๐ต Electric Scooters Return to Las Vegas Streets with Go X's Unique Business Approach
Go X, a San Francisco-based company, is set to reintroduce two-wheeled electric scooters to the Las Vegas area with a business model aimed at avoiding the clutter of scooters on sidewalks. Unlike the dockless systems of brands like Lime, Bird, and Spin, Go X's model involves partnering with local businesses to serve as designated pick-up and drop-off points. Already piloting with about 10 locations and a fleet of 100 scooters, Go X plans to expand its presence by partnering with major resorts on the Strip and increasing its fleet to 1,000 by the end of 2024. The company emphasizes the benefits of its system for cities, local businesses, and users by keeping scooters off the streets and offering a practical transportation solution. Go X scooters are equipped with geo-fencing technology to prevent operation in certain areas like the Fremont Street Experience and potentially the Strip, ensuring compliance with local regulations. The service operates through a smartphone app, charging $1 plus $0.88 per minute, or $9.99 for every 35 minutes, with various unlimited rates available for longer periods.
โพ๏ธ Athletics Set to Call Sacramento Home Before Big Move to Las Vegas
The Oakland Athletics will relocate to Sacramento for the 2025-2027 MLB seasons while their new ballpark in Las Vegas is being constructed. This temporary move will see the A's playing at Sutter Health Park, a Triple-A ballpark, with an option to extend their stay through 2028 if necessary. During this period, the team will not carry a city designation, simply being referred to as the Athletics or A's. The decision comes after negotiations to extend their stay at the Oakland Coliseum fell through, despite a long-standing relationship and discussions with both Oakland and Sacramento officials. The team's relocation efforts include playing spring training and possibly a few regular-season games in Las Vegas to familiarize themselves with the market. The Aโs are planning a big launch in Las Vegas for the 2028 season, with their $1.5 billion stadium set to have a capacity of 33,000. The team acknowledges the bittersweet nature of leaving Oakland after 56 years but looks forward to creating new memories in Sacramento and eventually Las Vegas.
โก๏ธ Energy Promises Lower Electric Bills in 2024 Due to Falling Natural Gas Prices
NV Energy has announced that electric bills in Southern Nevada are expected to see a significant decrease throughout 2024, with CEO Doug Cannon citing lower natural gas prices as the primary reason for the reduction. Customers are projected to enjoy a 15% reduction in their electric bills by the end of 2024 compared to the end of 2023, with residential customers experiencing an even greater decrease of 17%. This reduction could translate to a $30 decrease on an average bill. The decrease is attributed to a 35.5% drop in natural gas prices from March 2023 to March 2024, marking the lowest price point since 1997 according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. This price drop is partly due to a warmer-than-average winter reducing the demand for natural gas. While electric rates have seen a slight decrease as of April, NV Energy cautions that total bills may rise during the summer months due to increased energy demand. The company encourages energy conservation and offers resources to help manage usage and costs.
๐ฌ Cents Only Stores to Shut All US Locations in Surprise Closure
99 Cents Only Stores, a prominent discount retail chain, has announced the closure of all its 371 outlets across the United States, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. This decision affects stores in key states including California, Arizona, Nevada, and Texas, with a notable presence in Las Vegas and Henderson. The chain plans to initiate liquidation sales starting Friday. Founded in 1982 and headquartered in Commerce, California, the company has been a fixture in the discount retail sector for decades.
The Las Vegas area, in particular, has been an important market for the retailer, hosting 14 stores in Las Vegas and three in Henderson. The Review-Journal highlighted the chain's local impact, noting special promotional events such as the sale of flat-screen TVs for 99 cents at the opening of its store on N. Rancho Drive in 2011, and its efforts to introduce beer and wine sales at select locations in 2013.
