๐Ÿš€ SpaceX's Falcon 9 Lights Up the Night Sky with Starlink Satellite Launch

The mysterious light phenomenon was SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket deploying Starlink satellites, marking its 10th launch this year.

If you were puzzled by an unusual beam of light illuminating the night sky, there's a logical explanation: SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket was behind the spectacle. On Monday at 7:30 p.m., the rocket successfully launched Starlink satellites into orbit from Vandenberg Space Force Base, situated north of Los Angeles. This event marks the Falcon 9's 10th mission this year, as shared by SpaceX on the social media platform X.

The Falcon 9 has the distinction of being the first rocket designed for reflight, showcasing SpaceX's commitment to innovation and sustainability in space exploration. The launched Starlink satellites are part of a broader effort to provide broadband internet globally, utilizing a constellation of satellites orbiting the Earth to deliver reliable service.

A Look Back at Past Rocket Events:

  • September 2023: The "Victus Nox" space mission's launch from the California coast was visible from Las Vegas, adding a spectacular sight to the night sky.

  • October 2022: Another Falcon 9 mission deployed 53 Starlink satellites from Vandenberg, with its journey visible over the valley.

  • May 2021: A chain of Starlink satellites in low Earth orbit presented an awe-inspiring view over Las Vegas.

  • October 2018: A Falcon 9 rocket made its presence known across parts of the Southwest, further highlighting SpaceX's impactful contributions to space exploration.

๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿ€ UNLV Faces Creighton in High-Stakes NCAA Tournament Opener

The UNLV Lady Rebels, carrying a remarkable season record of 30-2, are set to challenge the Creighton Bluejays, who stand at 25-5, in the NCAA Tournament's first round. This eagerly anticipated match is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles.

Under the guidance of Coach Lindy La Rocque, the Lady Rebels have established themselves as a dominant force in the Mountain West, clinching both the regular season and tournament titles for three straight years. As they prepare for their tournament run, the team aims to capture its first NCAA Tournament victory since 1991, driven by a blend of experienced talent and youthful determination.

Junior forward Alyssa Brown expressed the team's intensified focus, stating, "Our drive this year has been stronger the past couple of years. We're ready to go." With key players like Kiara Jackson, Alyssa Durazo-Frescas, Alyssa Brown, and Desi-Rae Young returning, UNLV brings valuable experience from previous tournaments into this year's competition.

La Rocque emphasized the significance of their tournament berth, reminding her team of the privilege of continuing to play when many others do not. "This is special, and it shouldn't get old and routine," La Rocque said, highlighting the balance between confidence and the drive to prove their worth further.

Facing a formidable Creighton team that finished second in the Big East and reached the Elite Eight in 2022, UNLV is aware of the challenge ahead. The Bluejays' experience and cohesion, led by Coach Jim Flanery, present a significant hurdle. However, UNLV's stalwart defense, which has been pivotal in their current 15-game winning streak, is expected to be a key factor in their pursuit of advancement.

As the Lady Rebels gear up for what could be a landmark victory, the entire team remains focused and motivated, ready to make their mark in the NCAA Tournament.

๐Ÿข Diamond Inn Motel's Iconic Site Remains Unsold After Auction

The Diamond Inn Motel, a notable landmark on the Las Vegas Strip known for its distinctive pink elephant, has yet to find a buyer after a recent auction did not meet the expected starting price. The 1.36-acre property was put up for auction on March 7, with bidding closing at noon on Thursday. Despite hopes for a successful sale, the auction failed to attract a bid that reached the $12.5 million starting price, according to a spokesperson from the J.P. King Auction Company.

The auction, while not resulting in a sale, was deemed productive by J.P. King. The spokesperson highlighted, โ€œWe do feel the auction has identified several serious and interested buyers across the globe, and many are continuing to do their due diligence.โ€ With newfound interest, the property is now listed for sale at $25 million, a price point that underscores the site's potential for redevelopment.

Positioned on the south side of the Strip and opposite Mandalay Bay, the Diamond Inn Motel offers a prime location for potential investors. The property boasts 237 feet of frontage on Las Vegas Boulevard and is zoned for hotel and casino use, presenting an opportunity for the development of high-rise condos or an entertainment venue. The allowed building heights, ranging from 406 to 505 feet, further enhance the property's appeal as a significant development project.

This price adjustment sets the Diamond Inn Motel's land above the cost of a neighboring 2.2-acre property, which was sold for $12.8 million in 2022. The adjacent land is earmarked for the Boring Companyโ€™s Vegas loop expansion, indicating a growing interest in the area's development prospects.

๐Ÿบ๐Ÿš˜ Impaired Driving Incident in North Las Vegas Injures Four Pedestrians

In North Las Vegas, a distressing event unfolded late Monday night when a vehicle, driven by an impaired driver, collided with pedestrians, resulting in injuries. The incident occurred at approximately 9:02 p.m. near Lake Mead Boulevard and Englestad Street, where a large crowd had gathered outside a business. As the assembly expanded, individuals ventured onto the street, leading to the unfortunate collision.

A 2019 silver Nissan Versa, navigating westward on Lake Mead Boulevard, struck four pedestrians amid the crowd. Emergency services swiftly responded, transporting the injured to University Medical Center, fortunately with injuries deemed non-life-threatening.

The driver, an adult female, displayed signs of impairment at the scene and was subsequently arrested. Facing charges of DUI and child endangerment, she was booked into the North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center. The vehicle's other occupants, a 17-year-old and a 6-year-old, were reported unharmed following the incident.
