🗳️ Mail-In Ballots and Early Voting Totals Highlight Key Trends in Nevada’s Swing State Status
The first day of early voting in Nevada saw a larger turnout of Republican voters compared to Democrats, according to statewide data. Of the total ballots cast on Saturday, 52.8 percent were from registered Republicans, while 28.1 percent were from registered Democrats, and 19.2 percent were from voters not affiliated with either party. Despite Democrats having approximately 20,000 more registered voters statewide as of October 1—593,223 Democrats versus 574,270 Republicans—the GOP had a notable early advantage.
Early Voting Turnout Data
The Nevada Secretary of State’s office reported that 42,237 early voters cast ballots in person across the state on Saturday. In Clark County, the most populous region in Nevada, 29,943 voters participated in early voting, surpassing the 28,000 in-person voters recorded on the first day of early voting in the 2020 election. This turnout indicates a strong start for the early voting period, especially among Republicans.
Washoe County, which is the second-largest voting region outside of Clark County, recorded 6,690 in-person voters on Saturday, further contributing to the overall turnout.
Comparing Voter Turnout: 2024 vs. 2020
The Republican turnout was notable considering a shift from the previous election cycle. During the 2020 election, 40.37 percent of early votes on the first day came from registered Democrats, while 42.01 percent came from Republicans, and 17.62 percent came from non-affiliated voters. In contrast, Saturday’s numbers show a decline in Democrat turnout, with a 12.27 percentage point decrease compared to the same period in 2020.
In Clark County, Democratic voter turnout on Saturday also declined significantly, representing a 14.2 percentage point drop compared to the first day of early voting in 2020. In this county, 49.2 percent of the early voters were Republicans (14,750 votes), while Democrats made up 30.5 percent (9,146 votes), and other voters accounted for 20.2 percent (6,064 votes).
This marks a shift from 2020, when Democrats in Clark County cast 44.7 percent of early votes, Republicans cast 37.7 percent, and unaffiliated or third-party voters contributed 17.6 percent of the total.
Potential Implications for the Presidential Election
Early voting trends are significant in Nevada, a key swing state where recent presidential races have been decided by narrow margins. With six electoral votes up for grabs, the strong Republican turnout could influence whether Vice President Kamala Harris or former President Donald Trump secures Nevada’s votes in the upcoming election. The early voting numbers may be an indication of Republican momentum, although the results will ultimately depend on total voter turnout across all voting methods, including mail-in ballots.
Mail-In Ballots and EASE Submissions
The U.S. Postal Service received 67,288 mail-in ballots on Saturday. However, counting for mail-in ballots does not begin until Monday, and results will not be released until after polls close on Election Day. These mail-in votes are expected to play a crucial role in determining the final outcomes, especially as Democrats have traditionally leaned heavily on mail-in voting.
Additionally, nearly 2,000 ballots were submitted through the EASE system, an absentee voting option available to military members, overseas citizens, disabled Nevada residents, and tribal members residing on Indian colonies or reservations. Clark County reported these EASE submissions on Saturday, reflecting the state’s commitment to ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in the voting process.
Weekend Voting Continues in Clark and Washoe Counties
Only early voting sites in Clark and Washoe counties were open on Sunday, with no immediate updates on turnout available at the time of publication. Early voting in Nevada will continue leading up to Election Day, giving all registered voters multiple opportunities to participate and potentially shift the trends observed on the first day.
🏈 Raiders’ Self-Destructive Streak Continues with 20-15 Loss to Rams
The Las Vegas Raiders had a golden opportunity to rebound against the struggling Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. With the Rams sitting at 1-4 and the game taking place at SoFi Stadium—a venue filled with a large contingent of Raiders fans from Southern California—the stage was set for the Raiders to snap their two-game losing streak. Instead, familiar mistakes led to a 20-15 loss, extending their skid to three games and leaving their record at 2-5.
As the Raiders prepare for challenging matchups against the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals before their bye week, the outlook for the season grows increasingly bleak. With the arrival of Tom Brady as a minority owner in the franchise, big changes may be on the horizon if the team continues its downward spiral.
Raiders’ Self-Inflicted Wounds Lead to Another Defeat
The Rams, now 2-4, offered the Raiders multiple opportunities to take control of the game, but the Raiders’ own mistakes proved to be their undoing. Veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew, who replaced rookie Aidan O’Connell after he suffered a right thumb injury in the first quarter, was at the center of the team’s struggles. Minshew committed four turnovers, including three interceptions and a costly fumble that was returned for a Rams touchdown.
With just over a minute left in the game, Minshew threw his third interception, sealing the Raiders’ fate. Reflecting on his performance, he acknowledged the impact of his mistakes: “That’s unacceptable. You’ve gotta be smarter with the ball. To have a game where we lose by five points and have four turnovers, that’s critical. And it’s not fair to the rest of the team.”
Minshew’s struggles have been a season-long issue; he leads the NFL with 10 turnovers, including eight interceptions. His second interception on Sunday gave the Rams prime field position at the Raiders’ 31-yard line, leading to a touchdown run by Kyren Williams that extended Los Angeles’ lead to 20-6.
“It’s super frustrating,” Minshew admitted, completing just 15 of his 34 passes for 154 yards. “I’ve never turned the ball over like this in my life.”
Penalties and Mistakes Compound Raiders’ Troubles
While Minshew’s turnovers were costly, he wasn’t the only culprit. The Raiders committed 10 penalties, two of which derailed their only significant scoring opportunities in the red zone. An ineligible player downfield penalty on center Andre James forced the Raiders to settle for a 27-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter, reducing the deficit to 20-12.
A more damaging penalty occurred on a crucial fourth-and-goal play from the 4-yard line. Rookie right tackle DJ Glaze committed a false start, pushing the Raiders back to the 9-yard line. Coach Antonio Pierce decided to take the field goal rather than attempt another play, settling for three points instead of a potential touchdown. The decision was debatable, but the self-inflicted mistakes were not.
“Penalties and turnovers,” Pierce said after the game. “Sounds like a broken record.”
The Raiders' inability to avoid costly mistakes has become their Achilles’ heel. Despite a promising performance from rookie tight end Brock Bowers, who caught a career-high 10 passes for 93 yards, the team could not overcome its own errors. The Raiders’ minus-13 turnover differential is currently the worst in the NFL. During their three-game losing streak, they’ve racked up 25 penalties, compared to just 17 in their first four games.
Running back Alexander Mattison echoed the frustration, emphasizing the need for the team to play cleaner football. “We’ve got to stop beating ourselves,” he said. “We’ve got to clean up the football and put ourselves in position to win. We take ourselves out of position when we let that stuff happen. We just have to get it out of our system.”
Injury Woes and a Tough Road Ahead
The Raiders’ injury troubles continued with rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell exiting early due to a thumb injury. He had completed six of his 10 passes for 52 yards before leaving the game. O’Connell will undergo further testing back in Las Vegas to determine the extent of the injury.
Whether O’Connell returns soon or Minshew remains the starter, the Raiders face a challenging schedule ahead. Their next two games against division rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals, could further test their resilience. A 2-7 record going into their bye week would likely mark another lost season for the franchise, increasing pressure on both players and coaching staff.
The Impact of Tom Brady’s Presence as a Minority Owner
With Tom Brady now in the picture as a minority owner, the team’s performance in the coming weeks could influence organizational changes. Known for his competitive spirit and winning mindset, Brady’s involvement brings heightened scrutiny to the Raiders’ struggles. If the team’s performance does not improve soon, it’s possible that Brady, alongside other decision-makers in the organization, may push for significant changes—potentially involving staff, roster moves, or even adjustments in team strategy.
Coach Antonio Pierce is feeling the pressure. As the Raiders’ interim head coach, his ability to correct the team’s issues and guide them through their upcoming tough matchups could determine his long-term future with the team. However, if the Raiders continue to unravel, it’s likely that the organization will seek a fresh start under new leadership.
What’s Next for the Raiders?
As the Raiders prepare for their upcoming home game against the Chiefs, they must find a way to limit mistakes and capitalize on their opportunities if they hope to salvage the season. With Brady’s presence looming and a fanbase hungry for results, the stakes are high for the team’s next outings. Whether they can turn things around or continue to spiral remains to be seen.

Pulliam previously served as the beverage director for Circa, while O’Donnell gained experience during his time at the iconic cocktail bar, Herbs & Rye. Together, they bring a wealth of expertise and creativity to their new venture, blending their knowledge of classic cocktails with a fresh, playful approach to bar culture.
“We’re not just another bar,” said Pulliam. “We want to be the place where everyone feels at home, whether they’re looking for a great cocktail, a fun atmosphere, or a spot to just hang out with friends.”

One standout is the Sherry Cobbler, a nod to the classics, featuring sherries mixed with pineapple and honey for a refreshing, timeless drink. Another crowd-pleaser is Take It in the Can, which combines tequila, scotch, coconut, and raspberry, served creatively in a tin can for a playful touch. For those seeking a taste of international flavors, Jive Turkey’s Kalimotxo blends red wine, Coke, and Licor 43, adding a hint of vanilla to the popular Spanish concoction.
“Vacation drinks, guilty pleasures, fun shots, and great beer — all have a home on the menu,” the bar shared in a recent announcement. The focus is on fun, flavor, and creativity, providing a range of options that keep patrons coming back for something new.
Delicious Comfort Food With a Twist
Jive Turkey’s food menu is equally enticing, offering a lineup of classic comfort foods with elevated touches. The smashed cheeseburger is a must-try, featuring grilled onions, pickles, and a house-made burger sauce served on a soft potato bun for a flavorful, satisfying bite.
The Chicago Dog is another highlight, showcasing the bar’s own Super Condiment, a proprietary relish that adds a zesty twist to the classic. We’re not here to judge,” said Pulliam. The bar aims to foster an inclusive, relaxed environment where people can unwind and enjoy themselves without any pretense.
O’Donnell echoed the sentiment, emphasizing their goal to create a space that prioritizes great food and drink over any unnecessary fuss. “We’re focusing on flavors and fun, and making sure everyone feels right at home,” he added.
Live Music and Vibes
Adding to its appeal, Jive Turkey plans to introduce live bands in the near future, enhancing the bar’s entertainment offerings and contributing to its dynamic atmosphere.
