increasing consumer interest in new forms of entertainment that offer immersive experiences and genuine emotional connections. The expansion is a direct response to this growing demand and is aimed at enriching the AREA15 District and contributing positively to the city of Las Vegas.
The expansion will boast 450,000 square feet of retail and food and beverage space, with multiple building structures ranging from 1,000 to 60,000 square feet available for lease. A unique feature of this expansion is a repurposed Boeing 747 aircraft, which will be used as an event space. This creative and eco-friendly approach to repurposing the aircraft is a testament to AREA15's commitment to innovation and sustainability.
AREA15, which has already attracted over 5 million guests and hosts over 200 live events, is set to further enhance its offerings with this new development. The expansion will provide a platform for even more unique and immersive experiences, cementing AREA15's position as a premier destination for art, entertainment, and experiential activities in Las Vegas.
Vegas Golden Knights Re-sign Defenseman Ben Hutton Through 2025-26
The Vegas Golden Knights have solidified their defensive lineup with the signing of Ben Hutton to a two-year contract extension. General Manager Kelly McCrimmon announced the deal, which carries an average annual value of $975,000 and extends through the 2025-26 season.
Hutton, originally from Brockville, Ontario, has proven to be a valuable asset for the Golden Knights since joining as a free agent in October 2021. In his time with the team, he has participated in 117 regular season games and contributed 29 points, comprising 7 goals and 22 assists. Notably, Hutton has maintained a positive +15 rating. During the current 2023-24 campaign, he has appeared in 28 games, scoring eight points, and holds a commendable +7 rating.
His NHL career, spanning 496 games, includes stints with several other teams, namely the Toronto Maple Leafs, Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Kings, and Vancouver Canucks. Hutton's journey with the Golden Knights reached a pinnacle with his postseason debut against the Winnipeg Jets, where he secured his first Stanley Cup victory.
Before his NHL career, Hutton played collegiately at the University of Maine and earned recognition on the All-Hockey East First Team following the 2013-14 season. His international achievements include helping Canada clinch a gold medal at the 2016 IIHF World Championship.
Hutton, a fifth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by Vancouver, continues to demonstrate his value on the ice, contributing significantly to the Golden Knights' defensive lineup.
The Golden Knights' decision to extend Hutton's contract is a testament to the organization's confidence in his abilities and the role he plays within the team. The versatile defenseman has shown that he can adapt to different playing styles and contribute to the team's success.
In addition to his on-ice performance, Hutton is known for his strong work ethic and positive attitude, making him a valuable member of the Golden Knights' locker room. His commitment to the team and the community has endeared him to fans and teammates alike.
As the Golden Knights look to build upon their recent success, the signing of Ben Hutton to a two-year contract extension provides the team with stability and depth on the blue line. With the support of his teammates and the organization, there is no doubt that Hutton will continue to be a key contributor to the team's success in the coming seasons.
