🦹‍♂️ Security Concerns Precede Fatal Shooting in Las Vegas Custody Case

In a tragic incident stemming from a contentious child custody battle in Las Vegas, attorney Dennis Prince and his wife Ashley Prince were fatally shot by her ex-husband's father, Joseph Houston II, during a deposition at the Prince Law Group's office. The couple, who had an infant child, was embroiled in a dispute with Ashley's ex-husband, Dylan Houston, a lawyer in Las Vegas. Ashley had sought security for the deposition fearing Dylan's access to firearms, but canceled the request after learning he would not attend. Just days before the shooting, tensions were evident as Dylan mocked Dennis in an email for hiring a private investigator who revealed Dylan's recent drinking and driving behavior. Following the shooting, an emergency motion was granted to give sole custody of Ashley and Dylan's children to Ashley's sister. Dylan Houston has denied allegations suggesting he was aware of his father's intentions.

🏈 Michigan's McCarthy in Spotlight as Raiders Evaluate Draft Options

J.J. McCarthy, the standout quarterback from Michigan, embodies the projection-centric nature of the NFL draft. Despite not being heavily relied upon in college to lead Michigan's offense, averaging just 22 pass attempts per game, McCarthy's potential at the next level is a hot topic among NFL teams. His considerable attributes—size, arm strength, intelligence, athleticism—coupled with a stellar 27-1 record as a starter, make him an intriguing prospect. Yet, the limited scope of his role in college leaves questions about his capacity to anchor an NFL team.

McCarthy's transition to professional football is anticipated to be smoother than most, thanks to his experience in a pro-style offense at Michigan under coach Jim Harbaugh. His exceptional performance in high-pressure situations and ability to execute off-schedule plays highlight his readiness for the NFL. However, concerns about his ability to consistently make basic NFL throws and push the ball down the field present challenges.

As the Las Vegas Raiders consider their options for the upcoming draft, McCarthy stands out as a candidate with both high potential and uncertainties. The decision to trade up from the 13th overall pick for McCarthy would be a bold move, reflecting the Raiders' need for a dynamic young quarterback but also acknowledging the risk involved in such a projection.

🏈 Thrill One Sports and Entertainment Relocates to Las Vegas, Citing Super Bowl's Influence

Thrill One Sports and Entertainment, previously based in Costa Mesa, California, has officially relocated to Las Vegas, setting up its new headquarters at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) facility in southwest Las Vegas at the start of April. The move was announced by CEO Matt Cohn during the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance’s (LVGEA) State of Economic Development event. This relocation aligns with the company's strategy to capitalize on Las Vegas' booming sports and entertainment scene, further highlighted by the city hosting the Super Bowl.

Thrill One, which organizes and creates content for action sports events like vehicle races, motocross, and skateboarding, sees Las Vegas as offering a competitive edge, especially in hosting brands and athletes. The company was encouraged to move by the LVGEA’s $2 million LOCATE program, which showcased Southern Nevada's diverse offerings beyond the Strip during the Super Bowl, convincing Cohn to relocate 40 of its 50 employees to Vegas, with plans to hire more by year's end.

In addition to the allure of the Super Bowl, Thrill One received $214,000 in tax abatements from the Governor’s Office of Economic Development last year. The company, which was acquired for $300 million in 2022 by Fiume Capital and Juggernaut Capital Partners—with backing from UFC President Dana White—aims to emulate UFC's success in the region.

The LVGEA also highlighted its role in diversifying Southern Nevada's economy, assisting 12 companies in relocating or expanding in Las Vegas in 2023, creating 727 jobs and generating significant economic impact and tax revenue for the area.

🎰 Las Vegas' Ellis Island Casino Announces Expansion Ahead of 56th Anniversary

Ellis Island, a family-owned hotel-casino located off the Las Vegas Strip, is currently undergoing an expansion to enhance its gaming area. The project, outlined in planning documents submitted to Clark County, will add 6,415 square feet to the venue. This expansion involves demolishing the existing microbrewery to create a larger casino floor, a new area for audio/visual equipment, a sportsbook back-of-house, and a south service entrance vestibule. Christina Ellis, the Vice President of Development, emphasized that the renovation aims to offer an improved gaming and entertainment experience while paying tribute to the property's legacy.

The new structure will extend closer to the sidewalk and feature rooftop access, aiming for completion within eight to ten months. Anamarie Ellis, Vice President of Operations, expressed excitement about entering a new era with the upcoming 56th anniversary of Ellis Island. The venue has evolved significantly since its inception in 1967, with this expansion marking its latest phase of growth since the introduction of the Front Yard beer garden in 2019.
