Secret Service Director Takes Responsibility for Security Lapse in Trump Assassination Attempt

In the aftermath of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, United States Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has revealed that the shooter had been identified as a potential threat prior to the attack. However, the assailant managed to open fire before he could be apprehended.

Early Identification and Security Failures

Director Cheatle, in an interview with ABC News, confirmed that the shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was flagged as a "potential person of suspicion" before the incident. "Units started responding to seek that individual out," Cheatle explained. "Unfortunately, with the rapid succession of how things unfolded, by the time that individual was eventually located, they were on the rooftop and were able to fire off at the former president."

Fox News Digital reported that a local law enforcement officer had spotted Crooks carrying a range-finder approximately 30 minutes before the shooting. The officer reported this sighting to state police, raising concerns about whether Crooks was using binoculars to get a better view of the rally. However, moments into Trump's speech, Crooks began shooting.

Accountability and Security Measures

Cheatle took full responsibility for the security lapse, stating, "The buck stops with me. This is an event that should have never happened." She acknowledged her initial reaction to the shooting was one of "shock."

The Secret Service had identified the building Crooks used as a potential security vulnerability but decided against placing personnel on the roof due to safety concerns. "That building in particular has a sloped roof at its highest point. And so, you know, there's a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn't want to put somebody up on a sloped roof. And so, you know, the decision was made to secure the building from inside," Cheatle elaborated.

The Incident and Aftermath

During the rally, Crooks opened fire, striking Trump in the ear and causing injuries to other attendees. The former president, despite considering a delay in his schedule, decided to proceed with his plans, stating he "cannot allow a ‘shooter,’ or potential assassin, to force change to scheduling, or anything else."

Broader Implications

The attempted assassination has cast a shadow over the upcoming 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where Trump is the presumptive nominee. The convention will proceed as planned, with heightened security measures expected in light of the recent events.

Conclusion

The revelation of early identification of the shooter raises questions about the effectiveness of current security protocols for high-profile political events. As investigations continue, the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies will likely review and update their strategies to prevent such incidents in the future.

Las Vegas Police Bolster Security Ahead of President Biden's Visit

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) announced Monday that it is ramping up security efforts in preparation for President Joe Biden’s visit to Las Vegas. The president is expected to land at Harry Reid International Airport on Monday evening.

Coordinated Efforts for Smooth Arrival

Airport spokespersons have confirmed that they are working closely with LVMPD, the White House, and the Secret Service to ensure the president's arrival and subsequent movements are handled seamlessly.

Enhanced Security Measures

LVMPD has committed additional resources to security details throughout the president's visit. This includes increased police presence at all locations Biden plans to visit, including his speaking engagements.

  • Tuesday: Biden will speak at Mandalay Bay for the NAACP’s National Convention.

  • Wednesday: He will address the UNIDOS Annual Conference at the MGM Grand.

Traffic and Safety Advisories

Drivers should anticipate delays on roads that Biden will be traveling on, with closures affecting roadways across the valley. LVMPD advises the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the Southern Nevada Counter Terrorism Center at 702-828-7777.

Support for Republican National Convention

In addition to bolstering local security for Biden’s visit, Nevada is sending law enforcement personnel to assist at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. The North Las Vegas Police Department is dispatching one sergeant and four officers following a request for assistance from the Milwaukee Police Department.

Conclusion

As President Biden's visit brings increased security measures and potential traffic disruptions, the LVMPD and local authorities are working diligently to ensure the safety and smooth operation of all planned events. The public is encouraged to stay alert and cooperate with security protocols to facilitate a successful visit.

🏀 Zaccharie Risacher: Atlanta Hawks' Enigmatic No. 1 Draft Pick Begins NBA Summer League

Zaccharie Risacher might be one of the most intriguing yet enigmatic No. 1 picks to enter the NBA in recent memory. While American fans may primarily recognize him from YouTube highlights, the 6-foot-9 small forward from France is poised to make a significant impact with the Atlanta Hawks.

Adapting to a New Role

The Hawks already have a ball-dominant guard in All-Star Trae Young, which means Risacher will need to adjust quickly to complementing Young’s style. This adjustment process begins in earnest this week at the NBA Summer League.

Strong Perimeter Game

Risacher’s strong perimeter game is expected to be a significant asset. He’s known for coming off screens and being a reliable catch-and-shoot threat from beyond the arc. However, he’ll need to adjust to the NBA’s 3-point line, which is 23 feet, 9 inches from the basket, compared to 20 feet, 6 inches in France’s LNB Elite.

“It’s a little bit farther than in Europe,” Risacher noted. “Doing reps and shooting again and again so I can adapt myself.”

Early Performance and Potential

Last season with LNB Elite’s Bourg, Risacher shot 35 percent from beyond the arc, averaging 10.1 points and 22 minutes per game. He aims to follow in the footsteps of international standouts like Denver’s Nikola Jokic, Dallas’ Luka Doncic, and Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Risacher made an impressive NBA Summer League debut, scoring 18 points in a 94-88 loss to No. 2 pick Alex Sarr and the Washington Wizards at Thomas & Mack Center. He shot 3-for-9 from deep and also recorded five rebounds and two assists. However, he struggled in his next game, a 79-76 loss to the San Antonio Spurs, scoring 11 points and going 1-for-7 from 3-point range.

“I think I did OK but I know I can be better,” Risacher said. “I have to put weight on my body and just keep getting stronger.”

Development and Future Prospects

Risacher’s defense is expected to be a key part of his game, even when his shot isn’t falling. His length and athleticism make him a challenging defender, though he’ll need to add muscle over time. Hawks general manager Landry Fields highlighted Risacher’s resilience and work ethic, emphasizing the importance of his adaptation to the NBA.

“The thing I’ve been impressed by is his ability to take a miss,” Fields said. “It’s a new game, a new system, a new way of playing. For him to step into that more and more is crucial for how he’s going to develop as a player, and we’re going to help him through that.”

Team Expectations

The Hawks, who won 36 games last season, unexpectedly landed the No. 1 pick in the draft despite having just a 3 percent chance. They hope Risacher can be the missing piece to help Young and the team return to contention.

“He’s 19. He’ll be 19 all this season,” Fields added. “We’ve done some new things with our performance staff that we’re really excited about. He’s a worker. I would say look at his body this time next year and you’ll see some transformation.”

As Risacher begins his NBA journey, all eyes will be on how quickly he can adapt and develop into a key player for the Hawks. His unique skill set and potential make him a player to watch in the upcoming season.

📺 Shaquille O’Neal and Gina Rodriguez Co-Host ABC’s 'Lucky 13' from Las Vegas

ABC’s latest game show, “Lucky 13,” is set to make a splash with its unmistakable Las Vegas origins. The show, co-hosted by NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal and Golden Globe-winning actress Gina Rodriguez, debuts at 9 p.m. on Thursday. Viewers are treated to an opening montage of the iconic Las Vegas Strip, accompanied by the announcement: “From Worre Studios in Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the world.”

Show Format and Concept

Gina Rodriguez, known for her role in “Jane the Virgin,” explains the premise of the show: “There are just 13 true-or-false questions. But to win life-changing money, they don’t need to know all the answers. They just need to know what they know and know what they don’t know.”

After answering the 13 questions, contestants must guess how many they answered correctly to win up to $1 million. Sample questions include quirky pop culture trivia, such as “The first star of ‘The Bachelor’ is now older than the star of ‘The Golden Bachelor’” and “Pete Davidson was briefly married to Ariana Grande.”

Filming Location: Worre Studios

“Lucky 13” was recorded at Worre Studios, a state-of-the-art 25,000-square-foot studio space located in the southwest valley of Las Vegas. This studio provides the perfect backdrop for the high-energy and vibrant nature of the game show.

Shaquille O’Neal's Vegas Ventures

For Shaquille O’Neal, “Lucky 13” is another addition to his list of Las Vegas-based television projects. In 2020, his TNT series “Shaq Life” documented his preparation for a two-hour DJ set at Encore Beach Club. Two years prior, “Big Chicken Shaq” on Facebook Watch showcased the opening of his first restaurant in Las Vegas.

Local Recognition and Support

Viewers who stay tuned through the closing credits will see a special acknowledgment: “Producers wish to acknowledge Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.” This nod underscores the integral role that Las Vegas plays in the production and success of the show.
