👮♂️🏫 Clark County School District Mourns the Loss of Officer Andrew Craft
The Clark County School District (CCSD) is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of one of its dedicated police officers, Officer Andrew Craft. On January 10, 2024, the CCSD community was shocked to learn of the tragic loss of Officer Craft while he was on duty, due to an apparent medical episode.
The heartbreaking news was shared by the Clark County School District Police Department (CCSDPD) on Facebook, where they paid tribute to their fallen colleague, stating, "Gone but never forgotten." The CCSDPD's heartfelt message highlighted the profound impact Officer Craft had on the students, schools, and the community he served.
Superintendent Jesus Jara, in a statement, expressed his deep sorrow and condolences to Officer Craft's family and the entire CCSD community. He acknowledged the tremendous loss and the significant impact that Officer Craft had on the students and staff during his time as a CCSDPD officer.
"With a heavy heart, I announce the passing of a Clark County School District Police Department officer," said Dr. Jara. "This officer's impact on our students, schools, and community is remembered fondly. Their time with us as a CCSDPD officer will not be soon forgotten."
A procession was held in honor of Officer Craft, with police officers lining up outside the University Medical Center (UMC) before accompanying him to the coroner's office. The CCSD community and its members have come together to honor the memory of Officer Craft and to support one another during this difficult time.
🎾 Indoor Pickleball Venues Set to Expand in Clark County with Picklr
Utah-based Picklr, known for its top-notch indoor pickleball courts, is set to make a splash in Southern Nevada as part of a major national expansion. The company has ambitious plans to open seven locations in Nevada, with five of them nestled in the bustling Clark County. The first facility is scheduled to open its doors in Henderson this July, just in time to beat the summer heat.
Each Picklr location will boast a minimum of 10 pickleball courts, a pro shop, lockers, and a communal space for players to mingle and share their love for the sport. The driving force behind this expansion is Chris Wood, who, along with his partner Shawn Hassett, decided to make the leap from property management to Picklr franchise ownership. Wood recognized the need for more indoor pickleball courts in the Las Vegas area, which has seen a surge in demand for the sport.
With a keen focus on accessibility and proximity to the 215 Beltway, these new Picklr facilities aim to address the current shortage of indoor courts in the region. The goal is to provide a welcoming and inclusive space for community events, clubs, and tournaments. This expansion is just the beginning of Picklr's ambitious plans, as the company intends to establish 154 new locations across 23 states, adding a whopping 1,800 pickleball courts to the nation's roster.
As the sport of pickleball continues to gain popularity, Picklr's expansion in Southern Nevada and beyond is a testament to the growing interest and demand for indoor facilities. With its commitment to providing top-notch courts and fostering a sense of community, Picklr is poised to become the go-to destination for pickleball enthusiasts in the region.

🙋♂️🙋♀️ Primary and Caucus: Nevada GOP's Double Electoral Challenge
Nevada Republicans are preparing for two presidential contests in February: a primary on the 6th and a caucus on the 8th, leading to confusion among voters. The primary, managed by the Secretary of State’s Office, operates like a general election, while caucuses are party-run meetings deciding candidates through discussions and votes. In the upcoming primary, candidates had to choose between the primary and the caucus, with some top-tier candidates like Donald Trump opting for the caucus.
This dual system is a result of a 2021 law signed by former Governor Steve Sisolak, making Nevada the first state to vote in the 2024 presidential primaries, a move opposed by Republicans. The state party plans to continue using the caucus system to select its presidential candidate, even as the state conducts the primary. Voting in the primary is primarily in-person, with absentee ballots limited to active duty military and their families, and ID is required for registration at the polls.

🏒 Golden Knights Fall to Avalanche in 3-0 Shutout
On a recent Wednesday night, the Vegas Golden Knights experienced a 3-0 defeat during an away game against the formidable Colorado Avalanche. This match marked the return of the Golden Knights' goaltender, Adin Hill, who stepped in for Logan Thompson, currently sidelined due to illness. Despite a valiant effort, the Golden Knights were unable to secure a win, following their previous victory. The Avalanche showcased their offensive prowess by consistently finding the back of the net throughout the game. Valeri Nichushkin proved to be a standout player, scoring a goal in both the first and second periods. The final goal of the night was netted by Logan O'Connor, with a crucial assist from Caleb Jones, in the third period.
The Golden Knights will have an opportunity to bounce back in their upcoming home game against the Boston Bruins on Thursday at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcasted on Vegas 34, providing fans with a chance to cheer on their team and witness a potential comeback. The Golden Knights' determination and resilience will undoubtedly be on full display as they look to even the score and return to their winning ways.
