๐ฒโก Government Loosens EV Tax Credit Regulations, Expanding Credit Eligibility
The U.S. Treasury Department has adjusted the rules for electric vehicle (EV) tax credits, providing more flexibility for automakers to qualify their vehicles for credits up to $7,500. These changes, announced under the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, aim to help manufacturers comply with requirements related to sourcing battery minerals and components. The credits are designed to stimulate demand for EVs and help achieve the Biden administration's goal of making half of new vehicle sales electric by 2030.
The new regulations allow for exemptions on small amounts of untraceable minerals, such as graphite, until 2027. This change provides automakers more time to meet the rules targeting nations considered "of concern" like China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran. Currently, only 13 out of 114 EV models available in the U.S. qualify for the full credit. EV sales growth has slowed to 3.3% this year, highlighting the challenges automakers face in building a comprehensive EV supply chain.
๐ Vegas Golden Knights Fall to Stars, Ending Quest for Back-to-Back Titles
The Vegas Golden Knights fell short of defending their NHL championship after losing 2-1 to the Dallas Stars in Game 7 of their first-round series at the American Airlines Center. Despite significant challenges, including injuries and inconsistent offense, the Knights fought hard to stay competitive. Radek Faksa's deflected goal in the third period proved to be the game-winner, sending Dallas to the next round and ending the Golden Knights' hopes of back-to-back titles. Brett Howden scored the only goal for the Knights, while Adin Hill made 22 saves in a valiant effort. The series was tightly contested, with the cumulative score tied at 16-16 over the seven games.
Vegas struggled to maintain offensive momentum as key players like Jack Eichel and Jonathan Marchessault went quiet in the final games. Despite the setback, coach Bruce Cassidy praised the team's perseverance and looks forward to another attempt next season.
๐ถ Celebrity Duo Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani Join Forces for Power of Love Gala
Blake Shelton will be honored at the 27th annual Keep Memory Alive Power of Love gala, held at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas. His wife, Gwen Stefani, is set to join him at the event, which supports the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. While her specific performance plans are not confirmed, she previously sang duets with Shelton at the Ole Red Las Vegas opening party. The Power of Love gala will feature multiple celebrity chefs and musicians, including Kristin Chenoweth, Mickey Guyton, and Colbie Caillat.
The event aims to raise funds and awareness for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. The evening includes unique auction items like a sunset cruise hosted by comedian Brad Garrett. Other Vegas entertainers, such as Piff the Magic Dragon and Penn & Teller, will also be recognized at the Academy of Magical Arts Awards, with Piff receiving the "Magician of the Year" award.
๐ฆนโโ๏ธ UNLV Police Arrest Outsider for Defacing Campus Sign Amid Israel-Palestine Protest
A California woman was arrested at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) after allegedly defacing a "UNLV Strong" sign with "Free Palestine." UNLV officials emphasized that actions like encampments and occupying buildings will not be tolerated on campus, while acknowledging that the Israel-Palestine conflict can evoke strong emotions. The university assured that it remains committed to dialogue with students and faculty about their concerns.
The incident followed a peaceful "Walkout for Palestine" protest by students, which adhered to the university's request to maintain noise levels. The arrested woman was charged with a misdemeanor and banned from UNLV campuses for two years. UNLV confirmed she was not affiliated with the university. The damaged sign will be replaced before the upcoming commencement.
UNLV officials reiterated that protests disrupting learning or damaging property violate the university's values and policies, which will be enforced for both university members and outsiders.
