🎶 ComplexCon Set for Grand Las Vegas Debut with Travis Scott as Headliner and Artistic Director
Las Vegas is preparing to welcome ComplexCon, one of the most significant cultural events blending fashion, music, art, and food, for the first time this November 16-17. Founded in Long Beach, California, in 2016, ComplexCon has quickly become a must-attend event for those passionate about streetwear, cutting-edge fashion, and global music trends. With an anticipated 60,000 visitors heading to the Las Vegas Convention Center’s West Hall, the event is expected to make a substantial splash in Sin City’s already dynamic entertainment landscape.
Travis Scott is set to headline the festival on Sunday and will also take on the role of artistic director for the weekend. Known for his revolutionary approach to music and fashion, Scott will debut CactusCon, which will highlight his Cactus Jack apparel brand. This marks the first time CactusCon will appear at ComplexCon, offering fans access to exclusive merchandise and collaborations, making it a retail hotspot for fashion-forward attendees.
"Travis Scott helped inaugurate the first ComplexCon, and we are excited to welcome him back with an expanded role and as the Sunday night headliner,” said Complex CEO Aaron Levant in a statement. "Travis Scott defines this generation of Complex fans, and we are excited to be working with him in our new home in Las Vegas."
In addition to Scott, Playboi Carti and Opium are slated to perform on November 16, adding to the event’s stellar lineup of musical acts.
Expanding in Size and Scope
This year’s Las Vegas edition of ComplexCon will be the largest in the event’s history, occupying over 1 million square feet—four times the size of past shows in Long Beach. This expansion will allow for more brands, unique activations, and immersive experiences, all designed to cater to attendees' diverse interests.
ComplexCon is known for its exclusive merchandise drops, a key draw for visitors who want to grab limited-edition clothing, footwear, and accessories from both established and emerging brands. Over three dozen brands are expected to showcase their products, and with Scott’s Cactus Jack bringing in even more high-profile collaborations, attendees can anticipate a massive retail experience.
Levant has compared ComplexCon to a modern-day iteration of the World’s Fair, offering a space where art, fashion, and music intersect to shape culture. “It’s more than a convention,” Levant noted during a preview event at Zouk Nightclub at Resorts World Las Vegas. “It’s a cultural experience where fans of the Complex universe can engage with their favorite brands, artists, and creators all in one place.”
The event is slated to become a yearly fixture in Las Vegas, with ComplexCon signing a three-year contract with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) to host the event at the Convention Center. Levant envisions the event growing and evolving each year, offering fresh experiences that reflect the latest trends in global pop culture.
Retail Bonanza and Exclusive Drops
At its core, ComplexCon is a retail paradise for streetwear aficionados. The event allows ticket holders access to exclusive merchandise from both independent designers and household names in the fashion world. Previous events have seen the likes of Nike, Adidas, Fear of God, Off-White, and Supreme offering unique items available only to ComplexCon attendees.
With the introduction of CactusCon, Travis Scott’s imprint on the event will be felt across the venue, with attendees eagerly anticipating what exclusive collaborations and drops his Cactus Jack brand will reveal.
A New Cultural Hub in Las Vegas
ComplexCon’s move to Las Vegas represents a natural fit for a city that thrives on merging entertainment, nightlife, and spectacle. As Las Vegas continues to expand its offerings beyond gambling and traditional entertainment, events like ComplexCon highlight the city’s growing appeal as a hub for contemporary culture.
The Las Vegas Convention Center’s West Hall provides the ideal backdrop for the event's massive expansion, and attendees are encouraged to prepare for a lot of walking as they navigate the sprawling layout. The additional space will allow for more immersive experiences, art installations, and pop-up shops, making it a true cultural playground for fans.
ComplexCon’s Impact on Las Vegas
ComplexCon’s arrival in Las Vegas is poised to deliver an economic boost to the city, drawing in tens of thousands of visitors who will not only attend the event but also stay in hotels, dine at restaurants, and explore other attractions the city offers. The partnership with the LVCVA solidifies ComplexCon’s importance in the city’s push to attract large-scale cultural events and conventions.
For Las Vegas, an event like ComplexCon helps cement its place as a forward-thinking destination that embraces modern trends in entertainment, fashion, and technology. The event aligns with the city’s efforts to diversify its offerings and appeal to a broader, younger demographic.
With ComplexCon and other high-profile events on the horizon, Las Vegas is quickly becoming a go-to destination for contemporary culture, providing a perfect mix of entertainment, innovation, and retail for locals and visitors alike.
🏀 Las Vegas Aces Avoid Elimination, Defeat New York Liberty 95-81 to Force Game 4
With their season on the line, the Las Vegas Aces delivered a dominant performance, defeating the New York Liberty 95-81 on Friday at Michelob Ultra Arena to stave off elimination and force a Game 4 in the WNBA semifinals. Coach Becky Hammon’s confidence in her team proved justified, as the Aces finally secured their first win over the Liberty this season, cutting New York’s series lead to 2-1.
1. A Balanced Attack Sparks Aces' Victory
Jackie Young led the Aces with 24 points, while Kelsey Plum added 20 and Chelsea Gray contributed 10 points and seven assists. Reigning WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson recorded a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Sixth Player of the Year Tiffany Hayes scored 11 points off the bench. The Aces outscored the Liberty 42-28 in the paint and held New York to just six points in the third quarter, pulling away with a decisive 16-0 run.
Hammon praised her team for their best performance of the season, a game she had been waiting to see. “I thought that was probably our most complete game of the season,” she said after the win.
2. Defensive Adjustments Pay Off
The Aces’ defensive intensity was crucial, particularly their ability to contain Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu. Ionescu, who scored over 20 points in each of the first two games, was held to just four points, going scoreless until the fourth quarter. Hammon had previously expressed the need to improve defensively against Ionescu, and after Friday’s game, she gave her team an “A-plus” for their efforts.
New York’s Breanna Stewart led her team with 19 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Aces’ balanced attack and defensive pressure.
3. Record-Setting Win at Home
Friday’s win marked the Aces’ 12th straight postseason victory at home, setting a new WNBA record. The previous record was shared by the Los Angeles Sparks (2001-04) and Sacramento Monarchs (2003-06). The energy from the home crowd played a significant role in the victory, with Liberty coach Sandy Brondello acknowledging the impact. “It was loud,” Brondello said, noting how her team struggled to communicate in the hostile environment.
Despite the win, Hammon expressed frustration with the officiating, specifically regarding Wilson’s lack of free-throw attempts. Wilson, who played 33 minutes, only shot two free throws, a fact Hammon called “ridiculous.”
Looking Ahead to Game 4
With the series now 2-1, the Aces have the momentum heading into Game 4 on Sunday at Michelob Ultra Arena. Facing elimination once again, they’ll look to replicate their defensive success and balanced scoring to force a decisive Game 5 back in New York.
Key Stats:
Jackie Young: 24 points
Kelsey Plum: 20 points
A’ja Wilson: 19 points, 14 rebounds
Tiffany Hayes: 11 points off the bench
Breanna Stewart (Liberty): 19 points
Game 4 is set for noon on Sunday, with the Aces aiming to continue their push for a return to the WNBA Finals.
✈ Why Harry Reid International Airport Skipped Terminal 2 and What's Next
Visitors to Las Vegas often wonder why Harry Reid International Airport (formerly McCarran International Airport) has a Terminal 1 and a Terminal 3, but no Terminal 2. The answer dates back to a series of pivotal decisions made in the 2000s and early 2010s, as the airport evolved to accommodate increasing air traffic, particularly international flights.
The Decision to Expand
In the mid-2000s, as the U.S. economy inched toward the Great Recession, the Clark County Commission faced a difficult decision: whether or not to move forward with a bold $2.4 billion investment in a new terminal building. Despite the economic uncertainties, the commission recognized that the existing airport infrastructure was insufficient, particularly for the growing number of international arrivals that had picked up after a post-9/11 slowdown.
At the time, the airport had two terminals:
Terminal 1, which was the main hub for domestic flights.
Terminal 2, a smaller facility with just three gates that opened in 1991. It primarily handled international and charter flights but lacked the modern amenities needed to meet rising demands.
The Birth of Terminal 3
In response, the county greenlit the construction of what would become Terminal 3, designed to accommodate international traffic on the eastern side and domestic carriers on the western side. The new terminal, featuring 14 gates, was strategically located to provide easy access to U.S. Customs and Border Control facilities. This significantly improved the airport's ability to handle international passengers, setting a new standard for efficiency and service.
Terminal 3 officially opened in June 2012, bringing in modern amenities and infrastructure to meet the needs of a growing, global customer base. At first, Terminal 2 remained operational, serving mostly charter flights. However, as Terminal 3’s usage increased, the decision was made to close Terminal 2. In 2014, Terminal 2 was demolished.
The Numbering Confusion
With the opening of Terminal 3 and the subsequent demolition of Terminal 2, the airport was left with an unusual numbering system: a Terminal 1 and a Terminal 3, but no Terminal 2. While this created some confusion for travelers unfamiliar with the airport’s history, airport officials decided not to change the numbering system at the time.
The Future: Terminal Renaming on the Horizon
A change is finally expected in the near future. On October 2, the Clark County Department of Aviation outlined an expansion plan that includes growing Terminal 1 from 39 gates to 65, a major upgrade to handle increased air traffic.
Once the expansion is completed, airport officials plan to rebrand Terminal 3 as Terminal 2, eliminating the confusion over the missing terminal. This will restore a more logical progression in the airport’s terminal numbering, reflecting the changes that have taken place over the last decade.
Conclusion
Harry Reid International Airport’s current lack of a Terminal 2 is a result of the airport’s ongoing development and response to growing passenger demands. With future expansions planned and the renaming of Terminal 3 to Terminal 2, the airport is preparing to meet the needs of both domestic and international travelers while clarifying its terminal designations.
In the years ahead, Las Vegas visitors will no longer need to puzzle over the missing terminal, as the renaming will bring a more coherent structure to this bustling transportation hub.
🎰 Light & Wonder Begins Removal of Dragon Train Slot Machines Following Court Order
Las Vegas gaming equipment manufacturer Light & Wonder has begun removing its approximately 2,200 Dragon Train-themed slot machines from North American casinos in compliance with a court order issued in September. The company is removing the games after U.S. District Court Judge Gloria Navarro granted Aristocrat Technologies Inc. an injunction, claiming that Dragon Train illegally used intellectual property developed for Aristocrat’s popular Dragon Link and Lightning Link games.
Despite the setback, Light & Wonder plans to introduce alternative branded machines and continue developing Dragon Train 2.0, a revised version of the game. Matt Wilson, CEO of Light & Wonder, stated that the designer of Dragon Train is no longer with the company and confirmed they will comply with the court’s October 23 deadline to remove the machines.
Compliance and Future Plans
Wilson acknowledged that the Dragon Train machines represent a small fraction of the company’s total market presence, accounting for about 5% of its installed gaming units. He expressed confidence in replacing Dragon Train machines with games from Light & Wonder’s existing portfolio, which includes titles such as Ultimate Fire Link, Dancing Drums, and Wizard of Oz.
“We’re working very diligently with our customers to convert those games out in compliance with the judge’s order,” Wilson said. He also noted that despite the ruling, there have been no removal requests from their customers, and the company is already planning to backfill with alternative game titles.
Stock Impact and Investor Confidence
The court’s decision caused Light & Wonder’s stock to plunge, wiping out $1.3 billion in market value as shares fell from $113.72 to $90.41 on September 24. However, the stock has since rebounded slightly, closing at $93.39 on Friday. Despite the drop, analysts like Barry Jonas of Truist Securities remain optimistic, maintaining a "buy" rating on Light & Wonder’s stock. Jonas believes that the issue is isolated to the Dragon Train game and is unlikely to have a long-term impact on the company’s overall revenue targets.
Light & Wonder continues to engage with casino operators to replace the Dragon Train slots with other titles, reinforcing investor confidence in the company’s ability to mitigate losses and remain competitive.
Legal and Financial Investigations
In parallel, Hagens Berman, a San Francisco-based law firm, has begun investigating potential wrongdoing by Light & Wonder, looking into whether the company misled investors regarding its gaming revenue growth and use of Aristocrat’s intellectual property. The investigation could lead to a class-action lawsuit on behalf of shareholders if it is found that Light & Wonder knowingly violated IP laws or misrepresented its financial health.
Hagens Berman cited the court’s statement that Aristocrat is "extremely likely to succeed" in proving that Light & Wonder misappropriated trade secrets, potentially developing Dragon Train without the equivalent time and investment.
What’s Next?
As Light & Wonder works to remove the disputed games and roll out replacements, the company will continue to navigate the legal and financial ramifications of the court order. The upcoming Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas next week is expected to provide further insight into Light & Wonder’s future strategies as industry leaders gather to showcase new products and developments.
Despite these challenges, the company remains committed to delivering innovative gaming experiences while addressing legal and financial concerns.
