๐จโ๐ซ Shenker Academy Head Resigns After Teacher Arrested for Child Abuse
The head of Shenker Academy in Summerlin has resigned following the arrest of a teacher accused of abusing a student, according to an internal email. Eryka Westover, 33, was arrested on May 17 and charged with felony child abuse or neglect. Her bail conditions require her to stay away from Shenker Academy, a preschool and kindergarten program licensed through the Clark County School District.
Shenker Academy is a subsidiary of the Temple Sinai congregation. In an email sent on May 24, Roy Berger, president of the Temple Sinai board of trustees, announced the resignation of Sharon Knafo, head of the school. "We appreciate all of the contributions that Dr. Knafo made in helping Shenker Academy become the premier institution for early childhood education in Las Vegas," Berger wrote.
During the search for a new head of school, Beth Miller, former CEO of the now-closed Solomon Day School, will serve as interim head of school.

๐ฉ๐ Aces Fall to Atlanta Dream in Close Contest, 78-74
The Las Vegas Aces experienced their second defeat of the season on Friday, falling 78-74 to the Atlanta Dream at Gateway Center Arena. Despite a strong performance by Aโja Wilson, who scored 28 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and blocked four shots, the Aces (4-2) couldn't hold onto their lead, allowing Atlanta (4-2) to stage an 11-2 run in the fourth quarter. This game also marked the end of Wilsonโs five-game double-double streak to start the season.
Kelsey Plum contributed 19 points and Jackie Young added 15 for the Aces. Allisha Gray led the Dream with 24 points, four rebounds, and three assists, making crucial baskets in the fourth quarter.
Key Takeaways from the Game:
Offensive Struggles:
The Aces had a tough time offensively, with Coach Becky Hammon describing their play as โhodgepodge, ugly-ass basketball.โ The team failed to connect on their first six shots and committed two turnovers as the Dream started with a 7-0 run. Wilson was the only Aces player to make field goals in the first quarter, resulting in a narrow 11-10 lead.
Discipline Issues:
The Aces' lack of discipline resulted in frequent fouls, sending the Dream to the free-throw line 29 times, where they made 26 shots (89.7%). In contrast, the Aces were 18-for-20 (90%) from the line. The physical nature of the game led to tensions, notably between Jackie Young and Aerial Powers, culminating in technical fouls for both players.
Increased Effort from Opponents:
The Aces are experiencing increased competition from opponents, a testament to their success as back-to-back champions. As Kelsey Plum noted, the Acesโ losses are significant news due to their high standards and past accomplishments.

Jennifer Lopez has canceled her 2024 North American tour, representatives for Live Nation confirmed to The Associated Press. Lopez decided to take time off to be with her children, family, and close friends, making the difficult decision to halt her tour plans.
The tour, intended to support her first solo album in a decade, "This Is Meโฆ Now," and its companion film, was to be her first in five years. It was scheduled to kick off on June 26 in Orlando, Florida, and conclude in Houston on August 31, with a stop in Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Arena on July 20.
Live Nation announced that attendees who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster would receive automatic refunds.
Lopez expressed her regret and sadness to fans via her OntheJLo website and newsletter. "I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down. Please know that I wouldnโt do this if I didnโt feel that it was absolutely necessary," she wrote. She promised to make it up to her fans and expressed her love and appreciation for their support.
"This Is Meโฆ Now" was released earlier this year, marking 20 years since her hit album, "This Is Meโฆ Then." Lopez described the new album as a "miracle" and a "second chance," aiming to capture a significant moment in her life.
