โšพ๐Ÿถ Las Vegas Ballpark Says Goodbye to Fan-Favorite Finn the Bat Dog

Finn the Bat Dog, a beloved black Labrador retriever who has been retrieving bats for the Triple-A Las Vegas Aviators since 2016, is retiring. His final game will be on April 19 at the Las Vegas Ballpark against the Tacoma Rainiers, as he celebrates his upcoming 12th birthday.

Finn, who began his career when the team was still known as the 51s and played at Cashman Field, quickly became a crowd favorite with his enthusiastic bat fetching and engaging tricks. In 2018, Finn and his trainer, Fred Hassen, expanded their routine to include more intricate performances during the early innings of each game. Finn's duties also included delivering water to umpires and showcasing his agility by jumping over obstacles.

The Aviators are planning a special retirement celebration for Finn, which includes giving away Finn-themed jerseys and having him "throw" the first pitch of the game. Fans will also have the chance to take photos with Finn during the game.

James Jensen, Aviators senior director of sponsorships, expressed how integral Finn has been to the team's atmosphere, saying, "We joke around Las Vegas Ballpark is the house that Finn built." While Finn's retirement marks the end of an era, the team plans to continue collaborating with Hassen and potentially introduce new bat dogs in the future.

๐Ÿ’ Golden Knights Icon Fleury Faces Emotional Return Amid Retirement Talks

Minnesota Wild goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, revered for his charismatic presence and formidable career, may be skating in his final NHL season. At 39, Fleury, who ranks second all-time in NHL wins, is contemplating retirement even as he continues to perform at a high level.

Jon Merrill, a defenseman for the Minnesota Wild and former teammate of Fleury with the Golden Knights, noted the unique connection Fleury has with fans, unmatched by any other player he's known. This bond was particularly evident during Fleury's tenure with the Golden Knights, starting with the team's remarkable expansion season in 2017.

Fleury's potential final game at T-Mobile Arena, where he played for the first four seasons of the Knights' history, is scheduled for Friday night against his old team. His return is highly anticipated, with fans and former teammates eager to celebrate his legacy. Fleury himself expressed a mix of nostalgia and appreciation for the support he has always received in Las Vegas.

The impact of Fleury on the Golden Knights and their fans was profound. He not only became a symbol of the team's rapid success but also formed a deep emotional connection with the city. His departure in 2021 to Chicago was a significant moment, with general manager Kelly McCrimmon acknowledging him as "the most popular player Iโ€™ve ever seen in sports."

As Fleury considers his future, his legacy as a beloved figure in both Las Vegas and the NHL remains undisputed. Fans continue to hold him in high regard, a testament to his influence both on and off the ice.

๐Ÿฆนโ€โ™‚๏ธ O.J. Simpson, Acquitted Celebrity, Dies in Las Vegas at Age 76

O.J. Simpson, the former NFL star whose legal troubles overshadowed his sports achievements, has died in Las Vegas at the age of 76. Simpson was most famously acquitted in the 1994 murders of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, in a case that captured global attention.

However, Simpson faced a different outcome in 2008 in Las Vegas, where he was convicted for the kidnapping and armed robbery of two sports memorabilia dealers at Palace Station. Sentenced to nine to 33 years, his trial was speculated by some to be influenced by his previous acquittal, although the presiding District Judge Jackie Glass emphasized that the sentence was not about "retribution or any payback."

Simpson served nine years of his sentence and was released from Lovelock Correctional Center in Northern Nevada on October 1, 2017. He completed his parole in December 2021, after the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners granted him an early discharge.

Simpson's death marks the end of a tumultuous public life, where his legal battles often overshadowed his sports career and celebrity status.

๐ŸŽฐ MGM Resorts Replaces Bellagio's Dead Trees with Climate-Resilient Species

MGM Resorts International announced plans to replace dead fir trees in front of the Bellagio fountains with a more resilient species. This move follows criticism over the removal of mature trees for the Bellagio Fountain Club during last year's Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix.

The original trees, placed in planter boxes for easy removal, did not survive, prompting the company to consult with in-house and third-party experts to select appropriate replacements. According to a company statement, these new trees are sustainably sourced and suited to the harsh desert climate of Southern Nevada.

The replacement effort is part of MGM's ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and guest experience. The new trees will be installed next week, potentially causing temporary disruptions along Las Vegas Boulevard. MGM has not disclosed the cost of the tree replacement project.
