🏎 Las Vegas Grand Prix Prep: Koval Lane Lighting Installation Underway, Strip Lane Closures Ongoing

Crews continue preparations for the Las Vegas Grand Prix by progressing with track lighting installation on key roads around the race circuit. With lighting installation on Harmon Avenue now complete, crews have shifted their focus to Koval Lane and the Formula One pit building. The work on Harmon, which spans from Las Vegas Boulevard to Koval Lane, was finished last Friday. Now, the team is installing lighting along Koval Lane, with plans to continue through October 4.

During this period, overnight lane closures are in effect on Koval, with one lane in each direction closed between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., Sunday through Friday. These closures aim to reduce daytime disruptions and maintain smoother traffic flow during high-traffic hours. The ongoing work is a critical step in preparing the 3.8-mile race circuit for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, scheduled for November 21-23.

Meanwhile, on Las Vegas Boulevard, two southbound lanes in front of the Bellagio remain closed as crews build a high-end hospitality space overlooking the Fountains of Bellagio. These lane closures will last through November 20, and the sidewalk in front of the fountains will remain closed until November 22, just ahead of race weekend.

In addition to the work on Koval Lane and Las Vegas Boulevard, lighting installation is also taking place at the Sphere and the Formula One pit building. However, this construction will not impact public traffic flow. Outside of the around-the-clock lane closures near the Bellagio, most of the construction-related lane reductions are limited to overnight hours to minimize traffic congestion during the day.

The track lighting and other race preparations, including barrier installation, will follow a counterclockwise path around the circuit. The process starts at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Harmon Avenue, progressing down Koval Lane to Sands Avenue, and then moving toward Las Vegas Boulevard and further down the Strip until crews loop back to Harmon.

To keep drivers informed and avoid unexpected traffic delays, the Las Vegas Grand Prix organizers have provided an interactive transportation website. Residents and visitors can also receive real-time updates by signing up for Clark County's text alert service. By texting F1LV to 31996, participants receive weekly updates on Sundays and Wednesdays with the latest road closures and traffic impacts.

As the race date approaches, the city will continue adapting to the demands of hosting this high-profile event, with more temporary changes expected in the coming weeks to prepare Las Vegas for its first-ever Formula One Grand Prix on the iconic Strip.

🏀 Las Vegas Aces Hold Storm to Two Points in Fourth Quarter, Take Game 1

The Las Vegas Aces battled through a tough, physical Game 1 in their WNBA first-round playoff series, defeating the Seattle Storm 78-67 at Michelob Ultra Arena on Sunday. Despite struggling offensively early and receiving fewer free-throw opportunities than expected, the Aces overcame adversity to pull ahead in the second half. Coach Becky Hammon, jokingly held back by her players, referenced the lack of calls and free throws—a common theme in playoff basketball. The Aces made all 11 of their free-throw attempts, while Seattle went 13-for-13.

The Aces’ defense was the true hero of the night, holding the Storm to just two points in the fourth quarter as Seattle went 0-for-12 from the field. A’ja Wilson, the league’s three-time MVP, had a slow start, shooting 1-of-8 in the first half, but exploded for 15 points in the third quarter. The Aces were also buoyed by strong contributions from their bench, particularly Tiffany Hayes, who scored 12 of her 20 points in the second quarter, and Sixth Player of the Year Alysha Clark.

Hammon highlighted the importance of letting her team play freely, abandoning the playbook at times. "One of our best plays was the no play," Hammon said, emphasizing the need for improvisation in a tightly scouted postseason. Now, with a chance to close out the series on Tuesday at home, the Aces are focused on maintaining their defensive intensity and trusting in their system.

🎰 Global Gaming Expo Kicks Off with Keynotes from FanDuel and MGM CEOs in Las Vegas

The Global Gaming Expo (G2E), the largest gaming industry event in the world, will return to Las Vegas on October 8, bringing together thousands of gaming professionals and industry leaders at The Venetian. This year’s event will kick off with high-profile keynote addresses from two of the most influential CEOs in the gaming world: Peter Jackson, CEO of Flutter Entertainment, and Bill Hornbuckle, CEO of MGM Resorts International. Together, they will provide critical insights into the gaming industry’s evolving landscape, touching on key issues such as economic challenges, market expansion, and new business opportunities.

Peter Jackson, who heads Flutter Entertainment, the parent company of FanDuel, is expected to speak on the company’s growth strategy and the broader trends shaping the global gaming and sports betting markets. FanDuel has risen to become one of the leading online sports wagering platforms in the United States, competing at the top level of the market alongside DraftKings. Although FanDuel does not currently operate in Nevada, its dominance in other states underscores the rapid rise of online sports betting across the U.S. and beyond. Jackson’s perspective will be particularly relevant as the gaming industry continues to push for further legalization and regulation of sports betting in various U.S. markets.

Bill Hornbuckle, CEO of MGM Resorts International, will once again take the stage at G2E after making headlines during last year’s event when he detailed the devastating cyberattack that MGM Resorts endured. The attack, which crippled the company’s computer systems for nine days, caused significant operational disruption and is estimated to have cost MGM around $100 million. Most of the loss was covered by insurance, but the incident highlighted the growing threat of cybercrime in the gaming industry. Hornbuckle’s address is expected to touch on cybersecurity, among other pressing issues facing MGM and the broader gaming sector.

This year's keynote session will be moderated by CNBC correspondent Contessa Brewer, who specializes in covering the gaming industry. The session will follow a two-part format, with Brewer interviewing Jackson and Hornbuckle separately. They will share insights on their respective companies and reflect on the broader challenges and opportunities shaping the gaming industry today.

Before the CEO interviews, American Gaming Association (AGA) President Bill Miller will present his annual state-of-the-industry address. Miller’s report will provide an overview of the gaming industry's current state and its future outlook. He is expected to discuss the U.S. gaming industry’s continued growth and international expansion, as well as critical issues like sports betting regulation, responsible gaming practices, and the integration of new technologies into casinos and sportsbooks.

“Peter and Bill are two titans of the gaming industry whose perspectives will illuminate where the industry is headed and set the table for the ideas and innovations that will be explored throughout this year’s G2E,” Miller said in a statement. “Gaming is undergoing historic expansion in the U.S. and internationally, and the AGA and our partners at RX look forward to hosting the global gaming community at G2E to address this widening array of industry priorities — both in our keynotes and education sessions and on the expo floor.”

In addition to the keynote speeches, G2E 2024 will feature over 100 educational sessions starting on October 7, covering a wide array of topics including sports betting, iGaming, regulatory developments, cybersecurity, and innovations in casino technology. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from experts across the industry, including operators, regulators, and technology providers, as they discuss emerging trends and strategies to navigate the rapidly changing landscape of global gaming.

The trade show floor will open on October 8, showcasing the latest gaming products, slot machines, table games, and cutting-edge technology from hundreds of exhibitors. Attendees will have the chance to explore new gaming systems, equipment, and solutions that are shaping the future of casinos, sportsbooks, and online gaming platforms. The expo is expected to attract more than 25,000 industry professionals, including operators, suppliers, and regulators from around the world.

As gaming continues to evolve, with the rise of online and mobile sports betting, iGaming, and the integration of new technologies like artificial intelligence and blockchain, G2E provides a vital platform for industry leaders to connect, collaborate, and strategize for the future.

G2E remains an industry-exclusive event, open only to gaming professionals. The four-day event will run from October 7 to 10, with the keynote speeches and trade show floor as major highlights of the gathering. As the global gaming industry continues to expand and adapt to new challenges, this year’s G2E promises to be a pivotal moment for the future of gaming.
