Clark County Cracks Down on Stopping on Strip Pedestrian Bridges
Clark County commissioners have unanimously passed a new ordinance aimed at maintaining pedestrian flow on the bridges of the Las Vegas Strip. The ordinance establishes designated "pedestrian flow zones" on pedestrian bridges and the 20 feet surrounding elevators and escalators. Within these zones, it is now unlawful to stop, stand, or engage in any activity that causes others to do the same, except for those waiting for elevators.
Violators of this ordinance risk being charged with a misdemeanor, facing penalties of up to six months in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both. The ordinance has been implemented to address public safety concerns. The pedestrian bridges, designed for crossing, often experience congestion. Clark County Undersheriff Andrew Walsh supported the ordinance, highlighting the bridges' potential as public safety hazards due to their tendency to create congestion and their concealed locations.
The new ordinance comes as a response to the growing concerns over pedestrian safety and congestion on the Las Vegas Strip. In recent years, the Strip has seen an increase in both foot traffic and vehicular traffic, leading to a higher risk of accidents and injuries. The pedestrian bridges were initially built to provide a safe way for pedestrians to cross the busy streets, but over time, they have become congested with tourists and locals alike, leading to potential safety hazards.
The "pedestrian flow zones" established by the new ordinance aim to address these concerns by keeping the bridges clear of obstructions and maintaining a steady flow of pedestrian traffic. The ordinance is not intended to discourage tourists and locals from enjoying the sights and sounds of the Las Vegas Strip, but rather to ensure that everyone can do so in a safe and orderly manner.
The Clark County Undersheriff, Andrew Walsh, has been a vocal proponent of the new ordinance, citing the potential dangers of crowded pedestrian bridges. He has noted that the bridges, often situated in concealed locations, can become dangerous bottlenecks, putting pedestrians at risk of injury or worse. By keeping the bridges clear and maintaining a steady flow of pedestrian traffic, the new ordinance aims to mitigate these risks and improve public safety on the Las Vegas Strip.
As the new ordinance takes effect, tourists and locals alike are encouraged to be mindful of their surroundings and follow the guidelines established by the "pedestrian flow zones." By doing so, they can help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone on the Las Vegas Strip.
New IRS Rules Limit Electric Vehicle Tax Credit Eligibility
The IRS has recently revised its rules regarding tax credits for electric vehicles (EVs). As a result of these changes, the number of vehicles eligible for federal tax credits has decreased, and even fewer qualify for the full $7,500 credit. However, a variety of electric and plug-in hybrid models are still eligible to receive at least a part of this credit.
One of the most significant changes for consumers is the ability to apply the tax credit directly to the purchase price of the vehicle at the time of buying, instead of waiting to claim it during tax filing. This new provision allows buyers to enjoy the benefit of the tax credit immediately, making it more accessible and convenient for consumers.
To check the eligibility of specific vehicles for a tax credit, the IRS has provided a dedicated website where consumers can input the make, model, and VIN of the car to determine its qualification for the credit. This tool is designed to help consumers make informed decisions when shopping for an electric vehicle and to ensure they can take full advantage of the available tax credits.
It's worth noting that the tax credit is nonrefundable, meaning that taxpayers can't get back more on the credit than what they owe in taxes. Additionally, the taxpayer cannot apply any excess credit to future tax years. This highlights the importance of understanding the limitations and conditions of the tax credit to maximize its benefits.
The recent changes to the tax credit rules have sparked debates about their potential impact on the EV market. Some argue that the reduced number of eligible vehicles could hinder EV adoption, while others believe that the new rules will encourage manufacturers to produce more affordable and efficient electric vehicles.
In any case, it's essential for consumers to stay informed about the latest updates and changes to the tax credit rules to make the most of the available incentives. Staying up to date on the latest developments in the EV market can help buyers make the best decision when purchasing an electric vehicle and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Las Vegas Hosts CES 2024: A Fusion of Tech, Healthcare, and Retail
CES, the internationally acclaimed technology event, is set to kick off in the vibrant city of Las Vegas, with an anticipated attendance of 130,000 individuals. This year's show boasts an impressive representation of over 150 countries, showcasing exhibits in a diverse range of 41 technology categories across multiple venues such as the Las Vegas Convention Center and the Venetian Expo Center. Despite its growth, attendance is projected to be lower than pre-pandemic levels.
Having been a prominent fixture in Las Vegas since 1979, CES has experienced fluctuating attendance, with its peak in 2019 when it welcomed a staggering 182,000 visitors. The 2024 event promises to be an exceptional one with a record-breaking number of keynote presentations, delving into captivating topics such as AI management and its impact on the job market.
Healthcare and beauty tech will take center stage at the event, with thought-provoking keynotes from industry leaders. Walmart's CEO will also be sharing insights on the future of retail technology. However, the new Sphere venue will not be part of CES due to cost constraints.
As part of Las Vegas's bustling convention season, CES paves the way for other notable events such as the World of Concrete and the Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade Show. The city is also gearing up for the excitement of Super Bowl 58 in February. Despite the buzz, CES attendees are facing steep hotel room rates, with some exceeding $900 per night, continuing the trend of high-priced accommodations in the city. For more information, go here.
Raiders' Coaching Search Heats Up with Potential Harbaugh Reunion
Jim Harbaugh, the current head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, is on the brink of joining the Las Vegas Raiders. While there have been previous opportunities for Harbaugh to coach the Raiders, the timing was never quite right. However, that may be about to change.
Harbaugh's recent decision to hire NFL agent Don Yee, who also represents Tom Brady, is a clear sign of his interest in returning to the NFL and potentially joining the Raiders. This move has sparked a great deal of speculation and excitement among fans and analysts alike.
Tom Brady, who recently became a minority owner of the Las Vegas Aces, has been growing his business partnership with Raiders owner Mark Davis. This connection has led many to believe that Brady could play a significant role in influencing the Raiders' coaching search.
The connection between Brady, Harbaugh, and Yee, all of whom have ties to Michigan, only adds fuel to the fire of speculation. The trio's shared history has led many to believe that a reunion in Las Vegas is not only possible but likely.
As the Raiders wrap up their season, they have been under the interim leadership of Antonio Pierce, who took over from Josh McDaniels. While Pierce has managed to lead the team to a 4-4 record, the Raiders must conduct an extensive coaching search that includes interviewing at least two minority candidates.
Mark Davis has expressed his openness to the coaching search process but has also acknowledged Harbaugh's potential impact on the team. The link between Harbaugh and the Raiders goes back to his early coaching days, and his close relationship with the late Al Davis, Mark's father, only strengthens the connection.
Harbaugh's impressive coaching career, which includes successful stints at Stanford, the San Francisco 49ers, and Michigan, makes him an attractive candidate for the Raiders. With his wife hailing from Las Vegas and his history with the Raiders, it's no wonder that many are speculating that Harbaugh will soon be leading the team.
The potential move to the Raiders has been gaining momentum, and it seems that all signs are pointing to Harbaugh taking the helm. As the season comes to a close and the coaching search heats up, it's an exciting time for both the Raiders and their fans. Only time will tell if Harbaugh will indeed be the next head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, but one thing is for sure: the anticipation is palpable.
Half-Million Dollar Bail for Suspect in MGM Signature Shooting
In Las Vegas, a judge has ordered a $500,000 bail for Jon Roger Letzkus, the man accused of firing multiple shots inside the MGM Signature on New Yearโs Eve. Letzkus, 45, faces 71 felony counts of discharging a firearm within a structure, two counts of felony destruction of property, and one count of possessing a firearm as a prohibited person.
During the court hearing, prosecutors highlighted Letzkus as a danger to the community and requested a $1.27 million bail. However, the defense, pointing to Letzkus' lack of criminal history, sought a reduction to $5,000, along with monitored release. The judge, citing concerns over Letzkus being unpredictable and unstable, rejected the defense's request and set bail at half a million dollars.
The judge also prevented Letzkus from addressing the court and scheduled his next court appearance for January 17.
Letzkus's alleged actions on New Year's Eve have caused quite a stir in the Las Vegas community, with many questioning how he was able to access a firearm despite being a prohibited person. The incident has also raised concerns about the safety and security of the MGM Signature and other high-rise buildings in the area.
In response to the incident, MGM Resorts International released a statement saying, "The safety and security of our guests and employees is our top priority. We are cooperating fully with law enforcement and are conducting our own internal review to ensure that all protocols were followed and to identify any potential improvements that can be made to prevent similar incidents in the future."
As Letzkus awaits his next court appearance, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible gun ownership and the need for continued efforts to prevent firearms from falling into the wrong hands.
