🚧 Full Southbound Closure of I-15 Near Resort Corridor Set for This Weekend
Motorists in Las Vegas should prepare for a full closure of southbound Interstate 15 (I-15) between Hacienda Avenue and the 215 Beltway this weekend, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) announced on Wednesday. The closure, necessary for paving operations, will begin at 9 p.m. on Friday and continue until 5 a.m. on Monday.
As part of the closure, the on-ramp to I-15 southbound from Harmon Avenue will also be closed over the weekend. Traffic approaching the closure will be diverted to the collector-distributor road at Tropicana Avenue, allowing vehicles to re-enter I-15 just after the 215 Beltway interchange.
Event Traffic Impact
The closure coincides with two major sporting events on Friday night: the UNLV-Syracuse football game at Allegiant Stadium and the Las Vegas Aces-New York Liberty WNBA playoff game at Mandalay Bay's Michelob Ultra Arena. Fans attending these events should anticipate heavy traffic around I-15 and surrounding streets as the closures may cause congestion near both venues.
Other Upcoming Closures and Restrictions
In addition to this weekend's full closure, several other traffic restrictions will be in effect over the coming week as NDOT continues paving work along I-15. Here’s a breakdown of upcoming closures:
Wednesday (9 p.m.) to Thursday (5 a.m.): I-15 southbound and northbound ramps to 215 eastbound will be closed.
Thursday (9 p.m.) to Friday (5 a.m.):
215 eastbound ramp to I-15 northbound will be closed.
I-15 northbound collector-distributor road to Russell Road/Frank Sinatra Drive will be closed.
I-15 southbound off-ramp to Russell Road will be closed.
Thursday (11 p.m.) to Friday (5 a.m.):
I-15 northbound reduced to three lanes between Warm Springs Road and 215.
I-15 southbound reduced to two lanes between Tropicana Avenue and 215.
Thursday (11 p.m.) to Friday (5 a.m.): Russell Road on-ramp to I-15 southbound and the I-15 southbound ramp to 215 westbound will be closed.
Monday (11 p.m.) to Tuesday (7 a.m.): Frank Sinatra Drive will be closed between Arena Drive and Excalibur Way.
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, use alternate routes, and expect delays in these areas as work progresses.
🏈 Raiders Navigate Uncertainty as Trade Talks for Davante Adams Heat Up
The business and playing sides of professional football intersected in a significant way at the Las Vegas Raiders' facility on Wednesday, as trade talks surrounding star wide receiver Davante Adams intensified.
Upstairs, Raiders general manager Tom Telesco was actively engaging in trade discussions, seeking to move Adams before the trade deadline. According to multiple sources, the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys, and Pittsburgh Steelers have all shown interest in acquiring the 32-year-old receiver, who remains one of the top talents in the NFL. Although no deal has been finalized, sources indicate that Adams’ desire to be traded, combined with the Raiders' willingness to facilitate a move, could result in a deal by the end of the week.
Locker Room Faces Uncertainty
While the front office was busy navigating trade negotiations, players downstairs in the Raiders’ locker room were coming to terms with the potential departure of one of their key teammates. The news has been a significant topic of conversation, with quarterback Gardner Minshew acknowledging the “elephant in the room” as players tried to maintain focus ahead of Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.
Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers admitted that the situation has been a distraction. “I mean, it’s gonna be a distraction. It is what it is. We understand that,” Meyers said. Left tackle Kolton Miller echoed a similar sentiment, emphasizing that the team needs to adjust to whatever happens next. “You just gotta say … this has happened, so how are we going to adjust?” he said.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Adams, players know they need to stay focused on their immediate task: winning games. Minshew stressed the importance of separating their personal feelings from their professional obligations. “We’ve got to focus on the task at hand with who we have here,” he said. “We all love Davante, but understand he’s got to make the best decision for him. Our team has to make the best decision for us, and we’ve got to keep moving forward and try to figure out how to win games.”
Coach Antonio Pierce’s Role
Managing the team’s emotions and keeping them focused amid the trade rumors falls on the shoulders of Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce. Pierce, who took over mid-season, faces a challenge in steering the team through this turbulent period. He acknowledged that the situation with Adams has the potential to be distracting but emphasized that his focus remains solely on preparing for the Broncos.
“It starts with me because that’s my only focus,” Pierce said. “I get paid here to get ready each and every week for the opponent. I don’t blink. I don’t flinch. I’ve been through enough in my life with adversity and stuff that it doesn’t bother me.”
Despite this, reports suggest that Pierce’s relationship with Adams has soured in recent weeks. Known for his candid approach, Pierce’s recent remarks have been more guarded. When asked about Adams’ status, Pierce simply stated that Adams is continuing to rehab from his hamstring injury. When pressed further on whether Adams would be present at the facility, Pierce responded, “He’s supposed to be rehabbing.”
Social Media Controversy
The situation has also played out on social media, where Pierce sidestepped a question about a report that he had “liked” a social media post suggesting Adams had played his final game with the Raiders. Pierce deflected the inquiry, insisting that his focus is solely on the upcoming game against Denver. “I’m just focused on Denver,” he said.
In a team meeting held earlier on Wednesday, Pierce urged his players to block out the noise and concentrate on preparing for their next opponent. Minshew reiterated that the Adams situation is out of the players' control. “That’s not for us to handle,” he said. “Our job is to get out there and practice to prepare for this week, so that’s all we can do and trust that the guys upstairs are going to make the right decisions for our team.”
What’s Next?
While Raiders players try to stay focused on the task at hand, the looming uncertainty of Adams’ future with the team continues to cast a shadow. With multiple teams vying for his services, it’s clear that Adams remains a highly sought-after player despite his age. As both Adams and the Raiders organization explore their options, the next few days will be pivotal in determining not only Adams' next destination but also the direction the Raiders' season takes.
If Adams is traded, the Raiders will have to adjust their offense to fill the void left by one of the league’s premier wide receivers. For now, the team will continue to prepare for their upcoming matchup against the Broncos, but it’s clear that the outcome of the Adams situation will significantly impact the rest of the season.
Key Points:
Davante Adams Trade Talks Intensify: The New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys, and Pittsburgh Steelers have all expressed interest in trading for Adams.
No Deal Finalized: While no trade has been completed yet, a deal could happen by the end of the week.
Locker Room Reaction: Raiders players are trying to stay focused, but the potential trade has been a distraction.
Coach Pierce’s Role: Antonio Pierce is tasked with managing the team’s focus amid uncertainty, while his relationship with Adams appears strained.
Next Game: Despite the uncertainty, the Raiders are preparing for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.
🎉 Area15 Expansion Moves Forward with Las Vegas City Council Approval of New Tourism District
The expansion of Las Vegas' Area15, an immersive art and entertainment hub, is set to move forward after the Las Vegas City Council tentatively approved the creation of a new tourism improvement district on Wednesday. The approval marks a key milestone for the 35-acre expansion of the popular destination, which will soon include Universal’s Horror Unleashed, an upcoming horror-themed immersive experience.
Tourism District Approval and Funding Mechanism
The ordinance, introduced by Councilwoman Olivia Diaz, would enable the developers of Area15, Fisher Brothers, to use sales tax revenue generated by retailers within the newly formed district to finance critical infrastructure improvements. The ordinance, part of a larger group of proposals passed without debate, will face a final vote on October 16. This comes after the council had earlier approved a resolution on August 21 to draft the ordinance following a public hearing.
The formation of the tourism district, which will be known as the New Vegas Immersive Tourism District, is a crucial step for the expansion. The Nevada Commission on Tourism gave its approval for the district on September 11. By designating this area as a tourism improvement district, a portion of sales tax revenue from local businesses will be allocated for infrastructure, making it easier for developers to fund roads, utilities, and other essential services as the site grows.
Universal's Horror Unleashed and Other Upcoming Attractions
At the heart of Area15’s expansion is Universal’s Horror Unleashed, a 100,000-square-foot immersive entertainment experience dedicated to the horror genre. This will be Universal Destinations and Experiences’ first standalone themed horror attraction outside its iconic theme parks in Hollywood and Orlando. The attraction is anticipated to open in about a year, offering a one-of-a-kind experience for thrill-seekers and horror fans.
Alongside Horror Unleashed, Area15's expansion plans include the addition of 418,000 square feet of new retail space, 320,000 square feet of office space, a 200-room nongaming hotel, and 585 multifamily housing units. The new residential neighborhood will be separate from the existing Area15 property but is expected to complement the entertainment and retail offerings.
Area15, which first opened in 2020, has quickly become a hotspot for immersive art and entertainment experiences. It currently hosts a variety of attractions such as Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart, Illuminarium, Five Iron Golf, Dueling Axes, and Laser Maze. With the expansion, new experiences are on the horizon, including iFLY Indoor Skydiving, the John Wick Experience by Lionsgate, and an installation by Superplastic.
Economic Impact and Projections for the Area15 Expansion
The expansion of Area15 is expected to bring significant economic benefits to the Las Vegas area. According to a report commissioned by Area15 and prepared by Johnson Consulting Group, the development could add 6.9 million annual visitors by 2037, generating approximately $796 million in annual on-site spending. Additionally, indirect and induced spending could reach $1.4 billion, while the project could create 4,086 jobs and contribute $384 million in increased earnings for the local economy.
The report also forecasts that the expansion will result in $15.8 million in eligible annual sales tax revenue, with 56% of all spending coming from non-Nevada residents, minimizing any displacement of local tax revenue. Importantly, the study indicates that the expansion will not place additional strain on Las Vegas' police and fire protection services, addressing a common concern with large-scale developments.
Supporting the City's Vision for Tourism Growth
Area15’s CEO, Winston Fisher, emphasized that the expansion is a key element in driving greater visitor numbers to Las Vegas. The additional attractions, retail, and residential spaces are expected to transform the surrounding area, which is bordered by Kings Way and Teddy Drive to the north, Rancho Drive to the east, Wyandotte Street and Rigel Avenue to the west, and Sirius Avenue to the south. This expansion aligns with Las Vegas' broader goal of enhancing its appeal beyond traditional casinos and nightlife, tapping into the growing trend of experiential and immersive entertainment.
Next Steps for the Expansion
While the City Council’s vote is a major step forward, the ordinance will need to pass a final approval process on October 16 before the tourism improvement district can officially be established. Once finalized, the Fisher Brothers will be able to leverage the sales tax revenue generated from the district’s retail stores to support infrastructure development, ensuring that the expansion of Area15 remains on track.
As Las Vegas continues to diversify its entertainment offerings, Area15’s growing portfolio of experiences, combined with the expected launch of Universal’s Horror Unleashed, could further solidify the city’s status as a world-class destination for immersive entertainment. The ongoing expansion will provide both visitors and locals with new entertainment options, retail outlets, and even housing, making it a pivotal project for the future of Las Vegas tourism.
Key Points of the Expansion:
Universal’s Horror Unleashed: A 100,000-square-foot horror-themed immersive attraction, opening in about a year, will be the first standalone Universal horror attraction outside of its theme parks.
New Development: 418,000 square feet of retail space, 320,000 square feet of office space, a 200-room hotel, and 585 multifamily housing units.
Economic Impact: Expected to generate $796 million in annual spending and create over 4,000 jobs by 2037.
Approval Process: The ordinance establishing the tourism district is expected to receive final approval on October 16.
🍗 David Chang's Fuku Returns to Allegiant Stadium with New Concession Stand
Fuku, the spicy chicken restaurant founded by renowned chef David Chang, has made its permanent return to Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders. After a brief appearance during the Super Bowl Sunday festivities in February as part of the Game Day Experience by Bud Light, Fuku has now debuted a full-time concession stand at the venue. This marks the 23rd Fuku location at sports stadiums, arenas, and ballparks across the U.S., according to a statement from the restaurant on Monday.
Fuku’s arrival at Allegiant Stadium was made possible through a partnership with Silver & Black Hospitality, the food, beverage, and events management company at the stadium. Fans attending Raiders games and other events at the stadium can now enjoy Fuku’s signature spicy chicken dishes at Section 106.
What’s on the Menu?
The menu at Fuku’s Allegiant Stadium location features some of the brand’s most popular items, including:
The OG Sando: A classic spicy fried chicken sandwich.
The Sweet and Spicy Sando: Offering a balance of heat and sweetness.
Tenders: Available in both classic and sweet and spicy versions.
Waffle Fries: A crispy, fan-favorite side.
Accompanying these dishes are a variety of Fuku’s signature dipping sauces, including Fuku mayo, ranch, and honey mustard, which enhance the bold flavors of the chicken offerings.
Fuku's Growing Presence in Las Vegas
The addition of Fuku to Allegiant Stadium expands the restaurant’s presence in Las Vegas. Fuku also operates a concession stand at T-Mobile Arena, another major sports and entertainment venue in the city. This location serves fans attending events like Vegas Golden Knights hockey games and concerts.
In addition to Fuku, chef David Chang has a notable presence on the Las Vegas Strip with his acclaimed Momofuku Noodle Bar at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Momofuku, which first opened in New York City in 2004 and helped elevate Chang’s career, offers a modern take on Asian cuisine, specializing in ramen, buns, and other noodle dishes. The Cosmopolitan is also home to Bang Bar, another Chang concept located in the Block 16 Urban Food Hall, serving rice bowls and flatbread sandwiches as grab-and-go options.
Expanding the Fuku Legacy
Fuku has rapidly expanded since its inception, now boasting 23 locations in some of the most iconic sports and entertainment venues across the country. The concept was originally created as an offshoot of Momofuku, with a focus on bringing high-quality, bold-flavored fried chicken to a casual, fast-food environment. Fuku’s stadium and arena locations, including the latest addition at Allegiant Stadium, have made the brand a go-to option for sports fans craving a spicy kick.
Fuku’s return to Allegiant Stadium is part of a larger trend in which celebrity chefs and renowned culinary brands are increasingly collaborating with sports venues to enhance the dining experience for attendees. With Chang’s Fuku now a permanent feature at the Raiders' home turf, fans can expect to see the combination of top-tier food and sports entertainment become a regular part of the game-day experience.
