๐ Las Vegas Teacher Arrested for Alleged Student Abuse at Shenker Academy
Summerlin has been shaken by a scandal involving a teacher named Eryka Westover. This 33-year-old educator was arrested on Friday after being accused of abusing a student. The Metropolitan Police Department started looking into the matter after a report was filed on April 1, claiming that a student had been mistreated at Shenker Academy, which is near Lake Mead and Rampart boulevards.
Westover was subsequently booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a felony charge of child abuse or neglect. As part of her bail conditions, she is not allowed to be near Shenker Academy. The authorities are encouraging anyone with information or who knows of other victims to contact the Metro abuse and neglect section or Crime Stoppers.
It's a sobering reminder of the importance of vigilance in our schools and the need to protect our most vulnerable members of society. Let's hope that justice is served and that the truth comes to light.

๐ฐ Mirage Closure Set for July, Reopening as Hard Rock with 6,000 Staff
Well, it seems like the iconic Mirage is about to undergo a radical transformation into the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas. This metamorphosis is set to be completed by the spring of 2027, and it promises to be quite a spectacle. Imagine a nearly 700-foot guitar-shaped hotel tower soaring above the Las Vegas Strip โ it's like a rock 'n' roll dream come true!
But with great change comes great responsibility, and the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is stepping up to the plate. They're planning to employ a whopping 6,000 workers, which is double the current staff of the Mirage. That's a lot of new jobs for the Las Vegas community, and it's certainly a welcome change in an industry that has seen its fair share of ups and downs.
However, this transformation isn't without its challenges. The Mirage will be closing its doors on July 17, 2024, which means its 3,000 employees will be affected. But fear not, for the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is not leaving them high and dry. They're offering job fairs with major resorts and potential opportunities at other Hard Rock properties. Plus, the company is providing a generous $80 million in severance packages to help ease the transition for those affected.
The renovation itself is no small feat, creating over 2,500 construction jobs. It's like a symphony of hard hats and hammers, all working together to bring the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas to life.
For those of you with reservations beyond July 14, don't fret. The Hard Rock Las Vegas website will have all the information you need to get a refund or make new arrangements. So, while the Mirage may be closing its doors, the future of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas is looking bright โ and very, very tall.
๐ฒ Allegiant Stadium Seeks 1,500 Part-timers for Raiders Games and More
Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas is set to host a significant hiring event next week, aimed at filling 1,500 part-time positions to support its diverse lineup of events, including Las Vegas Raiders games and other major gatherings. The event, scheduled for May 22 and 23, will offer potential employees the chance to interview for roles in various departments such as retail, food service, security, ticketing, guest services, custodial services, and parking.
Neumiia Duncan-Reed, the Vice President of Human Resources and Community Affairs at Allegiant Stadium, emphasized the importance of this recruitment drive, noting that it reflects the stadium's commitment to building a dedicated and enthusiastic team. The hiring drive is particularly crucial as the stadium not only hosts NFL games and UNLV football but also major concerts and private events.
The event is part of an ongoing effort to maintain a robust workforce; in 2023, the stadium achieved a 70% employee retention rate. This high retention rate is attributed to the positive work environment and the sense of community among the staff. Duncan-Reed highlighted the unity and camaraderie that come with being part of the stadium's team as key factors in their retention success.
Applicants are encouraged to bring their resumes and come prepared for onsite interviews, which will take place directly on the field at Allegiant Stadium. This recruitment initiative is a great opportunity for those looking to be involved in the exciting atmosphere of one of Las Vegas's premier venues.
