๐Ÿซ The Rogers Foundation Fulfills College Scholarship Promise to North Las Vegas Students

In 2015, a third-grade class at Reynaldo Martinez Elementary School in North Las Vegas received a promising announcement: each student was granted a college scholarship upon high school graduation by The Rogers Foundation. This gesture was a result of funding from the late Jim Rogers, who had set up a trust funded by the sale of his television channel and car collection. Fast forward to the present, Evelin Lopez and her classmates, now seniors, attended a ceremony where they received medals symbolizing their scholarships.

Evelin Lopez, set to graduate from Rancho High School, plans to use her scholarship at Nevada State College to pursue a degree in education. Her peers, Jaโ€™Lonna Young and Lucy Garcia-Bermuda, are heading to the University of Nevada, Reno, with ambitions in veterinary science and education, respectively.

The foundation's efforts, guided by Beverly Rogers and influenced by Jim Rogers' legacy, aim to promote children's education in Southern Nevada significantly. This initiative began by selecting a third-grade class that showed promising improvement and engagement at Martinez Elementary. The recent ceremony not only celebrated the students' upcoming collegiate journeys but also honored the foundation's commitment to enhancing educational opportunities.

๐Ÿˆ Raiders Eye Future Linebacker Prospects Amid Contract Uncertainties

The Las Vegas Raiders are assessing their linebacker needs ahead of the NFL draft, with a focus on future-proofing their roster despite having capable starters. Robert Spillane and Divine Deablo, the current starters, are both entering the final year of their contracts, raising the possibility that the Raiders might lose one or both in free agency next year.

The Raiders hold the 44th and 77th overall picks in the draft, positions that are currently considered too early to select a linebacker given their existing depth and the return of promising inside linebacker Darien Butler from injury. Early draft rounds are expected to focus on more pressing needs like quarterback, offensive line, and cornerback.

However, the third round could offer opportunities to pick a linebacker. Potential candidates like Edgerrin Cooper from Texas A&M, Payton Wilson from North Carolina State, and Trevin Wallace from Kentucky have been identified as valuable picks for their athletic abilities and defensive skills, particularly at pick number 77.

In the later rounds, from the fourth to the seventh, the Raiders might consider selecting developmental players. Prospects like Cedric Gray from North Carolina, Edefuan Ulofoshio from Washington, and others are noted for their potential contributions, especially in special teams and as future defensive regulars.

๐Ÿข Smithโ€™s Sets Hiring Event for Expanding North Las Vegas Distribution Facility

Smith's, a subsidiary of Kroger Co., is set to expand its grocery distribution center in North Las Vegas, aiming to boost its workforce and operational capabilities. Located in the Apex Industrial Park, the distribution center is enhancing its infrastructure to include cold storage facilities. This expansion is part of a strategic development that was initially supported by $3.8 million in tax abatements from the city.

A hiring event is scheduled for next Thursday, April 25, where Smith's plans to recruit 60 new employees. This addition will increase the center's workforce from 160 to 220 employees. Prospective applicants are required to complete an online application at krogerfamilycareers.com before being invited to attend the hiring event at the distribution center itself.

The expansion includes plans to gradually open cold storage operations through 2024 and 2025, which will handle a variety of products including deli items, meats, dairy, produce, and frozen goods. This development is expected to enhance the facility's service capacity, distributing groceries to Smith's locations across the Southwest.

๐ŸŽฐ "60 Minutes" Sheds Light on MGM Cyberattack as Legal Battle Heats Up

MGM Resorts International continues to grapple with the repercussions of a major cyberattack that occurred in September, causing an estimated $100 million in damages due to halted operations and necessary IT repairs. The incident, which began on September 10 and lasted for ten days, significantly disrupted MGM's services, impacting slot machines, ATMs, hotel access systems, and more across its properties.

Recently, the cyberattack resurfaced in headlines due to MGM's legal action against the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the lawsuit challenges an FTC demand for extensive information concerning the cyberattack, arguing that FTC Chairwoman Lina Khan should be recused due to her direct experience of the attack's effects during a stay at MGM Grand.

A recent "60 Minutes" report highlighted the ongoing investigation into the attack, identifying potential culprits as the hacking groups Scattered Spider and BlackCat. The report also delved into the cybersecurity landscape, featuring insights from industry experts about the tactics and motivations of these cybercriminal groups.

MGM's lawsuit and the continued fallout from the cyberattack highlight broader issues related to cybersecurity practices and regulatory scrutiny in the casino and hospitality industry, especially concerning customer data protection and operational security.
