🏀 Cutting-Edge NBA Arena Planned for Las Vegas Strip
AECOM, renowned for designing the Golden 1 Center and the Intuit Dome, has been chosen by developer LVXP to design a new "NBA-ready arena" on the Las Vegas Strip. This announcement was made on Wednesday, signaling a significant development for the area.
The new arena will replace the previously planned All-Net Resort, which was canceled by Clark County Commissioners in November 2023. AECOM’s design team, including Bill Hanway and Dan Meis, will lead the project alongside LVXP architect Paul Steelman.
“Envisioned with cutting-edge technology and modern design at its core, the NBA-ready arena aims to offer an unparalleled experience for fans and visitors,” stated the announcement.
Matthew Crane, AECOM’s chief executive of the U.S. West region, expressed enthusiasm about the project: “We are excited to work with LVXP as they seek to redefine what it means to be a landmark venue. By leveraging our team of multidisciplinary experts, our innovative integrated delivery model, and leading-edge technology, we are well equipped to deliver this world-class facility that reflects the ambitious vision of LVXP.”
The arena will be constructed on a 27-acre site at 2601 S. Las Vegas Blvd., situated between the Fontainebleau and the Sahara Las Vegas. Permits for the project are still pending, and a construction timeline has not yet been announced.

❎ Nevada Supreme Court Approves Voter ID Initiative for 2024 Ballot
An initiative to amend the Nevada Constitution to require voters to show photo identification at the polls can appear on the 2024 ballot, the state Supreme Court ruled on Friday. Organizers must collect just over 100,000 valid signatures by June 26 for the measure to qualify. If passed by voters in 2024 and again in 2026, the initiative would take effect.
The initiative also proposes additional verification for mail ballots, such as requiring the last four digits of a driver’s license or Social Security number.
The Nevada Supreme Court's unanimous decision confirmed a lower court ruling that the ballot measure does not constitute an unfunded mandate and adequately informs voters of its implications.
Key Points:
Signature Requirement: Over 100,000 valid signatures needed by June 26.
Verification for Mail Ballots: Last four digits of a driver’s license or Social Security number required.
Court Ruling: Upheld that the measure is not an unfunded mandate and is sufficiently descriptive.
Background:
Support and Opposition: Republican Governor Joe Lombardo prioritized voter ID laws, but the Democrat-controlled Legislature did not consider the proposal. Progressive groups like Make the Road Nevada oppose the measure.
Campaign Efforts: David Gibbs of Repair the Vote, the political action committee behind the initiative, expressed confidence in meeting the signature deadline through door-to-door outreach and attendance at GOP events.
Statements:
Governor Joe Lombardo: Applauded the ruling.
David Gibbs: Confident in gathering the necessary signatures within the next three weeks.
