๐ฎโโ๏ธ LVMPD Officers Lauded for Heroic Measures in UNLV Campus Emergency
Two officers, Jacob Noriega and Ty Vesperas, were commended on Thursday for their heroic actions during a fatal shooting at the University of Las Vegas, Nevada (UNLV) on December 6. The incident claimed the lives of three professors, Dr. Jerry Cha-Jan Chang, Dr. Patricia Navarro Velez, and Dr. Naoko Takemaru, and left a fourth professor injured.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) South Central Area Command officers located the injured victim emerging from Beam Hall. They implemented "stop the bleed" training techniques, a critical part of LVMPD's emergency response training. The officers used their first aid kits to apply a tourniquet to the victim and swiftly transported him to safety. Officer Jacob Noriega was noted for his efforts in controlling the bleeding by applying continuous pressure while Officer Ty Vesperas drove to a secure location for paramedics to take over.
Reggie Rader, Deputy Chief for LVMPD, highlighted the importance of immediate action in such situations and praised the officers' quick shift from addressing the threat to providing first aid. Officer Vesperas expressed gratitude for the department's extensive training and acknowledged the swift response of his colleagues at South Central Area Command.
๐ฎ Robertoโs Taco Shopโs Anniversary Bash: 60 Days of Surprises and Specials
Robertoโs Taco Shop, a beloved fixture for UNLV students and Las Vegas residents, is marking its 60th anniversary with 60 days of exciting giveaways that started in December and continue through February. The celebration includes:
Giveaways: iPads, Apple Watches, and swag bags filled with branded merchandise are up for grabs during remote radio broadcasts at various stores across the valley.
Specials: Food and drink deals from Monday to Thursday, featuring $6.60 carne asada fries on Mondays and $1.59 chicken tacos on Wednesdays.
Founded in 1964 in California by Roberto and Dolores Robledo, the taco shop has grown into a Vegas icon. The first local store near UNLV paved the way for expansion, and now Robertoโs boasts over 80 locations across Nevada, California, and Texas, with nearly 60 in Nevada, all franchise-owned.
Reynaldo Robledo, the founders' son and current CEO, emphasizes the brand's impact on the Latino community in Las Vegas. He sees his father's legacy in providing a tangible path for Latino generations to achieve their American Dream. For details on the giveaway schedule, visit robertostacoshop.com/60-days-of-giveaways.
๐ฐ Station Casinos' Summer Internship: A Unique Vegas Experience for Students

๐ Vegas Golden Knights Rebound with Disciplined Win Against the Islanders
The Vegas Golden Knights achieved a crucial 3-2 road victory against the New York Islanders, breaking their seven-game losing streak away from T-Mobile Arena. This win was notable not just for goaltender Adin Hill's return but also for the team's improved play. The Knights demonstrated better puck management, discipline, and defensive strategy, keeping most shots to the perimeter and maintaining a clear net front.
The Knights (28-14-6) aim to continue this successful approach in their final two games before the All-Star break, facing the New York Rangers and the Detroit Red Wings. The victory over the Islanders was especially significant, as right wing Jonathan Marchessault highlighted the team's previous dissatisfaction with their road performance.
There's optimism for a potential winning streak on the road, with the next game not until February 6, giving injured players a chance to recover. One such player, right wing Michael Amadio, may return as early as the next game. Hill's comeback was a major boost; he led in goaltender stats and made 41 saves against the Islanders.
The Knights hope to replicate their disciplined play in upcoming games, especially with key offensive players injured. After a disappointing loss to the New Jersey Devils, coach Cassidy emphasized the need for smarter, cleaner hockey, a message that seemed to resonate with the team in their win against the Islanders.
