🌤 Summerlin South, Las Vegas 10-Day Weather Forecast

Las Vegas Gas Prices

💹 Summerlin's Median Household Income Surpasses Las Vegas Valley Average

The master-planned community of Summerlin boasts a median household income significantly higher than the overall Las Vegas Valley, according to recent data from Applied Analysis. The statistics reveal that the median household income in Summerlin is $100,579, compared to $68,275 in the valley.

Income Disparities and Professional Demographics

Approximately 6.3 percent of Summerlin residents earn $500,000 or more, a stark contrast to the valley’s average of 1.7 percent. The data also show that about 77 percent of Summerlin's population holds “white-collar” jobs, compared to 55 percent for the entire Las Vegas Valley. The majority of these professionals (67 percent) are employed at private, for-profit companies. The top three fields among Summerlin residents are management (16 percent), health care practitioner/technician (10.5 percent), and business/financial operations (8.1 percent).

Factors Contributing to Affluence

Brian Gordon, a principal with Applied Analysis, explains that affluent families are increasingly drawn to master-planned communities like Summerlin due to their comprehensive amenities, well-thought-out development patterns, and the overall community atmosphere.

“With about a third of Summerlin’s residents holding a bachelor’s degree or higher, educational attainment reaches more than two times the broader Southern Nevada market,” Gordon said. “The profile of Summerlin residents and local housing dynamics have also resulted in higher overall incomes, which stands at about one and a half times the Las Vegas area. Supporting the premium income levels in Summerlin is a strong presence of professions in management, health care, business, finance, legal and other professional roles.”

Educational Attainment and Workforce Participation

Summerlin boasts a higher percentage of residents with bachelor’s degrees or higher education (30.4 percent) compared to the valley (12.6 percent). Additionally, Summerlin has a higher rate of residents who are not currently in the labor force (42.4 percent) compared to the valley's 36.3 percent.

Comparative Income Data

Data from commercial real estate brokerage Colliers, which includes The Lakes with Summerlin in the same submarket, show that the southwest Las Vegas Valley has the highest median household income in the region. The first-quarter apartment market report indicates that the median annual household income in the southwest valley is $88,423, surpassing Henderson’s median income of $86,682. However, in the first quarter of 2023, these figures were slightly higher at $90,531 for the Southwest and $92,356 for Henderson.

Summary

Summerlin continues to attract affluent families and professionals due to its high-quality amenities and strong community feel. The community’s higher educational attainment and concentration of white-collar jobs contribute significantly to its elevated median household income, making it one of the wealthiest areas in the Las Vegas Valley.

🃏 UFC’s Colby Covington Battles in WSOP Main Event

In the UFC octagon, former interim welterweight champion Colby Covington must decipher his opponent’s strategy and adapt quickly. At the poker table, Covington employs similar skills, adjusting his game plan based on his opponents’ moves and staying mentally sharp under pressure.

Covington's Poker Journey

Covington participated in Day 2ABC of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event at Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas on Sunday. He compared poker to fighting, noting the importance of maintaining composure and mental fortitude.

“Just like fighting, in poker you can’t let your emotions play into it,” Covington said during the first break. “It’s a mental fight out there. There’s a lot of math involved and a lot of skill and being good under pressure. I feel like I thrive in those situations.”

The $10,000 buy-in No-limit Hold’em World Championship continues on Monday with Day 2D. WSOP officials reported 9,288 entrants at the start of play Sunday, and with registration open until approximately 4:40 p.m. Monday, the field could approach 10,000, making it one of the largest in history.

Early Poker Career

Covington began playing online poker during his time on the Iowa wrestling team in the 2008-09 season. He transitioned to live tournaments, achieving several small cashes at events in Florida. His notable victory came in 2022 when he won the $1,100 buy-in Pot Limit Omaha Eight or Better event at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open, earning almost $26,000. According to Hendon Mob Poker Database, Covington has accumulated nearly $213,000 in live tournament earnings.

WSOP Main Event Experience

This year marks Covington’s third attempt at the WSOP Main Event. His previous attempts saw early exits, including being eliminated in the first hour of his debut when his kings ran into aces. Last year, he made it to Day 2.

On Sunday, Covington aimed to improve his performance. After building his stack to nearly 150,000 chips, he faced a setback when he lost a set-over-set hand before the first break, reducing his stack to around the 60,000-chip starting level.

“I’m just going to make the best decisions possible, just like in a fight,” he said.

UFC and Future Plans

Covington (17-4) has not fought since December, following a unanimous decision loss to welterweight champion Leon Edwards at UFC 296 at T-Mobile Arena. He revealed on social media that he had sustained a broken foot during the opening round.

During his recovery, Covington focused on his charity, America’s Champions Foundation, which supports military, law enforcement, and first responder families. Now, he is eyeing a return to the octagon and aims to compete in UFC 306, scheduled for September 14 at Sphere. Covington has been critical of Ian Machado Garry following Garry’s win at UFC 303 and has previously called out Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.

“I’m going to let the company decide who the biggest and best business is,” Covington said. “Whoever they decide is necessary, I want the biggest fights and I’m going to come out and show that the last fight was a fluke. I was injured, and I’m the best welterweight still on Earth right now.”

President Biden to Speak at NAACP and UnidosUS Events in Las Vegas

President Joe Biden is scheduled to make two high-profile appearances in Las Vegas next week, delivering speeches at the 115th NAACP National Convention and the UnidosUS Annual Conference. These visits are part of a broader campaign tour that also includes a stop in Texas, the White House announced Sunday.

Texas Visit and Civil Rights Observance

The president’s campaign journey begins on July 15 in Austin, Texas, where he will participate in the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act at the LBJ Presidential Library. This significant event highlights the enduring impact of the landmark legislation, which played a crucial role in ending segregation and combating racial discrimination in the United States.

Las Vegas Engagements

Following his engagement in Texas, President Biden will travel to Las Vegas later that same day. His first major appearance in the city is set for July 16 at the 115th NAACP National Convention, held at Mandalay Bay. The NAACP convention is one of the most significant gatherings focused on civil rights, social justice, and advocacy for African American communities. Biden's speech is expected to address key issues such as voting rights, economic inequality, and social justice reforms.

On July 17, the president will speak at the UnidosUS Annual Conference at the MGM Grand. UnidosUS, formerly known as the National Council of La Raza, is the largest Latino advocacy organization in the United States. Biden's address is anticipated to focus on immigration reform, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for the Latino community.

Strategic Importance of the Visit

President Biden's visits to these prominent conventions underscore his administration's commitment to civil rights and support for minority communities. Both the NAACP and UnidosUS conferences provide platforms for discussing policies that directly impact African American and Latino populations, key demographics in the upcoming election.

Campaign Implications

Biden's swing through Texas and Nevada is a strategic move in his re-election campaign, aiming to shore up support in states with significant minority populations. His appearances at these influential gatherings are designed to energize his base, highlight his administration's accomplishments, and outline his vision for future progress on civil rights and social justice issues.

Broader Context

The president’s participation in these events also reflects ongoing national conversations about race, equality, and justice. The 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act serves as a reminder of the progress made and the challenges that remain. By engaging directly with communities at the forefront of these issues, Biden aims to reinforce his administration’s commitment to advancing equity and inclusion.

Conclusion

President Joe Biden’s upcoming appearances at the NAACP National Convention and the UnidosUS Annual Conference in Las Vegas are set to be significant moments in his campaign trail. These speeches will not only emphasize his dedication to civil rights and minority communities but also seek to galvanize support as he looks toward the 2024 election. As the nation continues to grapple with issues of equality and justice, Biden's addresses are poised to resonate with audiences seeking continued progress and meaningful change.

🐔Guthrie’s Makes a Comeback in Las Vegas Valley with New Store Opening

Guthrie’s, the popular chain known for its golden fried chicken fingers, is making a comeback in the Las Vegas Valley after nearly a decade. The new store is set to open in July at 3255 Simmons St. in North Las Vegas, marking a significant return for the chain that had a brief stint on West Cheyenne Avenue from fall 2013 to summer 2014.

A Simple Yet Beloved Menu

Guthrie’s menu is celebrated for its simplicity and focus on quality. The offerings include:

  • Bucket of Fried Chicken Fingers: Perfect for sharing, this bucket features Guthrie’s signature crispy chicken fingers.

  • Snack of Chicken Fingers and French Fries: A quick and satisfying meal option.

  • Chicken Finger Sandwich: A delicious sandwich packed with the chain's famous chicken fingers.

  • Box Meal: A comprehensive meal that includes chicken fingers, Texas toast, fries, and coleslaw.

  • Family Meal: A larger meal designed for sharing, complete with a gallon of sweet tea.

Expansion and Growth

The new North Las Vegas location is part of Guthrie’s ambitious expansion plan. In December 2022, the chain announced a 50-unit franchise agreement aimed at expanding its footprint in five Western states, including Nevada. Currently, Guthrie’s operates over 60 locations, primarily in the Southeastern U.S.

Historical Context and Future Prospects

Guthrie’s had previously attempted to establish a presence in the Las Vegas Valley with a location on West Cheyenne Avenue. However, that store was short-lived, closing within a year. Despite this setback, the brand's popularity and the growing demand for quality fried chicken have prompted a renewed effort to capture the Las Vegas market.

The North Las Vegas store represents a strategic move in Guthrie’s broader expansion strategy. The chain’s decision to re-enter the Las Vegas Valley comes at a time when the demand for quick-service restaurants, particularly those specializing in chicken, is on the rise. The new location aims to capitalize on this trend by offering Guthrie’s beloved menu to a new generation of customers.

Customer Anticipation and Community Impact

The return of Guthrie’s has generated significant excitement among local residents and chicken finger enthusiasts. The chain’s focus on delivering high-quality, delicious meals quickly and efficiently aligns with the fast-paced lifestyle of Las Vegas residents.

Additionally, Guthrie’s presence in North Las Vegas is expected to contribute positively to the local economy. The opening of the new store will create jobs and provide a convenient dining option for families, students, and professionals in the area.

Conclusion

Guthrie’s return to the Las Vegas Valley signifies a promising new chapter for the chain. With its simple, yet irresistible menu and strategic expansion plans, Guthrie’s is poised to make a lasting impression on the North Las Vegas community and beyond. As the July opening approaches, local residents eagerly anticipate the opportunity to once again enjoy the golden fried chicken fingers that have made Guthrie’s a beloved name in the quick-service restaurant industry.
