๐Ÿ’ฒ Clark County Commissioners to Decide on Sidewalk Vendor Licensing Ordinance

Clark County commissioners are gearing up for a crucial vote on a new ordinance that could reshape the landscape for sidewalk vendors. The vote, scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the commission chambers of the Clark County Government Center, follows proposed changes to licensing and operational rules for sidewalk vendors throughout the county.

The proposed ordinance aims to regulate where and when vendors can operate, the types of products they can sell, and the size of their stands or carts. Additionally, it would require vendors to secure a license from the county, a permit from the Southern Nevada Health District, and an insurance policy to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

Under the new regulations, vendors failing to adhere to the rules could face significant penalties, including a $500 fine per violation and potential misdemeanor charges. Specifically, those without a valid health permit risk having their food products immediately destroyed to prevent the distribution of unsafe food.

This move follows an earlier ordinance that restricted street vendors from operating within 1,500 feet of resort hotels or large venues, illustrating a continued effort by the county to manage street vending, which was legalized by state law last year.

The upcoming vote has stirred a mix of responses, with some community members and advocates expressing concerns that the regulations may be overly stringent, potentially threatening the livelihoods of approximately 200 vendors estimated to be affected by the changes.

๐Ÿˆ Crosby Firm on Home Turf Respect: 'No Flags on Our Field

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby made a strong declaration as the team kicked off its offseason program, asserting that no rival team would dare disrespect a Raiders logo as happened in their home stadium during the Super Bowl. Crosby's comments refer to the incident where Kansas City Chiefs' Marquez Valdes-Scantling planted a Chiefs flag on the field at Allegiant Stadium after their Super Bowl victory over the 49ersโ€”a field that temporarily bore the NFL logo instead of the Raiders'.

Crosby expressed that the sight of the Chiefs winning and the subsequent flag planting did not drive his offseason motivation; rather, he is focused on ensuring such a scenario doesnโ€™t recur. "At the end of the day, nobody is planting a flag on our Raider logo. I can promise you that," Crosby stated emphatically.

Despite the sting of watching a rival triumph on their turf, Crosby finds motivation in a Christmas Day victory against the Chiefs, emphasizing a strong defensive performance. He downplays the importance of verbal rivalries and stresses the importance of proving the team's mettle on the field.

The Raiders' defensive leader did not mince words about his teamโ€™s readiness for the upcoming season, indicating that their actions will speak louder than any pre-game banter. "They know what type of time weโ€™re going to be on," Crosby added, signaling a robust start to the season is in the pipeline.

๐Ÿข Downtown Summerlin to Welcome New Chanel and Lego Stores in Coming Months

Downtown Summerlin is set to become even more vibrant with the addition of two high-profile retailers later this year. Chanel Fragrance and Beauty Boutique and a Lego store are both gearing up to open their doors, bringing a mix of luxury and fun to the shopping complex.

Chanel is planning to launch its Fragrance and Beauty Boutique in the fall, adding to the numerous locations in the valley where customers can purchase Chanel products. The boutique will offer a range of Chanelโ€™s luxury beauty and fragrance lines.

The Lego store, set to open in late spring, will mark the brand's second location in Las Vegas, complementing its existing store at the Fashion Show Mall on the Strip. The new store will provide a creative and interactive shopping experience for Lego enthusiasts of all ages.

Andy Ciarrocchi, Senior Vice President of Management and Operations for Howard Hughes Holdings, which owns the Summerlin retail complex, expressed excitement about the new additions. "Both Chanel Beauty and Fragrance and Lego are best in class retailers in their respective categories and are great additions to Downtown Summerlinโ€™s impressive retail line-up," said Ciarrocchi.

The announcement has already generated significant interest and excitement among local shoppers and brand loyalists throughout the valley.

๐Ÿข Nevada to Rank High in Hotel Tax Revenue and Compensation in 2024

According to a recent report by the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA), Nevada's hotel industry is poised for a robust year in 2024, with significant economic contributions in both tax revenue and compensation. The state's hotels are expected to generate approximately $8.1 billion in taxes, ranking third behind California and New York. This includes $3.7 billion in federal taxes and $4.4 billion in state and local taxes.

Additionally, the industry in Nevada is forecasted to pay out $14.4 billion in wages, salaries, and compensation, marking it as the second highest in the nation. This figure reflects a nationwide increase of 4.6 percent over 2023 and a more than 20 percent rise since 2019.

Despite these positive financial projections, AHLA's interim president and CEO, Kevin Carey, emphasized the challenges facing the industry. Carey noted that the hotel sector is grappling with a labor shortage, inflation, and regulatory issues that could impede future growth.

The labor shortage is particularly pronounced in Nevada, where there are about 10.6 percent fewer hotel workers compared to 2019. The situation is even more severe in the Las Vegas Valley, with a 15 percent reduction in hotel workforce since February 2019.

The AHLA report also highlighted that 2023 was a recovery year for the industry, with higher occupancy rates anticipated in 2024. However, the demand for more workers remains high, with the Bureau of Labor Statistics reporting a national average hotel wage of $23.84 per hour in February, but still showing 1.36 job vacancies for every unemployed person.
