🗿 Mystery Monolith Discovered by Las Vegas Police Near Gass Peak Trail

Members of the Metropolitan Police Department's search and rescue team stumbled upon a "mysterious monolith" over the weekend on a trail outside the Las Vegas Valley. The intriguing find occurred near the Gass Peak trail, located to the north of the valley, according to police reports.

Previous Sightings and Similarities

This recent discovery is reminiscent of a similar event in December 2020, when a monolith was found standing under the Fremont Street Experience canopy in downtown Las Vegas. Such monoliths have become a peculiar phenomenon, appearing in various locations across the Western United States and even internationally.

Notable sightings include:

  • Southern Utah: The monolith that ignited the trend, found in a remote desert area.

  • Atascadero, California: A monolith appeared on top of Pine Mountain.

  • Albuquerque, New Mexico: Another monolith was discovered.

  • Piatra Neamț, Romania: An identical structure surfaced in this Romanian city.

These objects bear a striking resemblance to the alien artifacts depicted in Stanley Kubrick’s sci-fi classic "2001: A Space Odyssey." In the film, vast black monoliths are left by extraterrestrials to guide human evolution at critical junctures, a concept detailed by Vox reporter Constance Grady.

Public Fascination and Theories

The appearance of these monoliths has sparked widespread curiosity and numerous theories about their origins and purpose. Some speculate they are art installations, while others consider them elaborate hoaxes or marketing stunts. Regardless of their intent, the monoliths have captured the public's imagination, leading to significant media coverage and online speculation.

Impact and Cultural Significance

The monoliths' similarity to those in "2001: A Space Odyssey" adds a layer of cultural significance. Kubrick’s monoliths symbolize profound shifts in human development, prompting observers to wonder if these real-world counterparts serve a similar purpose. Are they meant to inspire, provoke thought, or simply entertain? The mystery surrounding them only adds to their allure.

Ongoing Investigations

As of now, the origins of the monolith near Gass Peak trail remain unknown. The Metropolitan Police Department has not released further details about the structure, including its material composition or how it might have been transported to such a remote location.

Conclusion

The discovery of another monolith adds to the growing list of mysterious appearances worldwide, continuing to intrigue and puzzle both locals and the global community. Whether an art project, a prank, or something else entirely, these monoliths serve as a fascinating reminder of the unexpected wonders that can emerge in our modern world.

🏈 Micah Alejado Leads Bishop Gorman to National Championship

Bishop Gorman quarterback Micah Alejado set ambitious goals for his senior season, aiming for a national championship. “As a team, we want the national championship,” Alejado declared in August. “That’s been the motto for the four years I’ve been here and long before I came. We want to come out and make a statement. This is the class of 2024’s last season, so we’re trying to go down in the record books and bring that national championship home.”

Alejado and his fellow seniors at Bishop Gorman fulfilled that mission spectacularly. The Gaels finished their season with a perfect 12-0 record, clinching the Class 5A state title and earning the high school football national championship titles from MaxPreps and USA Today, marking the fourth time in the program's history.

Alejado's Stellar Performance

Alejado's performance was crucial to Bishop Gorman's success. He completed an impressive 77.4 percent of his passes, amassing 2,714 yards, 35 touchdowns, and no interceptions throughout the season. His outstanding performance earned him Nevada Preps Boys Athlete of the Year and the Gatorade Nevada football player of the year for the second consecutive year.

“We came in and wanted to bring that national championship back, and we did just that,” Alejado said after the Gaels defeated Liberty 56-11 in the 5A state title game on November 21. “It’s great. We’re on the (national championship) wall with a bunch of great (Bishop Gorman) teams. This team is really special, and it’s a blessing to be able to be a part of it.”

In the state title game, Alejado completed 14 of 17 passes for 255 yards, threw three touchdowns, and ran for another score, demonstrating his prowess and leadership on the field.

“Our legacy speaks for itself. You see the track record,” Alejado noted. “We did everything we said we would do. We came in and brought dominance back to Bishop Gorman. Everyone can see that Gorman is back.”

Key Moments and Leadership

Alejado's leadership was especially evident in a crucial game on September 1 against then-ranked No. 6 Miami Central (Florida). The Gaels were trailing late in the fourth quarter when Alejado orchestrated a five-play, 80-yard touchdown drive, leading his team to a 39-35 come-from-behind win. He completed four passes for 79 yards on that drive, shortly after fumbling the previous offensive possession.

“What can you not say about Micah?” Gaels coach Brent Browner said after the win. “He deserves all the recognition. There’s not a better quarterback. Who else would you take besides him? He’s always big in the big moments. I’m taking that dude every day.”

Future Prospects

A three-time All-Southern Nevada first-team selection, Alejado committed to playing college football at the University of Hawaii. He enrolled early to join the Rainbow Warriors for spring practice, bringing his talents back to his home state.

“This day is definitely one thing you look forward to as a kid, and it’s just great to be able to accomplish it,” Alejado said at Bishop Gorman’s signing day in December. “For my family all back at home, they’re going to be able to watch me play again. Being able to play ball there for the university and put on for the state, I’m really excited.”

Alejado's remarkable high school career sets a high standard for future athletes at Bishop Gorman, and his transition to college football promises to be just as exciting.

It is going to be incredible!”

David Grutman of Groot Hospitality, who booked Guetta for LIV, added, “LIV is known as the stage for the top DJs and performers. David Guetta’s international reach elevates that stage to new heights.”

🎰 Las Vegas Tops List as Most Expensive U.S. Travel Destination Amid Rising Costs

A recent study by Forbes Advisor examining inflation's impact on travel costs has found that Las Vegas has become one of the most expensive places to visit in the United States. The study highlighted significant increases in hotel accommodations, car rentals, and daily meal expenses over the last five years.

Rising Travel Costs

Forbes Advisor's analysis revealed substantial price hikes in various aspects of travel to Las Vegas:

  • Hotel Accommodations: Prices have surged by 47 percent. As of the last quarter of 2023, the average cost of a hotel room was $252 per night.

  • Car Rentals: Rates have increased by 61 percent, with rental car prices averaging around $77 per day.

  • Daily Meals: Costs for meals have risen by 14 percent, with the average expenditure for three meals per day reaching approximately $98.

These increases place Las Vegas at the top of the list for the most significant rise in travel costs among major U.S. destinations.

Comparative Destinations

Other cities experiencing notable increases in travel expenses include Tucson, Arizona; Sacramento, California; New Orleans, Louisiana; and San Antonio, Texas. Each of these destinations has seen similar trends in rising costs, although Las Vegas leads the pack.

Methodology and Data Sources

The Forbes Advisor study utilized data from several reputable sources, including the Business Travel News Corporate Travel Index, Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and AAA. The 75 largest cities in the U.S. were scored based on nine weighted metrics, with the most emphasis placed on five-year changes in hotel, meal, and car rental prices. Additional factors considered in the study included domestic airfare, gasoline prices, and costs for specific tiers of travel.

Airfare Trends

While most travel costs have increased, there is a slight silver lining for visitors to Las Vegas. The study found that the average cost of airfare to or from Las Vegas has decreased by 5.5 percent. This reduction in airfare can help offset some of the higher costs associated with staying in the city. Becky Pokora, a writer for Forbes Advisor, noted, "Locals can take advantage of the same lower airfares when leaving Las Vegas to vacation elsewhere."

Industry Response and Economic Impact

The study comes at a time when both travelers and businesses are acutely aware of inflation's effects. Major casino companies in Las Vegas have reported increased revenues attributed to rising average daily room rates. However, some industry analysts caution that the higher prices may deter lower-value travelers, potentially leading to a market slowdown. These analysts suggest that as some visitors respond to high costs by spending less during their stays, the overall economic impact on Las Vegas could be mixed.

Conclusion

Las Vegas remains a premier travel destination, but its rising costs are making it an increasingly expensive option for visitors. As travelers and businesses navigate these changes, the long-term effects on the city's tourism industry will continue to unfold. While the decrease in airfare offers some relief, the substantial increases in accommodation, car rental, and meal costs present significant challenges for those planning to visit the entertainment capital of the world.
