๐ Downtown Summerlin to Celebrate Lunar New Year with Spectacular Parade and Cultural Festivities
Downtown Summerlin is set to mark the Year of the Dragon with its much-anticipated seventh annual Lunar New Year parade. This vibrant and cultural event is scheduled for February 9, starting at 6 p.m., and is open to everyone with free admission. The parade will take place along Park Centre Drive, bringing a festive atmosphere to the heart of Downtown Summerlin.
Attendees can look forward to a variety of traditional performances and attractions. Key highlights include the dragon and lion dances performed by The Lohan School of Shaolin, which promise to be a visual spectacle. Adding to the celebration, stilt walkers and other entertainments will also be part of the parade, as announced by Downtown Summerlin.
In addition to the parade, visitors can immerse themselves in Lunar New Year-themed decorations throughout Downtown Summerlin until February 23. Notable attractions include a large Chinese dragon statue located at Dining Arroyo and a themed photo wall near the H&M store.
For guests aged 21 and over, there's an added treatโa complimentary beer tasting experience. This will be held in the Dining Arroyo area from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on the day of the parade, offering a unique way to enjoy the festivities.
โ Super Bowl 58 Sparks High Private Jet Traffic at Southern Nevada Airports
Southern Nevada airports are bracing for an influx of private jets as they prepare for Super Bowl 58, drawing on their recent Formula One event experience. Over 1,000 private aircraft arrivals and departures are expected around the Super Bowl, set to be held at Allegiant Stadium, located near Harry Reid International Airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued special air traffic procedures and flight restrictions for the period from February 7 to 12, surrounding the game on February 11. Reid Airport officials anticipate similar traffic levels to the Formula One event, where approximately 1,000 aircraft movements were recorded at Henderson and North Las Vegas airports.
The FAA and Super Bowl executives are jointly managing landing and take-off slots, ensuring smooth operations for the influx of private planes. Clark County's airports, including Reid International, Henderson Executive, and North Las Vegas Airport, are prepared for the surge. They are offering lower fuel costs at Henderson and North Las Vegas to encourage pilots to use these facilities. Boulder City Airport is also listed as an option for parking or passenger drop-offs.
The FAA plans to issue more detailed procedures and route requirements later in January, with regular updates on their Super Bowl website. Fixed-base operators at all four airports are taking reservations for aircraft parking.
In anticipation of the high traffic volume, the Department of Aviation will implement special events landing fees, categorized into three groups based on aircraft size. The fees range from $700 for Group 1 aircraft to $3,000 for Group 3.
Safety measures are also a priority, with the FAA releasing videos showcasing runway approaches and taxiway footage for Henderson and North Las Vegas airports. A temporary flight restriction will be in place on game day from 2:30-8:30 p.m., centered over Allegiant Stadium, affecting a 10-mile inner core and a 30-mile outer ring. However, commercial flights at Reid Airport will not be impacted.
Super Bowl 58 is classified as a "National Security Special Event," leading to a "no-drone zone" and additional restrictions on unmanned aircraft. Pilots violating FAA restrictions face potential interception, detention, and both criminal and civil penalties.
๐โโ๏ธ Caucus Location Approvals Pending in Clark County, GOP Assures Readiness
The Clark County School District is still in the process of approving location use requests from the local Republican Party for their February 8th caucus. Despite this, GOP leaders remain confident.
The Clark County Republican Party has identified 50 caucus sites within the county, 37 of which are schools, intended for use during the Republican presidential caucus. As of Thursday afternoon, the school district had not approved any of these requests, with some even being declined. However, GOP leaders are optimistic, attributing the delay to a paperwork issue.
Jesse Law, the Chairman of the Clark County Republican Party, stated that the delay was due to the party's insurance certificates, which were submitted to the district on Thursday morning. He assured that all sites listed on the Nevada Republican Partyโs website have been confirmed and paid for.
Michael McDonald, Nevada Republican Party Chairman, also expressed confidence, noting that some school locations were unavailable due to other events but emphasized the district's cooperation overall.
The district, however, has not confirmed receipt of the insurance certificates to the media. According to district policy, non-school groups requesting facility use must apply 30 days prior to the event, provide an insurance certificate, and be aware of potential cancellations for school activities.
In addition to schools, the GOP has secured private businesses and churches as alternative caucus locations. The party leadership, including a close ally of former President Donald Trump, is focused on providing a positive voting experience, maintaining caucus traditions, and implementing security measures like voter ID and paper ballots.
๐ Knights Suffer Seventh Straight Road Loss in Chaotic Overtime Defeat to Devils
Despite a tumultuous performance marked by defensive errors and uneven goaltending, the Knights managed to secure a point in their 6-5 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center in Newark. Coach Bruce Cassidy expressed his disappointment with the team's performance, likening it to a "beer league game."
The Knights' left wing Tyler Toffoli notably scored the winning goal in overtime, sealing the Devils' comeback from a 5-3 deficit. This followed a mistaken clearing attempt by Knights center Brett Howden. Cassidy criticized the team's overtime performance, highlighting a lack of execution and effort in defense.
This loss extends the Knights' series of consecutive road defeats to seven, equaling the franchise record. Despite this, the team showed resilience at points during the game, overturning a 3-1 deficit with a rapid succession of four goals, including two from right wing Jonathan Marchessault. Center Nicolas Roy contributed with a goal and two assists.
However, the Devils, led by Toffoli with two critical goals, quickly overcame the Knights' lead. With the score tied in the third period, Toffoli ultimately scored the decisive goal in overtime. The Knights' defensive unit, particularly experienced players, were criticized by Cassidy for their subpar performance.
Looking ahead, the Knights face a quick turnaround with an upcoming road game against the New York Islanders, now led by new coach Patrick Roy. Meanwhile, Knights' goaltender Adin Hill is expected to return after a prolonged absence due to injury, providing a potential boost for the team. Despite the setback, the Knights have maintained a strong record when leading into the third period, standing at 18-1-2.
