Economic Impact:

  • Direct Spending: The four-day weekend is projected to generate $418.7 million in direct spending.

  • Indirect Spending: The total indirect spending is estimated at $692.9 million.

Belarmino highlighted a shift in the visitor profile post-pandemic, with tourists now having higher disposable incomes, potentially leading to increased spending.

Hotel Occupancy and Rates:

  • Room Rates: Average room reservations begin at about $321.90 for the Thursday to Sunday period, excluding taxes and resort fees. Rates can fluctuate based on demand.

Air Travel: Harry Reid International Airport expects 430,000 arriving passengers between Wednesday and Sunday, according to spokesperson Monika Bertaki.

🥊 UFC 303: Pereira and Prochazka Step Up to Headline After McGregor Injury

UFC president Dana White revealed that light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira and former champion Jiri Prochazka stepped in on short notice to headline UFC 303 after Conor McGregor pulled out due to a toe injury. Pereira was on a sponsor tour in Australia visiting children’s hospitals, and Prochazka was in a meditation chamber when they received the call to fight.

Immediate Response:

  • Dana White praised both fighters for their willingness to jump into the main event. Pereira immediately began training, and Prochazka, informed by his coach while in meditation, accepted the fight as if guided by destiny.

Revised Fight Card:

  • Main Event: Alex Pereira vs. Jiri Prochazka rematch.

  • Co-Main Event: Featherweight contenders Diego Lopes vs. Brian Ortega.

  • Additional Fights: Michael “Venom” Page and Ian Machado Garry will open the pay-per-view portion of the card.

Impact of McGregor's Withdrawal: McGregor’s absence due to a training injury disrupted the initial lineup. Despite this, the reworked card has garnered positive feedback:

  • Cub Swanson: Believes the revised card is better than the original, despite potential backlash from McGregor’s fans.

  • Andre Fili: Respects McGregor but is excited about the replacement fights.

UFC 303 Highlights:

  • Economic and Marketing Adjustments: Dana White commended his team for their swift changes to posters, commercials, and marketing strategies.

  • Potential Gate Record: White is optimistic that the event might still break the T-Mobile Arena gate record.

  • Thrilling Main Event: The Pereira-Prochazka rematch promises to be another exciting bout after Pereira’s knockout win for the vacant belt in November.

Fighter Perspectives:

  • Pereira: Not critical of McGregor’s withdrawal, noting that pain and circumstances vary for each fighter. He fought with a broken toe due to his current career stage, acknowledging that McGregor’s situation might warrant different decisions.

Pay-Per-View Details:

  • Start Time: Pay-per-view begins at 7 p.m., with preliminary fights streaming from 3 p.m. and moving to ESPN at 5 p.m.

  • Exciting Bouts: Lopes and Ortega, both coming off stoppage wins, are highlighted as potential candidates for "fight of the night."

Conclusion: UFC 303 promises an action-packed night with Pereira and Prochazka headlining in a highly anticipated rematch, ensuring fans an exciting experience despite the absence of Conor McGregor.

🎰 Mirage Offers Discounted Rates Ahead of Mid-July Closure

Fans of The Mirage have just over three weeks to book a stay at the iconic hotel before it closes. The hotel will shut its doors on July 14, followed by the entire property on July 17. As a result, room rates for the final days of operation are notably lower compared to the previous summer, as indicated by Wall Street analyst reports and the hotel’s booking website.

Room Rates and Availability:

  • Midweek Rates: Starting at approximately $106 per night.

  • Weekend Rates: Around $300 per night.

  • Note: Prices exclude taxes and resort fees.

These lower rates come during a period that includes Independence Day, typically a high-travel time, and some early closures of property features, such as Cirque du Soleil’s “The Beatles Love” on July 7.

Market Dynamics: Room rates are influenced by supply, demand forecasts, time of year, and major events. Truist Securities analyst Barry Jonas noted that The Mirage's closure could benefit competing properties by reducing market supply, though the lower demand indicated by decreased room rates (down 46% in June and 44% in July year-over-year) might mitigate this effect.

“We note the closing of The Mirage on July 14th could drive some upside to Strip properties, though June and July room rates for The Mirage have been down (46 percent and 44 percent, year over year) respectively, suggesting low demand for the property as it shuts down,” Jonas wrote in a June 21 report to investors.

Historical Significance: The closure of The Mirage marks the end of an era for the Las Vegas Strip. Designed by Steve Wynn, the hotel-casino opened in November 1989, sparking a megaresort boom that shaped the modern Vegas landscape.

Future Plans: Hard Rock International, which acquired the property from MGM Resorts International in 2022, plans to renovate the existing buildings and construct a 660-foot-tall, guitar-shaped hotel tower near Las Vegas Boulevard. The new Hard Rock Las Vegas is slated to open in spring 2027.

🦹‍♂️ Man Arrested for Trespassing at LVMPD Headquarters, Faces Multiple Charges

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) announced that they are pressing charges against an individual for trespassing at their headquarters on Friday morning.

Incident Details:

  • Time: Around 10 a.m.

  • Suspect: Christopher Egenlauf, 32

  • Description: Egenlauf was wearing a tactical vest with ballistic plates and armed with a knife.

Events Unfolded: LVMPD Deputy Chief Dori Koren, who oversees the Homeland Security and Special Operations Division, provided more details on the incident. Egenlauf was observed attempting to break into a forensic vehicle in a restricted area of the LVMPD headquarters. Officers swiftly responded to the scene, located the suspect, and safely took him into custody without any incident.

Investigation Findings: During the investigation, officers discovered Egenlauf’s vehicle nearby. The vehicle was left running, prompting officers to conduct a thorough sweep of the vehicle and the surrounding area to ensure no hazardous materials or threats were present.

Police Statements: Deputy Chief Koren indicated that evidence suggests Egenlauf intended to harm officers, heightening the severity of the situation.

Charges: The LVMPD is seeking to charge Christopher Egenlauf with multiple offenses, including:

  • Tampering with a Vehicle

  • Attempted Battery with a Deadly Weapon

  • Trespassing

The quick response and thorough investigation by the LVMPD officers ensured the situation was handled safely and efficiently, preventing any potential harm to officers or the public.
