🎰 USA Today’s 10Best Reveals Nation’s Top Casino Resorts

Las Vegas might be the casino capital of the U.S., but it's not the only place to find luxurious casino resorts. With more than 150 casinos, Las Vegas is a world-renowned destination for gaming and entertainment. However, across the country, several other cities also boast incredible casino resorts that offer a mix of top-notch gaming, fine dining, and entertainment.

Recently, USA Today’s 10Best asked readers to weigh in on the best casino hotels in the U.S., focusing on properties that combine exceptional gaming with high-quality amenities. The list, curated from travel experts’ nominations, highlights the nation’s top 10 casino resorts, spanning from coast to coast. While Las Vegas claimed two spots, other cities such as Atlantic City, Connecticut, and California are home to some of the best casino hotels in the country.

Top Casino Resorts Across the U.S.

One standout from the list is Yaamava’ Resort & Casino at San Manuel in Highland, California, which came in second place. Located just an hour east of Los Angeles, Yaamava’ earned high praise for its expansive offerings. With 20 restaurants and bars, a sprawling pool deck, and a diverse entertainment lineup featuring artists like Ice Cube, Dan + Shay, Flogging Molly, and Andrea Bocelli, Yaamava’ has become a must-visit destination for casino-goers in Southern California.

Another California casino resort, Graton Resort & Casino, located in Sonoma County’s Rohnert Park, secured the No. 9 spot. Known for its upscale guest rooms and culinary experiences, Graton has a roster of entertainers scheduled for the fall, including Billy Ocean and 98 Degrees. Its combination of luxurious accommodations and entertainment makes it a popular Northern California getaway.

Las Vegas and Atlantic City Shine

Las Vegas, the gaming capital of the world, still leads the pack when it comes to renowned casino resorts. Caesars Palace earned the No. 3 spot, cementing its place as one of the premier destinations on the Strip, with its world-class gaming, celebrity chef restaurants, and a stunning entertainment lineup. ARIA Resort & Casino, another Vegas favorite, rounded out the list at No. 10, known for its modern design, luxury accommodations, and state-of-the-art casino floor.

On the East Coast, Atlantic City made a strong showing with three entries on the list. Ocean Casino Resort (No. 4), Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa (No. 6), and Resorts Casino Hotel (No. 8) continue to make the Jersey Shore a prime casino destination. With their impressive gaming floors, fine dining, and entertainment options, these resorts attract visitors year-round.

Beyond Las Vegas and Atlantic City

Other notable casinos that made the list include Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, which claimed the top spot. Mohegan Sun is famous for its sprawling casino, world-class spa, and vast entertainment venue that hosts major concerts and sporting events. In the South, Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi, ranked fifth, bringing a taste of Gulf Coast luxury to the casino scene with its upscale amenities and beachfront location.

The list also includes Mount Airy Casino Resort in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania (No. 7), which offers a scenic retreat with gaming, a golf course, and a spa, making it a popular destination for those seeking both excitement and relaxation.

🏒 Golden Knights Go 3-0 at Rookie Tournament: Key Performances from Bowman, Cataford, and Lindbom

The Vegas Golden Knights’ rookie camp in Southern California was a resounding success, as the team’s prospects shined in the Rookie Faceoff tournament held in El Segundo. The Knights went undefeated, finishing 3-0 with wins over the Los Angeles Kings, Seattle Kraken, and Utah Hockey Club. The event gave several young players a chance to stand out ahead of the team's full training camp, which starts on Thursday.

Here are three key takeaways from the Golden Knights’ trip to the Rookie Faceoff tournament:

1. Bowman Surprises

Braeden Bowman, a right wing known for his scoring ability in junior hockey, showcased his offensive talents throughout the tournament. The 21-year-old found the back of the net in the Knights’ first two games, scoring key goals in their 2-0 victory over the Los Angeles Kings and 5-3 win against the Seattle Kraken.

Bowman’s goals highlighted his knack for getting to the front of the net and using his size effectively. Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 195 pounds, Bowman used his frame to his advantage, showing his willingness to battle in high-traffic areas. Bowman, who captained the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League last season, notched 37 goals and 71 points in 68 games during the 2022-23 campaign.

Having signed an American Hockey League (AHL) contract with the Henderson Silver Knights in July, Bowman is a prospect to watch. His performance in Southern California has undoubtedly boosted his stock as he prepares for the upcoming season.

2. Cataford Impresses

Mathieu Cataford, the Golden Knights’ third-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, continued to make a name for himself at the Rookie Faceoff. The 19-year-old forward had a standout season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) last year, racking up 90 points in 65 games with the Halifax Mooseheads. His strong showing earned him a brief four-game stint with the Silver Knights at the end of the season, giving him a taste of professional hockey.

Cataford carried that momentum into the tournament, contributing a goal and an assist while playing on the Knights’ top line. Silver Knights coach Ryan Craig noted Cataford’s steady improvement and potential, saying, "He got better as it went. It was a great taste for him of pro hockey."

This season will be crucial for Cataford’s development. He’ll return to junior hockey with the Rimouski Oceanic, where he was traded in June, and will be a player to watch as the team hosts the 2024 Memorial Cup. With a strong showing at training camp, Cataford aims to further solidify his status as one of the Knights' top prospects.

“Everyone wants to prove what they’ve got,” Cataford said. “Everyone wants to make the big team as soon as possible.”

3. Lindbom Looks the Part

While forwards often dominate the spotlight at rookie tournaments, goaltender Carl Lindbom delivered a standout performance for the Golden Knights. The Swedish netminder teamed up with fellow countryman Jesper Vikman to shut out the Los Angeles Kings in the tournament opener. Lindbom, a seventh-round pick by Vegas in 2021, stopped all 14 shots he faced during his time in net.

Lindbom’s impressive play follows a solid season in Sweden, where he posted a 17-7-0 record, a .911 save percentage, and a 2.21 goals-against average with Farjestad BK in the Swedish Hockey League. His consistency has earned him recognition as one of the top goaltending prospects in the Knights’ system.

“Playing pro hockey in Sweden has been great for me,” Lindbom said. “It’s been great for my development, so it’s been awesome.”

Lindbom is expected to begin the season with the ECHL’s Tahoe Knight Monsters, while Vikman will compete for a spot in Henderson alongside Akira Schmid and Isaiah Saville. Regardless of where he starts, Lindbom is confident in his readiness to take the next step in his career.

“I feel like I’ve had two really good years in Sweden playing pro,” Lindbom said. “Now, I feel like I’m ready to come over here.”

🎰 Tropicana Hotel Set for Demolition: Watch Party Planned at Mandalay Bay

The impending implosion of the iconic Tropicana casino-hotel in Las Vegas has created a buzz among locals and tourists alike. The demolition, scheduled for the early hours of October 9, is expected to draw large crowds, and one nearby nightclub is capitalizing on the opportunity by offering a prime viewing experience.

The Foundation Room, located on the 63rd floor of the Mandalay Bay casino-hotel, will host a special viewing party on October 8. With doors opening at 10:30 p.m., guests will have an exclusive vantage point from which to watch the historic event unfold. General admission tickets for the event have already sold out, but reserved table seating, which includes views of the Las Vegas Strip, remains available.

The scheduled implosion, set for 2:30 a.m. on October 9, will mark the end of an era for the Tropicana, one of Las Vegas' most storied casino-hotels. According to Bally's Corp., the operator of the soon-to-be-demolished casino, the implosion will be preceded by a drone and fireworks show, adding to the excitement of the night.

The Foundation Room’s outdoor patio offers largely unobstructed, north-facing views of the Strip, making it an ideal location to watch the Tropicana’s final moments. Located just two blocks south of the implosion site, the venue promises guests an up-close view of the demolition, and barring any weather issues, guests will be allowed outside during the event.

A digital advertisement for the event has been urging people not to “miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime event.” The invite describes the night as “a thrilling celebration that combines nostalgia, excitement, and a touch of demolition magic,” encouraging people to reserve their spot and be part of history.

“Get ready for an unforgettable night as we bid a grand adieu to the iconic Tropicana Hotel,” the ad reads. The viewing party is open to adults 21 and older, and a “dress to impress” dress code will be strictly enforced, adding to the event’s upscale atmosphere.

MGM Resorts International, which owns Mandalay Bay and other nearby properties like Excalibur, New York New York, and MGM Grand, has not planned any additional watch parties for the event. However, the allure of the Tropicana’s implosion has caused hotel room rates to skyrocket at properties offering sightlines to the spectacle. Las Vegas enthusiasts and casino history fans are eager to witness the first Sin City casino-hotel implosion in eight years.

The timing of the implosion coincides with the Global Gaming Expo (G2E), the largest annual gambling industry conference, which will take place just a few blocks away at the Venetian Expo Center. Hotel room rates tend to be inflated during G2E, especially at mid-Strip properties near the convention, and the implosion has only added to the demand.

As Las Vegas prepares to say goodbye to the Tropicana, a building that has stood for over 60 years, this once-in-a-lifetime event offers both a nostalgic look back at the city’s history and a thrilling peek into its ever-evolving future.

Political Leaders Condemn Violence Following Assassination Attempt on Donald Trump

National and local politicians quickly responded after the FBI announced it was investigating what it described as an “attempted assassination” on former President Donald Trump. The incident occurred at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s private club and residence in Palm Beach, Florida, where he was playing golf when an alarming discovery was made by U.S. Secret Service agents.

An agent patrolling the course noticed the muzzle of an AK-style rifle poking out from a bush a few holes ahead of where Trump was playing. The suspect, later identified as Ryan Routh, was spotted near the golf course, prompting the agent to fire his weapon. Routh immediately fled the scene in an SUV, leaving behind his AK-style rifle, two backpacks, and a GoPro camera, which may have been used to record his actions.

This marks the second reported assassination attempt targeting Trump, coming just months after the former president was shot at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July. Fortunately, no one was injured in either incident.

Political Leaders React

The severity of the event drew swift reactions from both national and local political figures, expressing relief for Trump’s safety and condemning political violence.

Vice President Kamala Harris took to Twitter (X) to address the situation, stating, “I have been briefed on reports of gunshots fired near former President Trump and his property in Florida, and I am glad he is safe.” Harris reiterated that violence has no place in America, a message that was echoed by Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, her running mate for the 2024 election.

“Gwen and I are glad to hear that Donald Trump is safe. Violence has no place in our country. It’s not who we are as a nation,” Walz shared in a post on X.

Similarly, Trump’s vice presidential pick, Senator JD Vance, expressed his concern and gratitude for the safety of the former president. "Glad and grateful that President Trump is safe,” Vance tweeted.

The Nevada Republican Party also weighed in with a statement, offering support for Trump and his family. “Our thoughts and prayers are with President Trump and his family following the alarming event that unfolded at President Trump’s West Palm Beach Golf Course earlier today,” the Nevada GOP shared on X.

Democratic U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada commended the law enforcement officials for their swift response. “Political violence can never be tolerated in our democracy, and I look forward to the suspect being brought to justice,” she posted on X.

Her fellow Nevada senator, Jacky Rosen, also took to social media, sharing her relief that Trump was unharmed. “I am relieved to hear that President Trump is safe following reports of shots fired near him today. Political violence is never the answer and has no place in our democracy,” Rosen wrote.

Rosen’s Republican opponent in the upcoming Senate race, Sam Brown, who had recently attended a Trump rally in Las Vegas, shared his thoughts and prayers for the former president. “We continue to pray for his protection and the future of our nation,” Brown wrote in his post on X.

FBI Investigation Ongoing

Ryan Routh, the man allegedly behind the attempted attack, has been taken into custody, and the FBI has launched a formal investigation to uncover Routh’s motives. So far, no details have been released about what may have driven him to target the former president. Authorities are combing through the items left behind, including the GoPro camera, which may provide additional insights into his actions leading up to the incident.

As the investigation continues, the political world remains united in its condemnation of violence, with leaders from across the spectrum calling for calm and respect for democratic processes. Political violence, they assert, is never justified and has no place in the fabric of American democracy.
