๐Ÿ‘ฎ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ Incident at Red Rock Resort Leaves Three Injured; Investigation Ongoing

In the early hours of Saturday, an altercation at the Red Rock Resort in Summerlin resulted in two stabbings and a shooting, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Details of the Incident

The violent incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. at Red Rock Resort, located at 11000 W. Charleston Blvd., just east of the 215 Beltway. All three injured individuals were transported to University Medical Center, with two reported to be in critical condition.

Eyewitness Account

Andrew Rothbart, a 48-year-old local resident, was present at the resort during the incident. Having attended a country music concert on Friday night, he was in the resort's Rouge Room when the violence broke out. Rothbart recounted that many patrons, particularly employees, were visibly traumatized by the events.

โ€œEverybody got underneath the tables,โ€ Rothbart said, describing the immediate reaction of those present. Upon leaving the Rouge Room around 1 a.m., he observed security personnel rushing in. He heard a loud bang shortly after and saw a person lying on the ground near the Lucky Penny restaurant, surrounded by police and security guards.

Official Statements

In response to the incident, Red Rock Resort's vice president and general manager, Scott Nelson, issued an internal statement to employees, acknowledging the traumatic nature of the event and offering counseling services to those affected. โ€œWe recognize that such a traumatic incident may create concerns of well-being, and some of our team members may need support in processing the event,โ€ Nelson stated.

Nelson praised the resort's security team for their quick response, which he believes prevented the situation from escalating further. โ€œWhile we are all shaken up by this random act of violence, we are grateful for the swift and decisive actions of our security team, which prevented a terrible incident from being much worse,โ€ he said. Nelson also extended thoughts and prayers to the affected team members, wishing them a quick and complete recovery.

Investigation and Security Measures

While Rothbart did not witness the condition of the injured security guards, he expressed that the significant security presence made him feel relatively safe despite the circumstances. Rothbart mentioned hearing that a person had stabbed two security guards and was subsequently shot by a third security guard, though police have not confirmed these details.

The Metropolitan Police Department has stated that the investigation is ongoing, and no further information has been released beyond the initial news statement.

Conclusion

The violent incident at Red Rock Resort has left the community and resort employees shaken. As the investigation continues, Red Rock Resort is focusing on supporting its staff and ensuring their well-being through counseling services. The resort remains committed to maintaining a safe environment for its patrons and employees.

โ™ฅ๏ธ Largest Poker Room on the Las Vegas Strip Opens at The Venetian

The Venetian hotel-casino unveiled the largest poker room on the Las Vegas Strip this week, a 14,000-square-foot space named The Poker Room. This state-of-the-art facility features 50 live dealer tables, each equipped with USB and USB-C charging ports. Amenities include a self-service beverage station, dedicated restrooms, and kiosks for the casino's loyalty card program and sports betting.

Located on the second floor of the Grand Canal Shoppes, The Poker Room is designed to offer a premier experience for poker enthusiasts. Tommy LaRosa, director of poker operations at The Venetian, emphasized the room's player-centric design. "We want to create a destination that every poker player must play at and everybody in Las Vegas is going to want to play on a daily basis," he stated during the unveiling.

Grand Opening Ceremony

The ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday featured a mix of celebrities and Venetian executives participating in a ceremonial first hand of poker. Grammy-award-winning rapper Nelly and magician Shin Lim, who is set to start a residency at The Palazzo Theatre in October, joined Venetianโ€™s president and CEO Patrick Nichols and chief financial officer Rob Brimmer at the table. The event also featured Scott Blumstein, the 2017 World Series of Poker main event winner, alongside poker pros Matt Berkey, Farah Galfond, Joey Ingram, and Jamie Kerstetter.

Guests and invited members of the Venetian Rewards program were treated to hors d'oeuvres, champagne, and live entertainment provided by a DJ. Attendees signed commemorative playing cards to mark the occasion.

LaRosa expressed his excitement and gratitude, highlighting the nearly two decades of work that culminated in the creation of The Poker Room. "Iโ€™m excited. Iโ€™m honored. Iโ€™m very appreciative of the leadership and the support that theyโ€™re giving us in poker. The things that theyโ€™ve invested in this room and the amenities that they put in for our players are second to none," he said.

Features and Future Plans

The Poker Room will host cash games and the DeepStack poker tournament series. The 2024 DeepStack Championship Poker Series concluded on July 31, but players can look forward to more tournaments in the future.

A notable upcoming feature is the addition of a streaming room, slated to be completed this year. This facility will allow players to coordinate vlogging sessions and enable the resort to stream tournament final tables and cash games, enhancing the visibility and appeal of The Poker Room.

The opening of The Poker Room at The Venetian marks a significant addition to the Las Vegas poker scene, offering an unparalleled experience for both casual players and seasoned professionals.

โŽ Nevada Officials Seek Supreme Court Ruling on Election Certification Obligations

Nevada's Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar and Attorney General Aaron Ford have filed a motion urging the Nevada Supreme Court to confirm the legal obligations of county commissioners regarding the certification of election results. This action follows an incident where the Washoe County Commission initially failed to certify two vote counts in the June primary.

Background

In July, the Washoe County Commission, which oversees Nevadaโ€™s second most populous county, eventually certified the results of two local recounts. This decision came after the commission had previously voted against certification, prompting legal action.

Aguilar and Ford intervened by filing a petition in July, seeking clarification from the Nevada Supreme Court on the legal responsibilities of county commissioners to certify election results. The officials argue that even though the commission rectified its initial failure by certifying the results, the issue remains significant.

Statements from Officials

"While the Washoe County Board of Commissioners corrected their failure to canvass the recounted elections, their initial vote sent a dangerous message," Aguilar stated. "The Supreme Court must take up this issue and confirm the obligation of county commissioners to certify the votes of their constituents."

Aguilar emphasized the necessity of establishing a legal precedent to ensure that no elected official can deny the results of a legitimate election. He described the canvass of the vote as a "ministerial" act, which according to the Legal Information Institute, is a procedural action that must be performed without regard to an officialโ€™s personal judgment or discretion.

Ford echoed these sentiments, highlighting the potential consequences of not addressing the issue. "It is vital that the Court make a ruling confirming the legal obligation of county commissioners to canvass and certify election results," he said. "Otherwise, we run the risk of further voter disenfranchisement and the destabilization of Nevada and federal elections."

Implications

If the Nevada Supreme Court decides to take up the case and rules in favor of Aguilar and Ford, it could set a legal precedent for future election certifications. This ruling would clarify the obligations of county commissioners and other elected officials, ensuring the integrity and stability of election processes in Nevada.

The outcome of this legal motion holds significant importance, especially with the upcoming November elections. A clear legal directive from the Supreme Court could prevent similar issues and reinforce the procedural integrity of election certification in Nevada.
