๐ŸŽถ High Wind Warning Ends 'LOVERS & FRIENDS' Festival Plans in Las Vegas

The "LOVERS & FRIENDSโ€ festival in Las Vegas, scheduled for Saturday, has been canceled due to severe weather forecasts. The announcement came late Friday night on the festival's social media pages, citing high winds expected on Saturday. This annual hip-hop and R&B event was set to feature headliners like Alicia Keys, Janet Jackson, Usher, Snoop Dogg, and many more across five stages, but concerns over safety forced its cancellation. The National Weather Service predicted sustained winds of 30-35 mph, with gusts potentially exceeding 60 mph. Organizers emphasized that the decision, made in consultation with local officials, was to protect fans, artists, and staff. Refunds will be provided within 30 days for those who purchased tickets directly.

Responses flooded in on social media, with many attendees expressing frustration due to travel expenses and last-minute timing. This isn't the first festival in Las Vegas to face cancellations due to high winds, as similar situations occurred at past events like "When We Were Young" in 2022 and Electric Daisy Carnival in 2019.

๐Ÿ’ Golden Knights Defeat Stars 2-0, Force Decisive Game 7 in Dallas

The Vegas Golden Knights forced a decisive Game 7 after defeating the Dallas Stars 2-0 in Game 6 of their first-round playoff series at T-Mobile Arena. The game remained scoreless until defenseman Noah Hanifin scored midway through the third period, followed by an empty-net goal from captain Mark Stone. Goalie Adin Hill made 23 saves to earn his third postseason shutout, with all three coming against the Stars. The Knights are set for their fourth Game 7 in franchise history at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, where they have a 2-1 record in winner-take-all games.

Coach Bruce Cassidy praised the team's solid defense and Hill's exceptional goaltending. Hill's crucial saves early in the second period helped maintain the stalemate until the Knights broke through offensively. The victory showcased the Knights' balanced effort, with contributions from all lines. The cumulative score over the six games is now 15-14 in favor of the Knights.

โ›ฐ Red Rock Legacy Trail Secures $1M Federal Grant for Safer Pathway Development

The Red Rock Legacy Trail project, a $100 million-plus initiative to create a shared-use pathway from Summerlin to Red Rock Canyon, received a $1 million boost in federal funding. This funding was celebrated during a ceremony on State Route 159, with officials like Rep. Susan Lee and Clark County's Traffic Safety Director Andrew Bennett present. The project aims to enhance safety for bikers and pedestrians by providing an alternative to the busy roadway. It will also widen Route 159 and build a new parking lot near West Tech School in Summerlin.

The trail's development was motivated by a fatal accident in 2005 that claimed the life of a local police officer, Don Albietz. The project, involving collaboration between the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), Clark County, and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), still requires a finalized budget and construction timeline. NDOT spokesman Justin Hopkins acknowledged the challenges of estimating total costs due to varying stages of design. Most of the Red Rock land is managed by the BLM, which is leading the project.

๐Ÿซ Clark County Expands Redevelopment Efforts Near Strip with $6.3M Purchase

Clark County is intensifying its efforts to revitalize a retail center near the Las Vegas Strip, approving an additional $6.3 million to acquire more buildings. In April, the Clark County Redevelopment Agency voted to allocate $5 million for the purchase of two office and retail buildings covering 84,000 square feet in the Historic Commercial Center District, located about 1.5 miles from the Strip. The agency also set aside $1.3 million for future redevelopment.

The newly acquired buildings, labeled as the Commercial Arts Building, currently have three tenants who can continue their leases until expiration. This acquisition follows the county's earlier purchase of the New Orleans Square complex for $6.5 million. While Clark County is developing a master plan for the Historic Commercial Center, the specifics of the redevelopment timeline and objectives have not yet been disclosed.
