๐ Downtown Summerlin Set for Growth with Howard Hughes' New Development Proposal
Location and Project Overview
Howard Hughes Holdings has unveiled plans for a significant mixed-use development adjacent to the Whole Foods Market retail center currently under construction in Downtown Summerlin. The proposed project will be situated near the intersection of Town Center Drive and Sahara Avenue, encompassing two buildings with a total of 339 apartments and 15,000 square feet of retail space.
Developer's Vision and Amenities
The development aims to cater to the growing demand for convenient and engaging living environments. A spokesperson for Howard Hughes Holdings highlighted the project's focus on providing a modern lifestyle with numerous amenities. These include:
Residential Amenities:
Pool and spa
Fitness center
Barbecue area
Bike storage
Charging stations for electric vehicles
Courtyards for relaxation and socializing
Development Timeline and Future Plans
While the initial proposal covers only about four acres of the 37.6-acre site, there are no current plans for the development of the remaining 33.6 acres. The spokesperson for Howard Hughes Holdings indicated that the project is still in the initial planning stages, and the development timeline has not yet been established. Additionally, it remains unclear how many tenants could potentially occupy the retail space.
Economic and Community Impact
Howard Hughes Holdings envisions the Whole Foods-anchored retail center as a "catalyst" for further development in the Downtown Summerlin area. The retail center, which spans 7.4 acres, is expected to include a Starbucks and other tenants, further enhancing the neighborhood's appeal and economic vitality.
Approval Process
The Clark County Commission is slated to review the design of the project in an upcoming meeting in August. This review will be a crucial step in moving forward with the proposed development, which aims to contribute to the ongoing growth and urbanization of Downtown Summerlin.
Conclusion
Howard Hughes Holdings' new mixed-use project represents a significant addition to Downtown Summerlin, reflecting the area's dynamic growth and the increasing demand for integrated living and retail spaces. As plans progress, the development is poised to enhance the local community with its modern amenities and strategic location next to the forthcoming Whole Foods Market retail center.
๐ A'ja Wilson Becomes Aces' All-Time Leading Scorer in Victory Over Dallas Wings
Aโja Wilson came to Sundayโs postgame news conference with her hair still a little wet. The Acesโ star forward had just become the franchiseโs all-time leading scorer, a milestone celebrated by her teammates pouring bottles of water on her in the locker roomโa fitting tribute on the hottest day in Las Vegas history.
Wilson achieved this milestone by recording 28 points and 10 rebounds in a 104-85 victory over the Dallas Wings at Michelob Ultra Arena. This performance brought her career total to 4,301 points, surpassing Sophia Young-Malcolmโs previous record of 4,300.
Record-Breaking Moment
Wilson, who also holds franchise records for most rebounds (1,855) and free throws made (1,101), clinched the scoring record after making the second of two free throws with 4:14 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Aces called a full timeout shortly after, prompting a standing ovation from the sellout crowd of 10,369.
Young-Malcolm, in attendance as part of the teamโs alumni weekend, shared smiles and a hug with Wilson after the final buzzer. She was one of 45 former Utah Starzz and San Antonio Silver Stars players present at the game.
Reflecting on the Achievement
Wilson expressed gratitude to former Aces coach and president of basketball operations Bill Laimbeer for instilling confidence in her after she was taken first in the 2018 WNBA draft. She also credited current coach Becky Hammon for pushing her and the team to success.
Wilsonโs parents were not present for the game, as she did not realize she was near the record. Instead, her phone was flooded with messages from them while she celebrated with her teammates, particularly Alysha Clark, who celebrated her 37th birthday on Sunday.
โTo have games where we can truly be happy for each other, itโs so pure. I love to see smiles on their faces,โ Wilson said. โThis is what itโs truly all about. This is Aces basketball and culture to us.โ
Team Contributions and Individual Milestones
Kelsey Plum added 23 points for the Aces on Sunday, surpassing 20 points for the fourth consecutive game. Her 3,074 career points rank fourth in franchise history. Just ahead in third is coach Becky Hammon, with 3,474 points, providing her a unique perspective on Wilsonโs accomplishment.
โ(Wilsonโs) just the greatest player to ever put on a Starzz or Aces uniform,โ Hammon said. โItโs not just what sheโs doing for our franchise. Itโs how she moves the needle across the world. Sheโs a special person and a special player. So enjoy it, because sheโs a rarity. Players like her, people like her donโt come around very often.โ
Wilson deflected the compliment, emphasizing the progress of the WNBA and the efforts of those who came before her.
โMan, that means a lot. It really does,โ Wilson said. โBut then I have to always give it to the ones that laid the foundation down before me. The ones that grinded it out. The ones that had to do extra just to get seen a little bit. Now weโre playing on national television, taking charter flights and everything else.โ
Game Highlights and Future Goals
Jackie Young contributed 18 points and five assists, while point guard Chelsea Gray added 12 points. Alysha Clark had six points, seven rebounds, a steal, and a block. Wilson, who has improved every season, showcased her skills by going 3-for-4 from the 3-point line, tying her career high in made 3s in a game.
Odyssey Sims led Dallas (5-17) with 25 points. Arike Ogunbowale, the WNBAโs second-leading scorer behind Wilson, was limited to 13 points on 4-for-13 shooting from the field.
Defensive Improvements and Upcoming Challenges
Coach Hammon acknowledged that the Aces are โgetting thereโ defensively, while Wilson offered a more critical assessment.
โWe are not where we need to be,โ Wilson said. โBut itโs the mere fact that weโre seeing spurts of it, at least we know that itโs doable.โ
The Aces were motivated by the โhurtโ of Fridayโs 98-93 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Sparks. They aim to carry Sundayโs performance into their upcoming three-game road trip, beginning against the Seattle Storm on Wednesday.
โ Which Specialty License Plate Is Most Popular in Nevada?
With over 3 million registered vehicles on the roads of the Silver State, 1.89 million of them sport the standard โHome Means Nevadaโ plate, according to Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles data. Despite its discontinuation in 2017, the former standard license plate option, the Sunset plate, still boasts 424,896 active registrations as of May. The Blue plate, Nevada's standard from 1969 to 1982, has 6,291 active plates, while the Big Horn plate, used from 1983 to 2000, is no longer eligible for registration.
The remaining 1.12 million plates consist of over 30 special designs representing sports teams, universities, organizations, as well as government and other varieties not available to the general public.

University Specialty Plates
In the rivalry between Nevada's major universities, the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) leads with 11,778 registrations, double that of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), which has 5,505 registrations.
Specialty Plate Fees and Charitable Contributions
Specialty plates from the DMV require an additional initial fee on top of the standard registration fee, along with an extra annual fee for renewals. Some plates also contribute a portion of the proceeds to charitable causes or organizations, allowing drivers to support their favorite teams, institutions, or causes while on the road.
Conclusion
Specialty license plates in Nevada offer a unique way for residents to express their individuality, support their favorite teams, or honor significant causes. The Las Vegas commemorative plate currently reigns supreme, reflecting the city's vibrant culture and widespread appeal. Whether through nostalgia, sports fandom, or a love for nature, Nevadans have a wide array of specialty plates to choose from, each with its own story and significance.

The nachos have scooted over. Time for tiki.
