⛷🏂 Lee Canyon and Brian Head Extend Ski Season into May Following Late Snowfall

As winter transitions into spring, ski and snowboard enthusiasts have a reason to celebrate. Lee Canyon and Brian Head Resort are extending their seasons into May, giving snow lovers additional days to enjoy the slopes. This extension marks the second consecutive year that favorable late-season snowfalls have allowed the resorts to prolong their operations.

Brian Head Resort in Cedar City, Utah, has received a notable 10 inches of fresh snow recently, contributing to a seasonal total of 306 inches. This impressive accumulation has prompted the resort to add a bonus weekend of skiing and snowboarding from Friday, May 10, through Sunday, May 12. The resort, initially set to close on May 5, will now offer extra days for visitors to explore its expansive and diverse terrains.

Lee Canyon Resort, located just an hour away from Las Vegas, reported 6 inches of new snow from the same storm, bringing their seasonal total to 221 inches. Enthusiasts can look forward to Lee Canyon's third annual “Spring Session” from Friday, May 3, through Sunday, May 5, with operations running from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Resort officials have indicated that weekend sessions might continue if the weather remains conducive.

During the extended season at Lee Canyon, the Bluebird chairlift will be operational, catering to intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders. Additional amenities at the base area will also be open, including the Lee Canyon Sports and Pro Shop, the Brewin Burro coffee shop in the Hillside Lodge, Bristlecone Bar, and the scenic Sky Deck. Visitors are encouraged to purchase lift tickets in advance through the resort’s website to ensure availability.

Both Lee Canyon and Brian Head had experienced slower starts to the season, with dry conditions in November and December. However, the recent snowfalls have dramatically improved conditions, reminiscent of last season when Lee Canyon saw a record 262 inches of snowfall and similarly extended its season into May.

The extended season is not only a boon for local and visiting snow sports enthusiasts but also boosts the local economy by attracting additional tourism and extending employment for seasonal resort staff.

For those planning to take advantage of the extended season, it is advisable to check the latest weather conditions and resort schedules, as operations are subject to change based on weather developments.

👩🏀 Las Vegas Aces Star Candace Parker Announces Retirement

Candace Parker, one of the WNBA's most accomplished players, has announced her retirement, marking the end of an illustrious 16-year career. The news came on the first day of the Las Vegas Aces' training camp, leaving both teammates and fans reflecting on her impactful legacy in women's basketball.

Parker's retirement was confirmed through her Instagram and subsequently by the Las Vegas Aces on social media. The Aces praised her significant contributions, especially highlighting her role in the team’s 2023 WNBA championship run. “There's only one Candace Parker. One of one," stated Aces coach Becky Hammon, echoing the sentiments of many around the league.

Throughout her career, Parker achieved remarkable success, securing two MVP titles, three WNBA championships, and two Olympic gold medals. Her presence on the court was a blend of skill, leadership, and inspiration, influencing a generation of players.

Aces guard Kelsey Plum and forward A’ja Wilson expressed their admiration and respect for Parker, with Wilson calling her retirement a "gut punch" and acknowledging Parker as her "GOAT." Despite the disappointment, there is a collective acknowledgment of Parker’s need to prioritize her health following a challenging offseason marked by foot surgery and ongoing recovery struggles.

Parker’s departure opens up opportunities for new talent in the Aces’ roster, with recent draft picks like Syracuse guard Dyaisha Fair poised to step up. The Aces' training camp currently hosts 16 players, with adjustments needed to meet the league's 12-player roster requirement by the season opener on May 14 against the Phoenix Mercury.

As the Aces and their fans bid farewell to a basketball icon, Parker’s legacy of pushing the game forward remains a beacon for future generations. Her final message resonates deeply within the sports community: "I promised I’d never cheat the game and that I’d leave it in a better place than I came into it."

🚗 Ex-Congressional Candidate Daniel Rodimer Indicted for Murder in Las Vegas

Daniel Rodimer, a former congressional candidate and professional wrestler, has been indicted on a murder charge related to the death of Christopher Tapp at a Las Vegas Strip resort last fall. A Clark County grand jury issued the indictment on Thursday, charging that the killing was “willful, deliberate, and premeditated.”

The incident allegedly took place during a party at the Resorts World hotel suite on October 29. According to police reports, the confrontation began after Tapp, who had previously been exonerated after 20 years in prison for a wrongful murder conviction, was accused of offering drugs to Rodimer's stepdaughter.

Witnesses claim an altercation ensued after Rodimer confronted Tapp in a bathroom, threatening him over the interaction with his stepdaughter. Shortly after, Tapp was found struck on the head, leading to his death. The exact circumstances of the altercation are still under investigation, but text messages purportedly sent by Rodimer’s wife, Sarah Duffy, to Rodimer stating she had "watched you nearly" murder someone have surfaced, complicating the defense.

Rodimer, who resides in Texas, turned himself into the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department custody on March 6 and was released on $200,000 bail. His legal team has attempted to suppress the messages from his wife, but it remains unclear if these efforts were successful before the case advanced to District Court.

Rodimer's attorneys, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, assert his innocence, stating, “Mr. Rodimer maintains his complete innocence and looks forward to being vindicated in court.” They emphasize the importance of respecting the legal principle of the presumption of innocence.

This indictment adds a significant chapter to Rodimer’s controversial public life, which includes a failed bid for Nevada’s 3rd District, where he was endorsed by then-President Donald Trump, and a subsequent unsuccessful run in Texas’ 6th Congressional District.

The arraignment hearing for Rodimer is scheduled for May 8, where further details of the case are expected to emerge.

💲 Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift Team Up for Charity at Las Vegas Auction

NFL star Travis Kelce turned auctioneer for a night during the 15 and the Mahomies Las Vegas Golf Tournament dinner, captivating attendees at the Bellagio with his charm and a surprise auction item: tickets to Taylor Swift’s "Eras Tour." The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, alongside professional auctioneer Harry Santa-Olalla, managed to stir up excitement and possibly hefty bids for four tickets to one of Swift's highly anticipated tour dates.

The event, which took place on Saturday night, saw Kelce enthusiastically engaging with the crowd to drive up bids, using his star power to boost the charitable contributions. Though it remains unclear how much the tickets eventually sold for, a clip shared by model Sophia Romano on Instagram, reposted by Vegas Revealed, hinted at significant interest with bids heating up during the auction.

Adding to the star-studded evening, Swift's latest album "The Tortured Poets Department" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, tying with Jay-Z for the most No. 1 albums by a solo artist. This milestone underscores Swift’s enduring popularity, which likely contributed to the high interest in the auction items.

The charity event didn’t just focus on high-value auctions. Entertainment included an Elvis impersonator and showgirls, ensuring that the VIP guests were thoroughly entertained. Swift herself, alongside Kelce, was reported to be in town starting Friday, joining Patrick and Brittany Mahomes at various venues, including Easy’s Cocktail Lounge at Aria, which was rented out for a private event.

The 15 and the Mahomies event, which extends through Monday at Shadow Creek Golf Club, supports various charitable causes aimed at improving children’s lives through health and wellness initiatives. Kelce's involvement in the auction highlights his commitment to philanthropy and his ability to leverage his celebrity status for a good cause.
