🎓 UNLV Celebrates Over 3,700 Graduates at Thomas & Mack Center
UNLV celebrated its graduating class of Spring 2024 at the Thomas & Mack Center, marking a momentous occasion for the university and its students. The university's president, Keith E. Whitfield, expressed his excitement and pride for the graduating class on X, highlighting the significance of commencement as a special time at UNLV.
In his X post on Saturday, Whitfield congratulated the graduating class and shared his enthusiasm for their accomplishments. He mentioned that more than 3,700 students were crossing the stage to join the ranks of over 140,000 Rebels as alumni of the esteemed university.
Whitfield also expressed his anticipation for the graduates' future endeavors, stating, "I can't wait to see what you do next!!!" This sentiment reflects the university's commitment to fostering a supportive and encouraging environment for its students, even as they transition into their post-graduate lives.
The Thomas & Mack Center, a prominent venue in Las Vegas, served as the perfect setting for the graduation ceremony, providing ample space for the graduates and their families to celebrate this important milestone. The event was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the graduating class, as well as the support and guidance provided by the faculty and staff at UNLV.
As these new alumni embark on their next chapters, they carry with them the knowledge, skills, and experiences gained during their time at UNLV. With the support of their alma mater and the Rebel community, they are well-prepared to make their mark on the world and achieve great success in their chosen fields.
🏒 Knights to Navigate Challenging Offseason with Six Key Free Agents
The Vegas Golden Knights, fresh from their Stanley Cup triumph, face a challenging offseason with critical contract decisions looming for six unrestricted free agents. General Manager Kelly McCrimmon highlighted the potential for greater roster turnover this year, emphasizing the team's focus on navigating the salary cap and contract negotiations.
Key among the players up for renewal is right winger Jonathan Marchessault, who delivered a career-high 42 goals this season and expressed a strong desire to remain with the team. His performance, especially after a Conn Smythe Trophy-winning playoff, makes him a top priority for the Knights, who will need to balance his salary expectations against the team's cap space.
The situation is less clear for other players like William Carrier, who has battled injuries, and Chandler Stephenson, who might find himself out of position with the team's current lineup. Veteran defenseman Alec Martinez might be considering retirement, adding another layer of complexity to the team's planning.
As the Knights aim to maintain their competitive edge, the decisions made this offseason will significantly influence their ability to sustain success and manage the cap effectively.
😋 Mick Jagger Enjoys Iconic Las Vegas Dining at Piero’s Before Rolling Stones Concert
Mick Jagger, the legendary frontman of the Rolling Stones, was spotted enjoying dinner at Piero’s Italian Cuisine in Las Vegas on Friday night. This visit came ahead of the band's scheduled performance at Allegiant Stadium. Jagger, who has been a global icon for over six decades, chose Piero's—a well-known spot for celebrities and a location featured in the 1995 film "Casino."
Arriving with a party of eight around 9:30 p.m., Jagger ordered Piero’s classic agnolotti with pesto sauce. The restaurant's general manager, Evan Glusman, noted the thorough security measures accompanying Jagger's visit, including the early scouting of the venue by an advance team. Among the other notable figures present were national radio broadcaster J.T. The Brick and choreographer Chucky Klapow, highlighting the restaurant's ongoing appeal to high-profile personalities.
This visit adds to Jagger’s history of exploring significant Las Vegas landmarks, having previously visited places like the Neon Museum and Fremont Street Experience during his tours.
🎰 Virgin Hotels Workers Conclude Strike, Eye Tuesday Negotiations
Hospitality workers at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas are in the midst of a two-day strike, demanding wage increases to match rising inflation and align with regional standards. The strike, initiated by members of Culinary Local 226, includes servers, stewards, and housekeepers among approximately 700 affected workers. This comes as Virgin remains the only property in the area not to settle its contract since June 1, contrasting with other venues that leveraged the Super Bowl to secure agreements earlier in the year.
During the strike, operations at the hotel continued with the aid of temporary staff and other department personnel covering for the absent workers. Notably, the presence of celebrities like Kendall and Kylie Jenner at the hotel's Kassi Beach Club did little to sway public opinion, with some guests adjusting their plans in solidarity with the strikers.
Union leaders emphasized the importance of fair compensation, especially in light of financial challenges posed by recent renovations and changes in ownership at Virgin Hotels. The strike is set to conclude early Sunday morning, with further negotiations scheduled for the following Tuesday.
