๐จ Summerlin Festival of Arts Celebrates 28th Year with Over 100 Artists Showcasing Creativity
The Summerlin Festival of Arts returned to The Lawn at Downtown Summerlin this weekend, celebrating its 28th year as a staple in the local arts community. Running from Friday through Sunday, the event features over 100 artists, showcasing a diverse range of artistic creations, from traditional watercolor paintings to intricate wood carvings and sculptures.
According to Danielle Bisterfeldt, senior vice president of marketing and consumer experience for Summerlin, this yearโs festival attracted more applications than ever before, highlighting its growing reputation as a premier event for both artists and art enthusiasts. Many artists are veterans of the festival, while others are participating for the first time, offering a fresh mix of creativity.
Among the featured artists is Andrea Knox, who is displaying her landscape recreations inspired by Bryce Canyon. Another standout is Damien Jones, a newcomer to the festival, known for his large sculptural pieces, some incorporating water features. One of his signature works is a dynamic hourglass-shaped sculpture with a central Brazilian quartz stone, meticulously crafted over a month using a variety of techniques, including digital design and kiln firing.
In addition to sculptures and paintings, Austin Anderson from Spoonwright showcases hand-carved wooden spoons, made from various types of trees such as pecan and apricot. Anderson, who works alongside his family, adds a personal touch to each spoon, embracing a balance between symmetry and the organic "funky" aesthetic that many of his customers appreciate.
Another returning artist, Izaac Zevalking of Recycled Propaganda, presents politically charged collages that provoke thought on topics like election season and lobbying. One of his notable pieces is made from election mailers, symbolizing the overwhelming nature of modern political campaigns.
Longtime participant Robert Fleming brings his Southwest-inspired watercolor paintings to the event, featuring local wildlife like bighorn sheep and hummingbirds. His wife, Nancy Ryan, also contributes with her bold acrylic works that draw on similar desert themes. Pottery artist Billye Singer returns as well, selling functional and quirky pieces like salt and pepper shakers shaped as mustached cowboys.
The festival has become an annual tradition for many artists, allowing them to build a loyal clientele and reconnect with returning visitors. As the event continues through the weekend, attendees can enjoy the art from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking is free and available throughout the Downtown Summerlin shopping center.
๐ Former Goalie Logan Thompson Shines as Capitals Defeat Golden Knights 4-2
The Vegas Golden Knights suffered their first loss of the season on Tuesday, falling 4-2 to the Washington Capitals. A series of defensive lapses in the second period allowed the Capitals to score three goals in just over three minutes, a pattern coach Bruce Cassidy referred to as โpockets of hockey,โ which has plagued the team since last season.
โWe made it tough on ourselves,โ defenseman Alex Pietrangelo said, noting that the Knights didnโt execute their game plan as intended.
Despite goals from Jack Eichel and Victor Olofsson, goaltender Adin Hill allowed four goals on 22 shots, marking the second time in three games he has given up four goals. Meanwhile, former Knights goaltender Logan Thompson, now with Washington, earned his first win of the season by making 24 saves against his former team.
The Knights escaped the first period tied 1-1 after Olofssonโs power-play goal answered an early strike from Washingtonโs Jakub Vrana. But the second period unraveled quickly. A string of penalties led to a power-play goal by Tom Wilson, followed by two rapid goals from Aliaksei Protas and Jakob Chychrun, putting the Capitals up 4-1.
Eichel managed to cut the deficit to 4-2 just over a minute later, but the Knights couldnโt find another breakthrough. Despite outshooting the Capitals 26-22, the Knights fell victim to those costly defensive lapses.
After the game, coach Cassidy acknowledged the toll the penalty kill took on his top players, particularly Eichel and captain Mark Stone, who were relied on heavily in the absence of support from the secondary lines.
Adding to their woes, Olofsson left the game late in the third period with an apparent leg injury, and was later seen on crutches. If Olofsson misses time, Brendan Brisson could step in.
The Knights, now 3-1-0, will face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday as they continue their three-game road trip.

๐ The Venetian Expands Dining Scene with Via Via Food Hall, Opening Mid-2025
Las Vegas is adding another food hall to its growing roster, with The Venetian announcing the debut of Via Via, set to open in mid-2025. This latest dining hotspot will be located off the Grand Colonnade and will feature a diverse lineup of celebrated food purveyors. Via Via joins at least five other food halls that have opened on and off the Strip in the past two years, further solidifying Las Vegasโ status as a culinary destination.
Hereโs a sneak peek at the eight vendors confirmed for Via Via:
AllโAntico Vinaio: A legendary Florentine sandwich shop known for its chewy Tuscan flatbread, schiacciata, packed with a variety of meats, cheeses, and vegetables. This will be its second Vegas location after opening in the UnCommons development in 2023.

Close Company: The founders of Death & Co., a pioneer in the modern cocktail movement, are launching their first West Coast location of this intimate cocktail bar, with additional branches planned in Nashville and Atlanta.
Howlinโ Rayโs: A Los Angeles favorite, this Nashville hot chicken spot, run by Chef Johnny Ray Zone and his wife Amanda Chapman, will serve heat levels ranging from no-spice โCountryโ to the blazing โHowlinโ.โ
Ivan Ramen: Chef Ivan Orkin, a Long Island native who made waves with his ramen shops in Tokyo and New York, brings his acclaimed noodles and izakaya-style dishes to Vegas.
Scarrโs Pizza: This New York City pizzeria, known for milling its own flour, will offer a selection of pizzas, though the exact menu for Las Vegas has yet to be confirmed.
Turkey and the Wolf & Mollyโs Rise and Shine: Chef Mason Hereford brings his two New Orleans favorites. Turkey and the Wolf, known for quirky comfort food like chicken pot pie empanadas, and Mollyโs Rise and Shine, a breakfast spot celebrated for its inventive biscuit sandwiches, will both have a home at Via Via.
