๐โโ๏ธ Nevada Republican Caucus to Determine 2024 Presidential Delegate Allocation
The Nevada Republican Party has decided to conduct its own private caucus on February 8th to determine its delegates for the 2024 presidential nomination, diverging from the state-run primary. The caucus will feature former President Donald Trump and businessman Ryan Binkley, while other potential candidates like Nikki Haley won't be considered due to party rules.
In contrast, the state-run primary, starting with early voting on January 27, includes former South Carolina Governor and U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley. The Republican caucus, however, excludes Haley and others who have suspended campaigns, such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. It's the caucus, not the primary, that will be used for allocating delegates for the GOP's national convention.
There are concerns about election security and the democratic process surrounding the caucus system. The Nevada GOP emphasizes the security of their in-person caucus, requiring government-issued ID, while state primaries do not mandate voter ID. Voting rights experts argue that voter fraud is rare and that voter ID laws could suppress voter turnout, particularly among certain groups.
Nevadaโs Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar highlights the efficacy and security of mail ballots, suggesting that voter ID might be a distraction from more effective measures. It is uncertain how the legal status of fraudulent voting in a private event like the GOP caucus would be handled, as voter fraud is a felony in state-run elections.
๐ฎ Robertoโs Taco Shopโs Anniversary Bash: 60 Days of Surprises and Specials
Robertoโs Taco Shop, a beloved fixture for UNLV students and Las Vegas residents, is marking its 60th anniversary with 60 days of exciting giveaways that started in December and continue through February. The celebration includes:
Giveaways: iPads, Apple Watches, and swag bags filled with branded merchandise are up for grabs during remote radio broadcasts at various stores across the valley.
Specials: Food and drink deals from Monday to Thursday, featuring $6.60 carne asada fries on Mondays and $1.59 chicken tacos on Wednesdays.
Founded in 1964 in California by Roberto and Dolores Robledo, the taco shop has grown into a Vegas icon. The first local store near UNLV paved the way for expansion, and now Robertoโs boasts over 80 locations across Nevada, California, and Texas, with nearly 60 in Nevada, all franchise-owned.
Reynaldo Robledo, the founders' son and current CEO, emphasizes the brand's impact on the Latino community in Las Vegas. He sees his father's legacy in providing a tangible path for Latino generations to achieve their American Dream. For details on the giveaway schedule, visit robertostacoshop.com/60-days-of-giveaways.
โ Las Vegas to Host Dueling Events: Trump Rally and Harris Speeches
Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris will both be in Las Vegas on January 27th, but for different campaign-related events.
Trump is scheduled to speak at the "Team Trump Nevada Commit to Caucus Rally" at Big League Dreams Las Vegas, starting at 1 pm on January 27th. Doors for the event will open at 9 am, and attendees can register for tickets online. This rally is a pivotal moment for Trump, who remains the sole major candidate in the Republican caucus after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended his campaign.
Vice President Harris, along with Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, will participate in two events in Las Vegas. One of the events is in support of Representative Steven Horsford's reelection bid for Nevadaโs 4th Congressional District. Details about her itinerary, including the time and location of her speeches, have not been released by the White House.
In addition to these events, there are several other political leaders visiting Las Vegas on the same day. Culinary Union is working hard to win historic contracts and will be holding a picket in Downtown Las Vegas. California Governor Gavin Newsom will be at Donna's Little Garage in East Las Vegas to support Joe Biden.
As the political events in Las Vegas unfold, the presence of these influential figures highlights the importance of the upcoming election and the impact it will have on the future of the United States.
๐ Hat Trick Hero: Marchessault Leads Golden Knights Past Rangers 5-2.
Despite several key players being on the injured list, the Golden Knights managed to secure a 5-2 victory against the New York Rangers on January 26th, 2024. This triumph can largely be attributed to Jonathan Marchessault's exceptional performance. The Conn Smythe Trophy winner has been in remarkable form recently, contributing significantly to the team's success. His recent hat trick against the Rangers highlights his impressive play during a period where the team has struggled with injuries to top scorers.
Key moments from the game included Marchessault's hat trick, which featured two timely strikes and an empty-netter. Another important moment was Keegan Kolesar's goal, which came after a breakaway and gave the Knights a lead they maintained throughout the game. Goalie Adin Hill also played a crucial role, making 37 saves to keep the Rangers at bay.
The team continues to face challenges due to injuries to key players like Jack Eichel and William Karlsson, which has affected their offensive capabilities. Additionally, the Knights' power play has been less effective recently, as seen in the game against the Rangers. However, the team looks forward to their next game against the Detroit Red Wings, with a player returning from injury.
Marchessault's performance, along with the chemistry he shares with teammates Nic Roy and Ivan Barbashev, has been a bright spot for the team. Both Roy and Barbashev have also contributed significantly in recent games.
