โก๐ Las Vegas Hosts Summit on Accelerating EV Charging Network Expansion
A significant portion of Americans remains hesitant to switch to electric vehicles (EVs) due to concerns over charging availability and range. Shailen Bhatt, the Federal Highway Administration's administrator, believes expanding the charging infrastructure is key to overcoming these barriers. Speaking at the EV Charging Summit and Expo in Las Vegas, Bhatt underscored the need for more charging stations to alleviate range anxiety and encourage EV purchases.
Recent statistics reveal only about 25% of Americans are considering buying an EV, with many citing the scarcity of charging stations and worries about battery range as major deterrents. Las Vegas, for instance, has nearly 1,400 EV charging stations, a figure set to rise thanks to significant investments from both federal and state levels aimed at enhancing Nevada's EV infrastructure.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will inject $38 million into Nevada for EV network expansion, while NV Energy is set to contribute approximately $70 million towards electrifying the state's transportation. Bhatt highlighted the strategic placement of chargers in urban and interstate areas as crucial for boosting EV adoption.
Industry leaders, like Andrew Cornelia of Mercedes-Benz HPC North America, also stress the importance of location in charging station placement, advocating for sites where drivers can enjoy their time while their vehicle charges. Partnerships with entities like Buc-eeโs exemplify efforts to create more user-friendly charging experiences across the country.
As the Biden administration aims to swell the number of U.S. public chargers to 500,000 by 2030, further federal funding and incentives may be necessary. Bhatt suggests that additional bipartisan support could be essential in achieving this goal, while Cornelia emphasizes the role of government incentives in catalyzing private investment and building a robust EV charging network.
This concerted push towards expanding EV charging infrastructure represents a critical step in addressing consumer concerns, setting the stage for broader EV adoption and contributing to a more sustainable transportation future.
๐ Golden Knights Secure Strategic Win Against Seattle Kraken with Late-Game Heroics
The Vegas Golden Knights showcased a comprehensive defensive effort, culminating in a thrilling 3-1 victory over the Seattle Kraken at T-Mobile Arena. This victory not only marked a much-needed complete game for the team but also advanced their record during the homestand to 2-1-0.
Keegan Kolesar emerged as the late-game hero, breaking a tie with only 1:20 left on the clock, following an aggressive play by left wing Brett Howden. Despite Seattle's challenge for offsides, the goal was validated, propelling the Knights to their fourth win in six games. Goalie Logan Thompson supported the victory with 21 saves, maintaining a shutout until nearly 54 minutes into the game.
Jack Eichel achieved a personal milestone, scoring his 499th NHL career point, while Chandler Stephenson sealed the deal with an empty-net goal. This win is significant, pushing the Knights closer to a playoff position, extending their lead in the wild-card race to four points over the St. Louis Blues.
Despite previous struggles in the goalie's crease and on defense, the Knights demonstrated improved coordination and strategic gameplay, limiting the Kraken to minimal high-danger chances. This shift towards a more disciplined and detail-oriented play was noted by Coach Bruce Cassidy, emphasizing the importance of consistent effort and detailed work in the team's success.
Jonathan Marchessault also hit a personal achievement, recording his 60th point of the season, contributing significantly to the game's outcome. However, the Knights continue to face challenges with their power play, a concern highlighted by Cassidy as needing a mental adjustment more than anything.
This game underscored the importance of strategic lineup changes and the effectiveness of the Knights' fourth line, demonstrating the team's depth and adaptability. As the season progresses, maintaining this level of performance and consistency will be crucial for the Knights' playoff aspirations.
๐ Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill Set to Open at Green Valley Ranch
Las Vegas' culinary landscape is about to get a boost with the debut of Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill at Green Valley Ranch on March 29. This marks the second location in Las Vegas for the Blue Ribbon Sushi brand, created by renowned chefs Eric and Bruce Bromberg of Blue Ribbon Restaurants, New York City. The original concept, which took root nearly three decades ago in Manhattan's Soho neighborhood, has since evolved into a beloved sushi destination.
The new venue boasts 124 seats and features a sushi counter with 13 seats, inviting diners to experience an array of sushi and sashimi, nightly specials, and hot Japanese dishes up close. The menu also includes signature dishes such as the iconic fried chicken with wasabi honey and a selection of grilled items, including baked miso half-lobster, wagyu skirt steak with miso pepper sauce, and a center-cut ponzu ribeye with steak frites.
To complement the culinary offerings, Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill presents a carefully curated beverage program. Guests can enjoy specialty cocktails, Japanese beer and whiskies, and an extensive sake list that features Blue Ribbonโs proprietary junmai, junmai ginjo, junmai daiginjo, and nigori sakes.
This opening is part of Station Casinos' broader initiative to renew and expand its portfolio, which includes recent additions like Leoncito Mexican restaurant at Red Rock Resort and the launch of the Durango resort. Another upcoming highlight is Ortikia, a Mediterranean wood-fire grill, slated to open at Green Valley Ranch this spring.
Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill will initially serve dinner from 3:30 to 10 p.m. on Sundays through Thursdays and from 3:30 to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Starting April 5, the restaurant will also open for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Fridays through Sundays, offering both new and loyal fans more opportunities to enjoy its exquisite dishes.
๐ฆนโโ๏ธ Downtown Las Vegas Restaurants Targeted in Break-Ins
In a distressing turn of events, two cherished downtown Las Vegas establishments, Tacotarian and Dig It Coffee Co., were victims of break-ins, as detailed in a recent Instagram post by @dtlv, a popular account that highlights the downtown area's happenings. The incidents, which occurred on Wednesday, have left the community in shock and disbelief over the senseless acts.
Tacotarian, a well-loved plant-based Mexican eatery that has been instrumental in driving foot traffic to the Arts District, suffered damages estimated at $3,500. The break-in resulted in the theft of their point-of-sale (POS) system and left the restaurant with a broken door. The burglars made off with a paltry sum of $10.53, a stark contrast to the extensive damages incurred. The restaurant, with four locations in Las Vegas and one in San Diego, has been a vocal advocate for small businesses, previously challenging the high fees of food delivery services like Uber Eats and DoorDash during the pandemic.
Dig It Coffee Co., a mission-driven coffee shop that provides employment opportunities for adults with disabilities, faced $2,000 in damages due to a similar break-in. The coffee shop, which operates as a cashless business, fortunately did not lose any money, as the burglars left empty-handed. This fact, however, does little to diminish the impact of the crime on a business committed to spreading kindness and positivity in the community.
Located at 1130 S. Casino Center Blvd., Suite 170, Tacotarian has become a cornerstone of the downtown Las Vegas dining scene since its founding in August 2018. Dig It Coffee Co., at 1300 S. Casino Center Blvd., Suite 110, has grown from offering vocational assistance to operating a brick-and-mortar location in the Arts District since September 2022, alongside its pop-up shops and event catering services.
These break-ins have struck a nerve with the downtown Las Vegas community, highlighting the challenges faced by businesses striving to make a positive difference in their neighborhoods.
