Nevada Secretary of State Urges Voters to Update Registration and Signatures Ahead of Election

Nevada Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar emphasized the importance of voter participation, reiterating that Nevada is a state "where every vote counts." In preparation for upcoming elections, the Secretary of State's Office is encouraging eligible voters to update their voter registration information, including ensuring that their signatures on file are accurate.

To help voters with this process, the website VOTE.NV.gov provides a range of voting resources. Voters can check and update their registration information, confirm their signatures, and register as new voters. By clicking on the "Update My Existing Voter Registration" tab, voters can review and verify their personal details, update their addresses, change party affiliations, and confirm the signature on file. Clark County election officials note that the signature used on VOTE.NV.gov is the same as the one on file with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

The Secretary of State’s Office highlighted the importance of having an up-to-date signature on file. Under Nevada law (NRS 293.269927 and NRS 293.285), election officials use a voter's signature to verify their identity when they cast a ballot. A current and accurate signature helps ensure smooth processing of mail-in ballots and quick check-in at polling locations.

Key Dates for Upcoming Elections:

  • Early Voting: Runs from Oct. 19 to Nov. 1, 2024.

  • Election Day: Nov. 5, 2024.

  • Same-Day Voter Registration: Voters can register or update their registration online at VOTE.NV.gov or in person at polling locations during early voting or on Election Day.

  • Deadline to Update for Mail Ballot: Oct. 22, 2024, is the last day to register or update information and still receive a mail-in ballot.

  • Mail-In Ballots: All active registered voters will automatically receive a mail ballot unless they opt out. Mail ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day (Nov. 5) and received by county election officials by Nov. 9 to be counted.

By encouraging voters to check their information and ensure their records are current, the Secretary of State’s Office aims to make voting easier and more accessible for all Nevadans.

🏒 Golden Knights Confident with Shortened Preseason as They Prep for 2024-25 Campaign

The Vegas Golden Knights are playing one fewer preseason game this year, but that hasn’t caused much concern for the team. Originally slated to play seven games, the Knights’ schedule was reduced to six after the Arizona Coyotes relocated to Salt Lake City and rebranded as the Utah Hockey Club. The Knights were set to face the Los Angeles Kings at Salt Lake City's Delta Center, but with the Coyotes’ move, the game was canceled.

While some teams might find this to be a setback, the Knights are confident that 18 periods of preseason hockey will be enough to evaluate their roster and get ready for the regular season. Coach Bruce Cassidy noted that teams with new coaches or significant roster changes might need the extra game to establish new systems and assess players. However, the Knights, as defending Stanley Cup champions, are already comfortable with their core and systems. “For our situation, I think it’s a perfect amount,” Cassidy said.

The Knights are blending regulars and roster hopefuls during the preseason, and their second exhibition game will be against the Kings at T-Mobile Arena on Wednesday. They started their preseason with a 4-2 win over the San Jose Sharks on Sunday.

Adjusting the Roster

As of Tuesday, 57 players remain at the Knights' camp, with six players already assigned to their junior teams. The team still has several cuts to make before reaching the NHL’s 23-man roster limit. Despite some minor injuries to defenseman Lukas Cormier and forward Sloan Stanick, the team is largely healthy. Center William Karlsson was given a maintenance day but is not expected to miss any extended time, something Cassidy is grateful for as they move closer to the regular season.

Cassidy plans to continue mixing regular players with those fighting for roster spots in Wednesday's game. For example, in Sunday’s game, the Knights’ fourth line—featuring Brett Howden, Keegan Kolesar, and Tanner Pearson, who is on a professional tryout—performed well. Pearson, a former Stanley Cup champion, impressed Cassidy with his solid, predictable play, especially in forechecking and along the walls.

Players Preparing for the Season

For some players, like forward Nicolas Roy, the preseason is crucial for getting into game shape. Roy, typically a fourth-line center, is adjusting to playing third-line right wing alongside center Tomas Hertl and left wing Alexander Holtz. Roy noted that he needs about three preseason games to feel fully prepared for the regular season. “You play those scrimmages (in practice), it’s kind of fast but not as fast as those (preseason games),” Roy said, adding that the preseason helps slow the game down as players settle into their roles.

The Knights’ preseason schedule may be shorter, but with their established roster and championship experience, they believe they have all the tools needed to be ready for another deep run in the upcoming season.

😁 Las Vegas Gets Groovy with ‘70s-Themed Roller-Skating Rink at TAO Beach Dayclub

This winter, Strip-goers can enjoy a retro experience as TAO Beach Dayclub at The Venetian transforms into a ‘70s-themed roller-skating rink. In partnership with Flipper’s World, The Venetian and TAO Group Hospitality will bring the iconic Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace to Las Vegas, offering an immersive skating experience complete with music, vibrant decor, and retro vibes.

Set to open on November 17, Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace will take over the 47,000-square-foot TAO Beach Dayclub, converting its pools into a 3,250-square-foot skating rink. The rink will be open daily from noon to 8 p.m., allowing skaters of all ages to enjoy the fun, while offering select 21-and-up programming in the evenings. The rink will feature performances by top artists and DJs, providing a soundtrack of throwback hits and modern beats for skaters to groove to under the Las Vegas skyline.

Skaters can book one-hour sessions starting at $20, or opt for a full-day pass for $75. For those looking to celebrate special occasions, VIP experiences are available, including bachelorette or birthday parties. Guests can reserve tables, cabanas, daybeds, or lounges, with minimum spend requirements starting at $100, providing a premium skating experience.

To accommodate guests, skate rentals will be available, or attendees can bring their own roller skates. Flipper’s encourages early ticket purchases, as the rink will be open through February 2, 2024.

The original Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace, which operated in Los Angeles from 1979 to 1981, was a cultural phenomenon on Santa Monica Boulevard. Founded by Ian “Flipper” Ross, the rink attracted celebrities and roller-skating enthusiasts alike. In 2021, Flipper’s was revived by co-founders Liberty Ross and Kevin Wall, with the support of musician Usher. Since its revival, Flipper’s has expanded globally, offering skate residencies in cities like London and now, for the first time, Las Vegas.

The rink at TAO Beach Dayclub will provide a nostalgic and exciting experience for locals and visitors to the Strip, offering a unique way to celebrate the winter months with a dose of ‘70s fun. From casual skaters to VIP guests, Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace is set to be one of the most anticipated attractions in Las Vegas this winter.

🎰 Tropicana's Final Farewell: Demolition and Drone Show Set for October 9

In the early hours of Oct. 9, a long-standing symbol of Las Vegas’ storied past, the Tropicana hotel towers, will be reduced to rubble in just 22 seconds. The two 23-story towers, which total 917,400 square feet, will come down as Controlled Demolition crews ignite 2,190 pounds of explosives. The event, jointly announced by Bally’s Corp. and the Oakland Athletics, will mark the end of an era for the Tropicana, one of the most iconic properties on the Strip.

Before the demolition, a grand send-off will be held featuring 555 drones and a fireworks display orchestrated by Fireworks by Grucci, allowing Las Vegas to celebrate the Tropicana one last time. The event is set to be a poignant tribute to the property, which has been a cornerstone of the city’s entertainment and hospitality industry since the Rat Pack era.

Steve Hill, President and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, highlighted the symbolic nature of the occasion. “We have a spectacularly rich history that defined live entertainment, nightlife, and culture, and we appreciate the significant role The Tropicana had in making Las Vegas what it is today,” Hill said in a statement. He emphasized that the demolition is a reflection of the city’s continuous reinvention and forward-looking mindset, as Las Vegas once again prepares for a new chapter in its history.

The Tropicana’s demolition will make way for the Oakland Athletics' planned $1.5 billion ballpark. The stadium will occupy 9 acres of the 35-acre site, and Bally’s Corp. also has plans to develop a new resort surrounding the ballpark. The construction of the ballpark is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2024 and be completed by early 2028, in time for the MLB season.

Clark County Commissioner Jim Gibson noted the significance of the event, predicting that the Tropicana could be the last major structure on the Las Vegas Strip to be imploded for the foreseeable future. “It’s been years since we did our last one, and it will likely be many, many years before we do another,” he said.

The Tropicana, with its deep ties to Las Vegas' golden era of entertainment and its role in shaping the city's cultural and social fabric, will be remembered as one of the Strip's legendary resorts. Its demolition marks not just the end of a physical structure, but the closing of a chapter in the city's ongoing story of reinvention.
