๐Ÿซ Major Rezoning to Impact Middle and High Schools in Clark County

The Clark County School Board has approved changes to attendance boundaries affecting nearly a dozen schools in North Las Vegas and Henderson for the next school year. This decision, reached during a 40-minute meeting with the Attendance Zone Advisory Commission, is part of an annual adjustment process responding to enrollment figures and other factors, aiming to optimize seat capacity across schools. The changes primarily impact middle schools, with eight of the nine adjustments occurring in Henderson and North Las Vegas, following community input gathered in January. Although the specific number of children affected by the rezoning has not been disclosed, the schools involved include Basic Academy of International Studies, Chaparral High School, and several middle schools such as Burkholder and Johnston, which are transitioning to new magnet programs in environmental science and STEM, funded by a $15 million federal grant.

High school students at Basic Academy of International Studies will see zoning changes directing some to Chaparral High School to alleviate enrollment pressures exacerbated by growth in the Cadence and Lake Las Vegas areas. While current students can remain at their schools, the rezoning will apply to incoming sixth graders and newly enrolled middle schoolers, as well as incoming ninth graders and new high school students. Families seeking to enroll their children outside their assigned zones can apply for a change of school assignment, subject to space availability.

๐ŸŽฐ Straight Flush Earns Visitor $104,000 Progressive Jackpot at the Rio

A fortunate visitor from Maryland hit a $104,000 progressive jackpot while playing Ultimate Texas Holdโ€™em at the Rio casino in Las Vegas. The winning hand was a straight flush, achieved with a jack and queen of hearts, complemented by an eight, nine, and ten of hearts from the community cards. This jackpot win occurred on February 13, and the lucky player opted for anonymity.

Additionally, casinos across the Las Vegas Valley have reported various winners. Highlights include a significant Red Hot Triple 7s jackpot at Binion's, a $50,000 keno victory at the California, and a noteworthy Triple Double Bonus jackpot at Gold Coast. Other casinos like The Orleans, Oyo Las Vegas, and Samโ€™s Town also celebrated winners, showcasing the broad range of winning opportunities in Las Vegas, from slot machines to table games and keno.

๐Ÿ’ Vegas Knights Shine in Toronto, Snapping Losing Streak with a 6-2 Win

The Vegas Golden Knights secured a decisive 6-2 victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena, marking a significant turnaround from their previous encounter, where they experienced one of their worst defensive games of the season. Goaltender Adin Hill, who faced challenges in the earlier game against the Maple Leafs, demonstrated resilience by stopping 30 shots. The win, which ended a three-game losing streak for the Knights, was attributed to a collective team effort and a strategic focus on defense and puck management, especially in the absence of several key offensive players.

Ivan Barbashev and Mason Morelli played pivotal roles in establishing the lead for the Knights, while Jonathan Marchessault and Nicolas Roy widened the gap with additional goals. Shea Theodore's impressive performance, with three assists, and Marchessault's career-high 32 goals highlighted individual contributions. The game also showcased the potential of the fourth line, assembled from the American Hockey League affiliate, which brought energy and discipline to the team's play.

Coach Bruce Cassidy emphasized the importance of a reliable fourth line and noted the progress of star center Jack Eichel towards recovery from injury. Cassidy's visit to the Hockey Hall of Fame provided a motivational boost, reinforcing the team's capabilities and setting a positive trajectory for future games.

โŽ Michigan Primary Results Highlight Challenges for Biden and Trump Ahead of Election

In the Michigan primaries, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump emerged victorious, setting the stage for a likely rematch in the upcoming general election. However, early results revealed challenges for both candidates. A significant "uncommitted" vote campaign, driven by dissatisfaction with Biden's approach to the Gaza conflict, exceeded the margin by which Trump won Michigan in 2016. Trump, despite his early primary victories, showed weaknesses among suburban and college-educated voters, as well as within his own party due to legal controversies.

The "uncommitted" campaign, particularly strong in Michigan's large Arab American community, expressed frustration with Biden's handling of the Israel-Hamas war. Trump's primary success has been notable, but Nikki Haley's performance in areas with higher education levels suggests vulnerabilities. Biden's potential difficulty with Democratic base segments and Trump's challenges with specific voter groups underscore the complexities of the upcoming election.

Both campaigns have focused efforts in Michigan, reflecting its critical electoral importance. Trump's continued dominance in Republican primaries contrasts with intra-party criticisms and legal challenges. Meanwhile, Biden's campaign has emphasized fundraising and engagement, despite internal dissent over foreign policy.

๐Ÿ’ฒ Las Vegas Convention Center to Host Major Spring Job Fair Event

Southern Nevada job seekers have the opportunity to meet with over 120 employers at the upcoming Spring Job Fair, scheduled for March 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Las Vegas Convention Center West Hall. Hosted by Clark County in collaboration with the EmployNV Business Hub, this annual event aims to facilitate on-the-spot hiring and job offers pending background checks. Commissioner Jim Gibson encourages attendees to approach the fair as they would a multi-employer interview, emphasizing that every employer present is looking to hire. Notable employers include the Rio hotel-casino, Nevada Barricade and Sign Co., Maverik, The Smith Center, Tao Group Hospitality, Fontainebleau hotel-casino, and Link Technologies. Job seekers can register in advance, upload their resumes for employer previews, and access several on-site resources such as free child care for specific ages, career coaching, and career exploration tools.
