๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿซ UNLV's Fast-Track Program Successfully Combats Teacher Shortage in Nevada

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) has implemented a fast-track education program known as the Paraprofessionals Pathways Project to address teacher shortages in Nevada. The program, designed for school aids, bus drivers, and other support staff, enables participants to quickly transition into teaching roles by offering a streamlined path to earning a Bachelorโ€™s Degree and a Teaching License. Since its inception four years ago, the program has graduated 160 individuals, nearly all of whom have chosen to remain in Nevada to teach.

Jeanette Sanjurjo, a graduate of the program, now teaches fourth grade at Laura Dearing Elementary. She values the relationships she has built at the school and chose to stay because of her connection to the community and desire to make a positive impact. Sanjurjo highlights the flexibility of the program, noting that she was able to complete her coursework online and meet with peers over weekends, making it manageable alongside her responsibilities as a long-term substitute teacher.

The program covers a wide range of teaching areas, from pre-K through 8th grade to special education at the high school level. UNLV has recently opened applications for the next cohort, continuing its commitment to filling educational roles in the state with dedicated, locally trained teachers.

๐Ÿ’ Golden Knights Aim for Strong Finish in Regular Season Finale Against Ducks

The Vegas Golden Knights are set to conclude their regular season with a game against the Anaheim Ducks at T-Mobile Arena. A victory in this final game would secure a four-game winning streak as they prepare to defend their Stanley Cup championship. The playoff picture in the Western Conference is largely set, though the Knights' exact seeding and first-round opponent remain uncertain. They could potentially face the Edmonton Oilers, Dallas Stars, or Vancouver Canucks depending on the outcomes of their own and other teams' final games.

The Knights currently hold a slight lead over the Los Angeles Kings for third place in the Pacific Division. A win against the Ducks would lock them into a first-round matchup against the Oilers, echoing last year's series which the Knights won. If the Knights lose and the Kings win their final game, Las Vegas could fall to the second wild card spot, facing the conference's top seed in the playoffs.

Coach Bruce Cassidy acknowledges the challenges ahead but remains confident in his team's capabilities. The Knights aim to enter the playoffs with strong form, building on recent victories and refining their gameplay as the postseason approaches.

๐Ÿข $200,000 Redevelopment Plan Set to Revitalize Las Vegas Chinatown

Chinatown in Las Vegas, known for its vibrant mix of Asian and non-Asian businesses, is facing traffic and parking challenges due to its popularity. The Manga Hole, an anime and manga shop co-owned by Amber Plyler and Brendan Heady, exemplifies the local businesses affected by these issues, with customers and employees struggling to find parking. Despite good business, the parking woes and heavy traffic on Spring Mountain Road are hindering accessibility, affecting primarily local patrons who make up about 70% of the shop's clientele.

Clark County is addressing these concerns by investing $200,000 to create a redevelopment plan for the Spring Mountain corridor, which could include improved signage and road enhancements. This initiative aims to make the area more accessible and pedestrian-friendly, potentially adding pedestrian bridges and widening sidewalks.

Local business owners, including those of the Golden Tiki and Double Zero Pie & Pub, echo the need for more parking and better transportation options, including the potential addition of Vegas Loop sites by the Boring Co. The plan also explores new developments on available land, which could include high-rise buildings with retail and residential spaces, further enhancing Chinatown's appeal to both tourists and locals.

๐ŸŽฐ Eureka Resort in Nevada to Undergo $100 Million Upgrade, Including Employee Housing

The Eureka resort-casino in Mesquite, Nevada, has launched a significant $100 million renovation and expansion project aimed at modernizing and enlarging the property. The project, spearheaded by Executive Chairman Greg Lee and CEO Andre Carrier, began with a $40 million investment to revamp the 212-room hotel and the casino area of 40,285 square feet. The renovation will extend to the exterior, casino floor, hotel rooms, and dining venues.

The first phase of the initiative also includes an upgrade of Gregory's Mesquite Grill, expected to be completed by this summer. The overall renovations are anticipated to be finished by late 2026 or early 2027.

Eurekaโ€™s second phase, dubbed Eureka 3.0, will focus on developing approximately 35 acres behind the existing casino. Plans include constructing retail spaces, resort condominiums, and workforce housing, leveraging a site currently used for Fourth of July celebrations. Although the timeline for this phase is not defined, it will involve land entitlements and planning.

This ambitious redevelopment not only aims to enhance the customer experience but also invests in the future of its employee-owners. The casino became employee-owned in 2015 and is the only such establishment in Nevada. The project is seen as a commitment to both long-term and newer employees, ensuring their stake in the company's growth.
