Southern Nevada Memorial Day Weekend Forecast: Pleasant and Mild with No Triple Digits

Southern Nevadans can look forward to a pleasant Memorial Day weekend, with temperatures staying below the triple digits, as per the National Weather Service's forecast. The weather is expected to be mild and sunny, with only a slight disruption on Friday due to wind gusts.

On Thursday, the central Las Vegas Valley is expected to see a high near 92 degrees, accompanied by light winds and a clear sky. Friday, however, will experience wind gusts up to 30 mph during the day and 26 mph at night, with a high near 90 degrees.

"It's a weak trough going through to our north and will make some wind and knock the temperatures down a few degrees maybe," said weather service meteorologist Clay Morgan, explaining the slight disruption in the otherwise pleasant weather.

Saturday is expected to be mild with a high near 86 degrees, while Sunday and Memorial Day will see highs of 92 and 96 degrees respectively. The normal temperature for this time of year in Las Vegas is 91 degrees.

As we move into June, the forecast predicts a high of 99 degrees on Tuesday. "After Saturday we should be able to see how hot and for how long," Morgan said, hinting at the possibility of normal temperatures for the end of May. "Right now it doesn’t look like anything ridiculously hot; just kind of normal for the end of May."

♠ Golden Knights' Marchessault to Kick Off 55th World Series of Poker with Ceremonial 'Shuffle Up and Deal

Golden Knights right wing Jonathan Marchessault is set to make a special appearance at the 55th World Series of Poker (WSOP) to announce the ceremonial "shuffle up and deal" to kick off the event. The series, which begins on Tuesday, will take place at Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas. The $10,000 buy-in Main Event No-limit Hold’em World Championship is scheduled to start on July 3.

Marchessault will also participate in the WSOP’s new $5,000 buy-in Champions Reunion No-limit Hold’em Freezeout tournament. This event is unique in that it features a bounty format, where players who knock out a former Main Event champion will receive an automatic entry into the 2024 WSOP Main Event.

This will be Marchessault's first WSOP event, but he is no stranger to the game of poker. He is known throughout the Knights locker room as a prolific card player. Marchessault had a standout season with the Golden Knights, scoring a career-high 42 goals and becoming the franchise's all-time leader in several offensive categories, including goals, assists, and points. As of now, he is set to become a free agent on July 1. The Golden Knights were eliminated from the NHL playoffs in the first round by the Dallas Stars.

The WSOP is one of the most prestigious events in the poker world, featuring a total of 99 live events this summer. The series is a major draw for poker players from around the world and is known for its high stakes and intense competition.

Federal Antitrust Lawsuit Targets Ticketmaster, Live Nation's Control Over Live Events

The U.S. Justice Department, along with 30 state and district attorneys general, has filed a significant antitrust lawsuit against Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation Entertainment, accusing them of monopolistic practices in the live events industry. The lawsuit, filed in Manhattan federal court, alleges that Live Nation engages in unlawful conduct that inflates prices for fans and stifles competition, hurting artists, smaller promoters, and venue operators. The Justice Department highlights practices like long-term contracts that prevent venues from choosing rival ticketing services and retaliation against those who don't comply with Ticketmaster's terms. Live Nation, which dominates the market with exclusive partnerships at major venues, denies these accusations, claiming their market share is due to superior services. This lawsuit is part of the Biden administration's broader effort to tackle corporate monopolies.

😋 Ortikia Mediterranean Grill: A Fiery Fusion of Greek and Mediterranean Flavors in Green Valley Ranch

The new Ortikia Mediterranean Grill at Green Valley Ranch is set to make a grand entrance with its unique blend of fire and ice, offering a culinary experience that promises to be as exciting as discovering a beachside fish shack or an upscale dinner party. The restaurant, which opens its doors on June 3, is a brainchild of the culinary team behind Blue Ribbon Restaurants, founded in 1992 in New York City by chefs Bruce and Eric Bromberg.

The centerpiece of this Mediterranean haven is an open kitchen that features a live-fire grill and rotisserie, a wood-burning oven, and a display of chilled fresh seafood, all overseen by a copper hood. This setup allows for a unique dining experience where patrons can enjoy the action on the line while seated at the adjacent seating area.

Ortikia's menu is a delightful fusion of Greek-inspired dishes and Mediterranean flavors. The seafood counter and crudo bar offer a variety of fresh options, while the htipiti (red pepper and feta spread) and spanakopita spinach pie provide a taste of traditional Greek cuisine. The salt-baked lavraki (Mediterranean sea bass) with lemon and capers and the spicy harissa-marinated ortikia with lemon rice add a spicy kick to the menu. For those who prefer a hearty meal, the grilled 28-ounce rib steak is sure to satisfy.

The restaurant, seating about 170, is designed to offer a unique dining experience. The bar and lounge area, with its elevated banquette seating, provides views to the dining room and kitchen, creating an intimate yet lively atmosphere. The branched globe chandeliers and a colorful mural featuring a quail and an octopus add to the ambiance, while the curving ceiling recalls the rooftops of Greece.

Ortikia joins the recently opened Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill at Green Valley Ranch, as part of Station Casinos' ongoing partnership with Blue Ribbon Restaurants. The restaurant will be open from 5 to 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 5 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

💲 Allegiant Stadium Seeks 1,500 Part-timers for Raiders Games and More

Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas is set to host a significant hiring event next week, aimed at filling 1,500 part-time positions to support its diverse lineup of events, including Las Vegas Raiders games and other major gatherings. The event, scheduled for May 22 and 23, will offer potential employees the chance to interview for roles in various departments such as retail, food service, security, ticketing, guest services, custodial services, and parking.

Neumiia Duncan-Reed, the Vice President of Human Resources and Community Affairs at Allegiant Stadium, emphasized the importance of this recruitment drive, noting that it reflects the stadium's commitment to building a dedicated and enthusiastic team. The hiring drive is particularly crucial as the stadium not only hosts NFL games and UNLV football but also major concerts and private events.

The event is part of an ongoing effort to maintain a robust workforce; in 2023, the stadium achieved a 70% employee retention rate. This high retention rate is attributed to the positive work environment and the sense of community among the staff. Duncan-Reed highlighted the unity and camaraderie that come with being part of the stadium's team as key factors in their retention success.

Applicants are encouraged to bring their resumes and come prepared for onsite interviews, which will take place directly on the field at Allegiant Stadium. This recruitment initiative is a great opportunity for those looking to be involved in the exciting atmosphere of one of Las Vegas's premier venues. For more information, visit here.
