๐ Aces Secure Fifth Consecutive Win with Record-Breaking Attendance
Hours before the Acesโ second meeting with Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, an excited energy filled T-Mobile Arena. The anticipation was palpable, with a lengthy line of fans at the entrance and countless Iowa- and Aces-centric signs inside the building. โWeโre on basketball history watch,โ an Aces staffer remarked as the teams began to warm up.
The back-to-back defending champions defeated the Fever 88-69 on Tuesday, securing their fifth consecutive win. The Aces (11-6) were led by a season-high 34 points from Kelsey Plum. Aโja Wilson contributed 28 points, nine rebounds, and five blocks, while Jackie Young added 15 points and 10 assists.
Record-Breaking Attendance
During the fourth quarter, the Aces announced a new team record with a sellout crowd of 20,366 fans, the largest for a regular-season WNBA game since 1999. The previous franchise-high attendance was 17,406 at T-Mobile Arena during the final regular-season game against the Phoenix Mercury in 2023.
Coach Becky Hammon emphasized that large crowds have become the norm for the Aces. โVegas has been showing up over the past two or three years, so Iโm not surprised. We were close to filling up this building last year,โ Hammon said. โBut it was just pretty loud in there (tonight). Iโve always said, the more the merrier โ whoever youโre coming to watch.โ
Game Highlights
Kelsey Mitchell scored 23 points for Indiana (8-13), and Aliyah Boston had 18 points and 11 rebounds. Clark, Indiana's star rookie from Iowa, was surrounded by photographers as she attempted to sign autographs before the game. She recorded 13 points, 11 assists, and six rebounds in the loss.
Key Takeaways from the Game
1. Back in Form Despite securing a double-digit win over the Washington Mystics in their previous outing, the Aces were not satisfied with their performance. The Mystics' strategy had limited Wilson and Plum, ending Wilsonโs WNBA-record streak of 20 consecutive games with more than 20 points. By the end of the second quarter on Tuesday, Wilson had 18 points.
โWe used this game to get back to the flow of us,โ Wilson said. She acknowledged that the team was โin a funkโ without Chelsea Gray. After losing six games during Gray's absence due to a lower left leg injury, the team is 5-0 since her return. Hammon highlighted the team's improved communication and trust, which have enhanced their defense. Wilson joked about teammate Kiah Stokesโ season-high 12 rebounds, saying, โShe stole my rebound. Sheโs a thief.โ
Plum noted that there had been some external doubt from fans and media during the team's rough patch. โThere were a lot of people waiting to jump off the ship just because we didnโt win a couple games,โ she said.
2. Plumโs MVP Vote Plumโs performance saw her surpass a milestone of 3,000 career points, but she used her postgame media availability to praise Wilson. โYou know she really averages 28 a game,โ Plum said. โEveryoneโs doubling and tripling and game-planning, and it really doesnโt matter. โฆ We take it for granted, but weโre watching one of the greatest players of all time in front of our eyes.โ Plum added that MVP voting should be unanimous in Wilsonโs favor this year.
3. All-Star Power The WNBA announced its All-Star rosters an hour before the Aces and Fever took the court. Seven All-Stars were on the floor Tuesday. Indianaโs Clark (700,735 votes) and Boston (618,680) finished first and second in fan voting, respectively, and Mitchell was selected by league coaches. Wilson was third in voting with 607,300 votes, and she is one of four Aces โ along with Gray, Plum, and Young โ who have automatic bids to the All-Star Game as members of the U.S. team for the upcoming Paris Olympics. Wilson joked that sheโd rather rest during the All-Star break to prepare for her second Olympics.
Conclusion
The Aces' dominant win over the Indiana Fever, highlighted by record-breaking attendance and standout performances, underscores their status as a powerhouse in the WNBA. As the team continues to excel, both on and off the court, the support from their growing fan base remains a crucial element of their success.

๐ Airbnb Enforces Anti-Party Measures in Nevada for Fourth of July Weekend
Airbnb announced Tuesday that it will enforce strict measures to prevent unauthorized parties in Nevada rentals during the upcoming Fourth of July weekend. The short-term rental company will block certain one- and two-night reservations for entire home listings during the four-day holiday period.
Anti-Party Measures
This initiative is part of Airbnb's ongoing effort to curb disruptive gatherings that can cause significant disturbances to neighborhoods. The company first tested its anti-party program during Memorial Day weekend in 2022, and it has since implemented the policy nationwide. During previous Memorial Day and Fourth of July weekends, about 1,200 people in Nevada were deterred from booking properties due to these restrictions.
Booking Restrictions
Airbnb's anti-party policy assesses several factors related to a guest's account and booking attempts to identify higher-risk incidents. These factors include:
History of positive reviews or lack thereof
Proximity of the guestโs residence to the rental listing
Last-minute booking attempts
Attestation from guests that they understand Airbnb's ban on parties
Law Enforcement Collaboration
To support this initiative, Airbnb has established a dedicated channel for law enforcement, providing a specialized response team to handle any issues that arise. This channel ensures swift and effective communication with authorities if unauthorized parties are reported.
Broader Application
Airbnb occasionally applies these heightened anti-party measures to other holidays known for increased gatherings, such as Halloween. The company's proactive stance aims to maintain the safety and tranquility of neighborhoods, especially during peak holiday seasons.
Community Impact
By blocking high-risk bookings and working closely with law enforcement, Airbnb hopes to minimize the negative impact of unauthorized parties on local communities. This initiative reflects the company's commitment to being a responsible platform that prioritizes the well-being of both hosts and neighbors.
Conclusion
Airbnbโs decision to block certain bookings during the Fourth of July weekend is part of its broader strategy to prevent unauthorized parties and maintain community harmony. By implementing these measures, the company aims to ensure a safer and more enjoyable holiday experience for all.
๐ถ How to Keep Your Pets Safe and Calm During Fourth of July Fireworks
Fourth of July fireworks can be extremely stressful for pets. With some preparation, pet owners can help their furry friends stay calm and safe during the celebrations.
Understand Past Behavior
Amy Joshua, a dog coordinator with the Las Vegas Valley Humane Society, advises pet owners to review their pets' past holiday behavior. "Pet owners should prepare their pet by reviewing past holiday behavior," she says, pointing to New Yearโs Eve firework celebrations as an example.
Create a Comfortable Environment
Joshua suggests creating a cozy, secure space for pets, especially those that are new or get anxious. "A soft, cozy space should be prepared for them. Dog beds, favorite toys, and blankets create a safe and familiar haven," she recommends.
Stay Home with Your Pet
Johnna Holland, a dog trainer with Smarty Paws Canine Training, emphasizes the importance of staying home with your pet. "My best piece of advice is to ride out the storm... Your dogโs safety should mean everything to you. If you have to sacrifice one night out with friends to stay home, that ensures that your dog doesnโt get out," she says.
Microchip Your Pet
Joshua highlights that more pets become lost on the Fourth of July than any other holiday. She urges pet owners to get their pets microchipped and ensure the contact information is up-to-date. "This is to ensure their pet gets returned to them as soon as possible if it comes to a rescue or shelter," she explains.
Plan Ahead
Holland suggests pet owners should start preparing their pets at least six months in advance by setting goals for socialization and desensitization to loud sounds. Gradually exposing dogs to louder environments can help. "Start with a trip to a coffee shop to get dogs used to loud human movements and progress to louder places," she advises. Even simple actions like clanging pots and pans together in the kitchen can help.
Consider Medication
For pets that need extra help, medication is an option. However, Holland notes that medications often take several weeks to be effective. "A lot of medications, whether it be CBD or a prescribed sedative from your veterinarian, take a couple of weeks to really take effect and build a chemical baseline within the body," she explains.
Key Takeaways
Both Holland and Joshua emphasize that preparation is crucial to ensure pets have a safe and anxiety-free Fourth of July. By understanding past behavior, creating a comfortable environment, staying home with your pet, microchipping, planning ahead, and considering medication, pet owners can help their pets cope with the stress of fireworks.
