🎭 Summerlin Festival of Arts Welcomes Hundreds for a Weekend of Art, Culture, and Live Demonstrations
The Summerlin Festival of Arts has made its highly anticipated return to The Lawn at Downtown Summerlin this weekend, marking the 28th year of this beloved event. Running from Friday through Sunday, the festival brings together a diverse range of artistic talents, featuring over 100 artists, some making their debut while others are festival veterans.
Danielle Bisterfeldt, senior vice president of marketing and consumer experience for Summerlin, expressed excitement over the growing popularity of the event. “We received more applications than ever this year, so we know the festival has a great reputation within the regional arts community as a top-notch event for both artists and shoppers,” Bisterfeldt said in a press release.
The festival offers visitors an eclectic mix of artwork, including traditional watercolor paintings, wood carvings, collages, and sculptures. This year, the festival has also partnered with the First Friday Foundation, known for its popular monthly art and food event in the Las Vegas Arts District. As part of this collaboration, local artists will be doing live paintings throughout the festival, offering attendees the chance to witness art in action.
Showcasing Local Talent
One of the standout artists this year is Andrea Knox, who specializes in landscape painting. At the festival, she is recreating a landscape scene from Bryce Canyon based on a photo she captured during her travels. Her live painting sessions have drawn much attention from festival-goers, offering a personal glimpse into her creative process.
Another new participant in the festival, Damien Jones, has impressed attendees with his large-scale sculptural pieces, some of which incorporate water features. One of his more intricate pieces consists of multiple plates stacked on glass marbles that act as ball bearings, allowing water to flow from the top plate to the bottom. Festival attendees are invited to rotate the plates to their preferred position, adding an interactive element to his artwork.
Jones' favorite creation is an hourglass-shaped sculpture with a ball of Brazilian quartz at its center. The white-textured piece took him a month to design and create, involving a meticulous process of computer design, foam modeling, clay work, and kiln firing.
A Family Affair: Handmade Wooden Spoons
Across the festival grounds, another tent is showcasing handmade wooden spoons from Spoonwright, a family-run business based in Fremont, Utah. Austin Anderson, alongside his father and brother, hand-carves each spoon from various wood types, including pecan, peach, apricot, pistachio, and mesquite. Anderson has been a regular at the Summerlin Festival of Arts for the past five or six years, and his intricate craftsmanship has continued to evolve.
“When I first started off, they were pretty funky looking. I wouldn’t say they looked very good,” Anderson admitted with a laugh. “But over time, the more you carve, they kind of get more symmetrical, and you have to relearn to make them funky again because people like the look of that.”
Recycled Propaganda and Political Art
Another returning artist is Izaac Zevalking from Recycled Propaganda, an art and apparel shop known for its provocative and politically charged pieces. This is Zevalking’s seventh year at the festival, and his work continues to engage and challenge viewers. One of his newer pieces is a collage made from election mailers he has received over the past four years, with phrases like “Vote Yes to Question 1” woven into the design. The piece reflects a sense of being overwhelmed by the constant flood of political messaging during election season.
Zevalking’s work also critiques the influence of money in politics. One of his standout pieces is a cigarette pack with the words “Lobbying: Money kills morals” emblazoned across it. The artist draws a connection between the harmful effects of smoking and the corrosive power of money in the political system.
Watercolor Artists and Southwest Inspiration
Robert Fleming, a staple of the festival since its inception, is once again displaying his traditional watercolor paintings, which capture the beauty of the desert landscapes in the Southwest. His work features wildlife such as bighorn sheep, goats, roadrunners, and hummingbirds, all rendered in the delicate hues of watercolor.
Fleming’s wife, Nancy Ryan, is also showcasing her work nearby. Ryan uses acrylic paint, drawing inspiration from the same landscapes but infusing her pieces with bold colors and energetic brushstrokes. Her dynamic style contrasts beautifully with Fleming’s more subtle watercolor work, making their tent a vibrant destination for art lovers.
Pottery and Playful Designs
Billye Singer, a returning artist for the fourth time, adds a playful touch to functional pottery. She creates serving plates, mugs, and whimsical salt and pepper shakers, often featuring quirky designs. One of her most popular sets includes cowboy-themed salt and pepper shakers with thick mustaches, a fun twist on the traditional pieces.
Singer explained that the unpredictability of working with pottery makes it unique. “This is the only artwork I can think of where, when you’re done, you throw it in a fire,” she said, referring to the kiln-firing process. For her, what is typically seen as a destructive force becomes transformative, turning raw materials into beautiful, functional works of art.
Singer noted that the festival has helped her build a loyal clientele over the years, with many customers returning annually to purchase her latest creations.
Festival Logistics
The Summerlin Festival of Arts is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free, and parking is available throughout the Downtown Summerlin shopping center. The closest parking garage to The Lawn, where the festival is held, is the North Parking Garage on Festival Plaza Drive, located near the 215 Beltway and Summerlin Centre Drive.
With a wide variety of art, live demonstrations, and local talent on display, the festival promises to be a highlight of the fall season for art lovers and shoppers alike.
🏒 Golden Knights' Top Line Shines in 4-3 Victory Over Blues
The Vegas Golden Knights’ top line, featuring Jack Eichel, Ivan Barbashev, and Mark Stone, continued their red-hot start to the season in a 4-3 win against the St. Louis Blues on Friday night at T-Mobile Arena. The trio combined for six points, with Eichel and Barbashev each recording a goal and an assist, while Stone added two assists. Their dominant play has been a key factor in the Knights’ perfect start to the season.
Top Line Continues to Deliver
Through just two games, the Eichel-Barbashev-Stone line has accumulated 17 points, propelling the Knights to back-to-back wins at home. Of the Knights’ 12 goals this season, six have come from this top trio, showcasing their early chemistry and offensive firepower. Eichel and Barbashev have been particularly impactful, each notching a goal and an assist on Friday. Stone’s playmaking abilities were on full display as he chipped in with two assists, including a highlight-reel pass to set up Barbashev's goal late in the first period.
“It’s been good. We want to continue to get better,” Eichel said after the game. “I think there were a couple other chances we would’ve liked to finish, but overall, it was a good effort from our team.”
The Knights have started the season strong offensively, tallying 12 goals in their first two games, including a high-scoring 8-4 win over the Colorado Avalanche on opening night. The offensive burst from the top line has been crucial, especially as the team works to fine-tune the contributions from other lines.
Knights Control the Game Early
St. Louis struck first when center Pavel Buchnevich scored 6:47 into the game, but the Knights quickly responded. Just over a minute later, Eichel tied the game 1-1, slipping past defenders after receiving a smooth feed from Barbashev. Eichel’s forehand-to-backhand move beat Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington to even the score.
The Knights took the lead at 18:13 of the first period, thanks to another transition play. Eichel found Stone, who made a slick behind-the-back pass to a cutting Barbashev. The former Blue wasted no time flicking the puck over Binnington’s right shoulder to make it 2-1. Barbashev's tally marked his third goal in just two games, a continuation of his hot start.
“He’s easy to read off of, right?” Eichel said of Barbashev’s play. “He wins a lot of battles, he’s good on the walls. He’s got some underrated hands and scores in tight. He does all the little things that, as a centerman, makes my job a lot easier.”
Defensive Stand and Key Moments
The Knights extended their lead twice more during the game, with goals from defenseman Shea Theodore in the second period and center Nicolas Roy in the third. Theodore, who had another strong performance, scored just 2:55 into the second to give the Knights a 3-1 advantage. His offensive contributions from the blue line have been instrumental in the team's success so far, following up his three-assist performance against Colorado with another multipoint night.
However, the Blues refused to back down. Buchnevich added his second goal of the night to cut the lead to 3-2, and later, Robert Thomas capitalized on a breakaway in the third period to bring the score to 4-3 with just under five minutes remaining. Despite the momentum shift, the Knights held strong in the final minutes. They successfully killed off a penalty with 4:12 left in regulation and applied heavy pressure in the neutral zone to keep Binnington from leaving the net for an extra attacker.
Head coach Bruce Cassidy praised the team’s focus in the final stretch, particularly after letting up late-game goals. “We were really dialed in playing winning hockey at the end,” Cassidy said. “That’s a real positive this time of the year. I was really proud of the guys at the end for getting it done and dialing it up in those key moments.”
Theodore and Roy Step Up
In addition to the strong play from the top line, Shea Theodore’s performance has been a highlight for the Knights. After missing a large portion of last season due to injury, Theodore looks to be back at full strength and playing with confidence. Paired with fellow defenseman Alex Pietrangelo, Theodore has been a key figure in both ends of the ice, contributing to the Knights’ offensive surge while helping shut down top opposing forwards.
Theodore's assist on Roy’s goal in the third period helped solidify the Knights' lead, marking his second consecutive multipoint game. His strong early form is a promising sign for Vegas, particularly with this being a contract year for the star defenseman.
“It felt good. I think our group was very opportunistic,” Theodore said. “There’s definitely things to clean up, but overall, I think it was a great effort from everyone.”
Roy, who scored his first goal of the season on Friday, was celebrating a personal milestone as well. The 27-year-old center played in his 300th NHL game, 293 of which have been with the Knights. Acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes in 2019, Roy has developed into a reliable two-way player for Vegas, contributing across multiple lines when needed.
Schwindt Makes NHL Debut
Friday’s game also marked a special moment for forward Cole Schwindt, who made his Golden Knights debut. Schwindt, claimed off waivers from the Calgary Flames earlier in the week, picked up his first NHL point with an assist on Theodore’s second-period goal. His family made the 20-hour drive from Calgary to Las Vegas to witness the occasion.
“It’s something I’ve dreamed about my whole life just to play in the NHL,” Schwindt said. “To be out there and get my first point is something I’ll never forget.”
Schwindt skated on the fourth line with Tanner Pearson and Keegan Kolesar and looked solid in his first game with the team.
Looking Ahead
The Golden Knights (2-0-0) will aim to build on their fast start as the season progresses. With their top line firing on all cylinders, they have positioned themselves as early contenders in the Western Conference. However, as coach Bruce Cassidy pointed out, the Knights will need contributions from all four lines to maintain their success over the long haul.
“We’ve relied on our top guys, and they’ve delivered,” Cassidy said. “But we’re going to need everyone to step up as the season goes on.”
The Knights will look for continued strong performances from Theodore, Hill, and other key players as they prepare for their next challenge.

✈ Aero Brings Semi-Private Jet Experience to Las Vegas with Scheduled Flights Starting in December
An airline bridging the gap between first-class commercial flights and private charter jets is set to offer scheduled weekend service from Los Angeles to Las Vegas starting in December. Los Angeles-based Aero will introduce a semi-private, premium flying experience using 16-passenger, twin-engine Embraer ERJ135 jets, providing a more exclusive alternative to standard airline travel.
Aero's regular service will begin on December 27, operating flights between Van Nuys Airport and Las Vegas on Fridays and Sundays. The airline will also make its mark ahead of this by offering a special round trip for the highly anticipated Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix next month. This special flight, dubbed “Jet In, Jet Out,” will bring passengers to Las Vegas for the November 23 race and return them to Los Angeles on November 24 at 2:20 a.m., the first departure after the event from Harry Reid International Airport.
New Las Vegas Weekend Service
Starting in December, Aero's scheduled flights will offer travelers a high-end, semi-private experience at a more accessible price than traditional private charters. Flights departing from Van Nuys Airport will take off at 2:30 p.m. on Fridays, returning from Las Vegas at 4:30 p.m. On Sundays, the flights will depart Van Nuys at 10:30 a.m., returning from Las Vegas at 12:20 p.m. The journey is just over an hour, with one-way tickets priced at $777.
“We call ourselves semi-private,” said Aero’s Chief Operating Officer, Mikael Pelet. “What Aero offers is an ultra-premium experience. We pride ourselves on delivering a private-like experience, but at a fraction of the cost. Not only a fraction of the financial cost, but also a fraction of the environmental impact of flying fully private.”
Elevated In-Flight Experience
Aero is known for providing a premium experience with a range of luxury amenities. Each passenger can check two bags, including oversized items like golf clubs or bicycles, at no extra charge. In-flight meals feature seasonal menus from Erewhon, a renowned Los Angeles organic grocery store, paired with a premium open bar. Passengers also enjoy Starlink Wi-Fi, allowing them to browse the web, work, or stream content during the flight.
The jet’s cabin is designed for maximum comfort, with just two seats across in each row, meaning every passenger has both a window and an aisle seat. The cabin is pet-friendly, allowing passengers to bring their dogs or cats onboard, with complimentary treats available for pets.
Expansion Driven by Customer Demand
Aero’s decision to expand its service to Las Vegas comes in response to customer demand. The airline has built a loyal following through word of mouth and by serving other popular destinations, including Palm Springs, Napa Valley, Los Cabos, Aspen, and Sun Valley. The company also offers private charters to any destination.
Aero initially tested the Las Vegas market in February with special flights for Super Bowl 58 and again for the Coachella Music Festival. The airline now sees Las Vegas as a key destination, particularly with its growing calendar of high-profile events such as Raiders games, major concerts, and festivals.
“We’ve seen tremendous demand for flights to Las Vegas, especially surrounding big events,” said Pelet. “We anticipate adding more flights for major events, like Raiders home games or other large-scale events, beyond our regular weekend service.”
A Semi-Private Flight Model with a Tech-Driven Origin
Aero was originally conceived by Uber co-founder Garrett Camp as a technology platform to streamline the private jet booking process, with the goal of creating an “Uber for jets.” The company has since evolved into its current semi-private commercial air travel model, offering luxury, convenience, and a private feel at a fraction of the cost of traditional private charters.
Flights will operate out of private terminals, further enhancing the exclusive feel of the travel experience. Aero’s Las Vegas flights will arrive and depart from a private terminal at Harry Reid International Airport. While the special Formula One flights will use Signature Aviation’s terminal, the specific terminal for regular scheduled flights starting in December has yet to be determined.
Aero aims to offer a hassle-free experience for passengers, combining convenience, luxury, and a reduced environmental footprint compared to traditional private jet charters. By catering to travelers who seek exclusivity without the exorbitant cost of full private jet service, Aero is poised to tap into a niche market for Las Vegas-bound passengers looking for more personalized travel.
❎ Trump, Goya CEO, and Sam Brown Lead Roundtable on Inflation and Hispanic Issues in Nevada
Former President Donald Trump is set to participate in a roundtable discussion with Hispanic community members in North Las Vegas this afternoon. The event, hosted by Building America’s Future, will focus on economic issues, specifically the impact of the Biden-Harris administration's policies on inflation, a key concern for many Hispanic families and business owners in Nevada.
The roundtable will feature a variety of voices from the Hispanic community, including business owners, union members, and political figures. Trump will be joined by notable attendees such as Republican Senate candidate Sam Brown, Goya Foods CEO Robert Unanue, and Texas congressional candidate Mayra Flores. Together, they will discuss how inflation and other economic challenges have affected Hispanic Nevadans and the broader Latino community.
This event marks a continuation of Trump’s outreach to Hispanic voters, a key demographic in the battleground state of Nevada. Hispanic voters make up a significant portion of the electorate, and Republicans have been increasingly focused on courting this group ahead of the 2024 elections.
Biden-Harris Policies Under Fire
At the heart of the discussion will be the policies of the Biden-Harris administration, which Trump and his supporters argue have contributed to rising inflation. Inflation has hit many Hispanic households hard, driving up costs for essentials like groceries, housing, and fuel. The roundtable participants will share their personal stories about how inflation has affected their families and businesses, with a focus on the economic challenges faced by Hispanic communities.
Republican Senate candidate Sam Brown, who is running for the seat currently held by Democrat Jacky Rosen, is expected to emphasize how Republican policies could help curb inflation and provide relief for working families. Brown has positioned himself as a strong opponent of the current administration’s economic agenda, frequently criticizing rising costs under Biden.
Robert Unanue, CEO of Goya Foods, has been an outspoken supporter of Trump and a frequent critic of the Biden administration. As the head of one of the largest Hispanic-owned food companies in the country, Unanue is expected to highlight how inflation is affecting the food industry and Hispanic consumers.
Mayra Flores, a rising star in the Republican Party and former Texas congresswoman, will also participate in the discussion, likely sharing her perspective on how economic issues resonate with Hispanic voters. Flores has been an advocate for conservative values within the Hispanic community and has focused her messaging on family, faith, and economic opportunity.
Trump’s Nevada Visit Follows Harris’ Stop
Trump’s visit to North Las Vegas comes just two days after Vice President Kamala Harris visited the city to participate in a Univision town hall, where she addressed issues important to Hispanic voters, including the economy, immigration, and healthcare. While Harris focused on defending the administration’s efforts to reduce inflation and create jobs, Trump’s roundtable will offer a starkly different perspective, critiquing those policies and offering Republican alternatives.
Interestingly, both Trump and Harris are expected to participate in the Univision town hall, though Trump will do so remotely from Florida. This presents a unique moment where both figures will attempt to address the concerns of the same voting bloc, underscoring the importance of the Hispanic community in the upcoming election.
Hispanic Voters as a Key Focus
The Hispanic electorate has become a pivotal voting bloc in recent elections, especially in swing states like Nevada, where they make up about 20% of the voter base. Both parties are working hard to secure their support in 2024. Trump’s outreach efforts, combined with recent polls showing some Hispanic voters shifting toward the Republican Party, underscore the importance of events like today’s roundtable.
The former president’s team is focusing on key economic concerns, such as inflation and job creation, which resonate deeply within the Hispanic community. Trump’s campaign is also emphasizing conservative values, such as support for small businesses, law enforcement, and religious freedom, which have found growing support among some Hispanic voters.
Nevada, which Trump narrowly lost in both the 2016 and 2020 elections, remains a critical battleground for 2024. By holding events like this roundtable, Trump aims to build momentum with Hispanic voters, who could play a decisive role in determining the state’s electoral outcome.
