Las Vegas Gas Prices

⛽ Gas Prices in Nevada Rise, Remain Above National Average

Nevada is currently experiencing higher-than-average gas prices compared to the rest of the country, with regular gasoline averaging $4.56 per gallon, the fourth highest in the U.S., according to AAA. This represents an increase from last month's average of $4.45 and is significantly higher than last year's average of $4.25. Diesel prices are also up, averaging $4.13 per gallon.

Despite a recent drop in oil prices, which fell to the upper $70s per barrel—a nearly $10 decrease from two weeks ago—AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross suggests that gas prices may remain relatively stable in the near future. The highest gas prices in Nevada are found in Washoe, Pershing, and Mineral counties, while the lowest prices are in Elko, Lander, White Pine, and Nye counties.

In comparison, neighboring states such as Oregon, Idaho, Utah, and Arizona are reporting lower gas prices. Only California, Hawaii, and Washington have higher average prices than Nevada. The record high for regular gas in Nevada was $5.67 per gallon in June 2022, with diesel reaching a peak of $6.04.

🏐 Panthers Sweep to Victory: Palo Verde Claims Class 5A Boys Volleyball Championship

The Palo Verde Panthers boys volleyball team, under the guidance of coach Phil Clarke, captured their fifth Class 5A state championship, setting a new state record. In a decisive match at Sunrise Mountain, the Panthers swept Coronado with scores of 25-16, 25-21, and 25-22.

This victory was especially sweet as it avenged their loss in last year's championship match against Shadow Ridge. Clarke, who has now achieved 400 career wins, praised his team for their consistent focus throughout the season and their determination to win the championship.

Key players for Palo Verde included Dylan Ho, who led the team with 13 kills, and Cole Manning, who added 12 kills. Senior setter Blake Madsen played a crucial role with 30 assists. The Panthers showcased their resilience and teamwork, particularly in crucial moments when they overturned tied scores in the second and third sets to secure their win.

This title is Palo Verde’s fifth under Clarke’s leadership, further cementing his legacy as the state’s all-time wins leader in boys volleyball.

Presidential Debate Showdown: Biden and Trump Set for June and September Face-Offs

President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump have agreed to two campaign debates, one in June and another in September. The first debate is scheduled for June 27 and will be hosted by CNN. This decision follows Biden's refusal to participate in debates organized by the Commission on Presidential Debates, which has been responsible for such events for over three decades.

While both candidates quickly agreed on the dates, significant disagreements remain over the details, including the choice of moderators, locations, and rules. Biden's team has proposed excluding third-party candidates from the debates and has suggested that media outlets directly organize them.

Trump has expressed his preference for a larger live audience and has challenged Biden to more than the agreed two debates. He has also suggested holding one of the debates at a large venue, noting that earlier debates would benefit voters.

The disagreement extends to the involvement of the Commission on Presidential Debates. Both campaigns have expressed dissatisfaction with how the commission managed past debates, particularly the enforcement of rules and the timing of the debates relative to early voting.

🚗 Motional Suspends Las Vegas Self-Driving Operations, Cuts 129 Jobs

Motional, a joint venture between Aptiv and Hyundai Motor Group, is suspending its commercial self-driving car services in Las Vegas and laying off 129 employees. The company, which had been partnering with Lyft and Uber since 2018 for autonomous ride-hailing services, cited the need for more favorable unit economics before it can resume these operations.

The layoffs are part of a broader reduction in force that affects over 550 employees nationwide, representing about 40% of Motional's workforce. These changes are in line with a strategic shift announced by Motional's President and CEO Karl Iagnemma. The company plans to focus more on developing its core driverless technology while scaling back near-term commercial deployments and other ancillary activities.

This decision impacts a significant portion of the staff at the Las Vegas facility near Harry Reid International Airport, where Motional previously reported having over 350 local employees. The autonomous rides in Las Vegas, which included a safety driver, were primarily within the resort corridor. Despite the suspension of commercial services, Motional will continue its research and development efforts.
