🚧 Fatal Pedestrian Accident Outside Red Rock Resort Under Investigation by Nevada Highway Patrol
The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in front of Red Rock Resort on Tuesday night. According to officials, the incident took place around 8:39 p.m. when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at the eastbound entrance of the casino located on Charleston Boulevard.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and the injured pedestrian, identified as an adult male, was transported to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital, police confirmed.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. Preliminary reports indicate that impairment is not suspected, and the investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision. Officials have not yet released the identity of the pedestrian, pending notification of next of kin.
To allow for a thorough investigation, NHP temporarily closed all eastbound lanes of Charleston Boulevard east of the 215 Beltway. The closure caused significant traffic delays as officers worked to collect evidence and interview witnesses. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes while the investigation continued.
Authorities have not yet indicated when the roadway will fully reopen, but they emphasize that their priority is ensuring a comprehensive investigation to understand the factors that led to the fatal crash.
Traffic Accident Details:
Location: The incident occurred at the eastbound entrance of Red Rock Resort, a popular destination for locals and tourists in Summerlin, west of the Las Vegas Strip.
Traffic Impact: The closure of eastbound Charleston Boulevard caused congestion and rerouting for several hours. Police advised drivers to avoid the area and take other routes while the scene was cleared and investigated.
Investigation: Nevada Highway Patrol officers are focusing on witness statements and any surveillance footage from the casino and nearby traffic cameras to reconstruct the event and determine what led to the accident.
Safety Reminder: Authorities used the opportunity to remind both drivers and pedestrians of the importance of remaining alert, especially in busy areas like casino entrances where foot traffic is common.
🏒 Hertl Leads Knights to Dominant 6-1 Win Over Kings, Snaps Losing Streak
Tomas Hertl’s patience paid off on Tuesday night as he led the Vegas Golden Knights to a commanding 6-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings at T-Mobile Arena. Hertl matched his career high with four points, scoring two goals and adding two assists, snapping the Knights' three-game losing streak. This marked his first four-point game since January 17, 2022, when he was still a member of the San Jose Sharks—also against the Kings.
Hertl downplayed his personal success, focusing instead on the team’s overall performance. “I’m more happy, not about the points, but a great win and great performance from our team,” he said.
Captain Mark Stone also shined, contributing a goal and two assists, while defenseman Alex Pietrangelo added three assists. Goaltender Ilya Samsonov was stellar in net, making 32 saves in his second straight start, helping the Knights (4-2-1) improve their record to 4-0 at home.
Knights’ Quick Start Propels Them
After two difficult road losses where the Knights let third-period leads slip against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers, they returned home determined to regain their form. The Knights dominated the first period, scoring three times, including two power-play goals, with Hertl leading the charge.
Hertl opened the scoring at 9:07, following his own rebound on a power play to put the Knights ahead 1-0. Minutes later, he assisted on another power-play goal, which Mark Stone tipped in after a deflection from Noah Hanifin’s shot, making it 2-0. Just 1:21 later, Hertl set up right wing Pavel Dorofeyev’s rebound goal, extending the lead to 3-0.
By the end of the first period, Hertl had already matched his season point total, and his offensive burst set the tone for the rest of the game. Coach Bruce Cassidy praised Hertl's persistence: “I think he knew that he needed to bring a little more offensively. It’s not like he’s not trying. It just takes a while to click. He got going a little bit there.”
Samsonov Shines in Net
Despite the Knights’ offensive explosion, it was goaltender Ilya Samsonov’s performance that held the spotlight. Samsonov, who has posted a .943 save percentage in his first three starts with the Knights, was steady throughout the game, turning away multiple scoring opportunities. His shutout bid was spoiled late in the second period by Warren Foegele, but his overall effort remained solid.
Hertl expressed his admiration for Samsonov’s performance, stating, “I wish we could’ve given (Samsonov) the shutout because he deserved it and he was the best player on our team tonight.”
Strong Finish for the Knights
In the third period, the Knights kept the pressure on. Right wing Alexander Holtz scored his first goal as a Golden Knight just under three minutes into the period, pushing the lead to 4-1. Hertl then netted his second goal of the night midway through the period, and Ivan Barbashev capped off the scoring with a goal of his own with 6:35 left.
The Knights’ four-game homestand is off to a successful start, and they’ll look to carry the momentum into Friday’s matchup against the Ottawa Senators.
Three Key Takeaways:
Korczak’s Impactful Debut
With defenseman Shea Theodore out due to illness, Kaedan Korczak stepped in for his season debut. The 23-year-old defenseman recorded an assist on Dorofeyev’s goal and earned his first point since January 22. Despite being called up at the last minute, Korczak proved effective, balancing his nerves with a big coffee in place of his usual pregame nap.Power Play Precision
The Knights’ power play continued to be a bright spot, converting two of their two opportunities. This success brings their power play efficiency to 36.8 percent for the season, ranking fourth in the NHL. The team has scored a power-play goal in five of their seven games, highlighting its consistent performance as a key to their success.Perfect Penalty Kill
The Knights' penalty kill showed significant improvement, going 4-for-4 against the Kings. The highlight came late in the second period when Samsonov and the defense thwarted a four-minute high-sticking penalty against Nic Hague, blocking shots and making crucial saves. Entering the game ranked 27th in the NHL with a 69.2 percent success rate, the Knights’ penalty kill performance offered a promising sign of progress.

🎰 Venetian and Palazzo to Leave IHG Network: What It Means for Travelers and Rewards Members
The longstanding partnership between the Venetian and Palazzo hotels and InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is set to conclude at the end of this year. This change, effective January 1, 2025, marks the end of a collaboration that began with a 10-year agreement in 2010, which was later extended to a 15-year deal. The arrangement allowed IHG Rewards members to use their points and access exclusive perks while staying at the two luxury properties on the Las Vegas Strip.
The termination of the partnership will result in the removal of 7,092 rooms from IHG’s system, representing approximately 0.7% of the company’s global room inventory by 2025. Despite the number of rooms leaving its portfolio, IHG emphasized that the impact on its overall financial performance will be minimal. According to company representatives, this particular agreement contributed less than $1 million—about 0.1%—of IHG’s fee business revenue in 2023 and had a negligible effect on operating profit.
Elie Maalouf, IHG’s CEO, reassured stakeholders during an earnings call that the termination of the agreement would not affect the company’s profit and loss figures, stressing that the fee structure under this deal was unique and its financial impact was minimal. Maalouf also noted that IHG has evolved significantly since the original agreement was signed 15 years ago, implying that the decision aligns with the company’s current strategy and growth trajectory.
Apollo Global Management, the operator of The Venetian and Palazzo since acquiring them in 2022, has not yet commented on the decision. The company’s future plans for the two properties, and whether they will seek a new affiliation or operate independently, remain unclear.
As the affiliation concludes, travelers accustomed to using IHG rewards at these properties will need to explore alternative options starting next year. It remains to be seen how The Venetian and Palazzo will rebrand their loyalty offerings to fill the gap left by IHG’s departure.
