🏈 Nevada Drivers Offered Free Raiders License Plates for a Limited Time

The Las Vegas Raiders are offering a limited-time promotion for Nevada drivers, giving fans the chance to get a Raiders specialty license plate for free. Through this initiative, the team will cover the initial $61 registration fee for any currently registered Nevada motorist who does not already own a Raiders plate. The offer is available until October 31, and fans can sign up on the Raiders website.

How to Get the Plate

Those interested need to register through the official Raiders website, and the process may take up to 90 days for the plate to be delivered by the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The plate will be shipped directly to the driver’s address. However, fans who participate in this promotion will be responsible for the annual renewal fee of $30, which is in addition to the standard registration renewal costs.

Supporting the Community

According to Kari Uyehara, Executive Director of the Raiders Foundation, the promotion is a way for the team to strengthen its connection with Nevada residents. “The Raiders are proud to call Nevada home, and we encourage motorists to take advantage of this program, which is really a win-win for fans with registered vehicles,” Uyehara said. The Raiders Foundation, which supports various community initiatives, will receive $25 from the initial fee and $20 from each renewal fee for every Raiders plate issued.

Additional Requirements

Drivers with expired vehicle registrations must renew their registration before qualifying for the promotion. The Raiders will not cover replacement costs for any plates damaged during shipping, and drivers are responsible for turning in their old plates at the DMV once they receive their new Raiders plate.

Popularity and Impact

First introduced in 2019, the Raiders specialty plate has proven popular, with 39,699 active registrations as of October 6, 2024, according to DMV data. Between July and September alone, these plates generated $248,417 for the Raiders Foundation.

The Golden Knights specialty plate, another fan favorite in Nevada, raised $201,062 in the same period, with $10 from both the initial and renewal fees going to the Vegas Golden Knights Foundation. There are currently 72,602 active Golden Knights plates on the road.

Specialty Plates: A Booming Trend in Nevada

Specialty license plates remain a popular choice in Nevada, with 397,940 active plates across various designs as of early October. Beyond the Raiders and Golden Knights, plates like the Las Vegas Commemorative (78,893), Lake Tahoe (33,935), and United We Stand (21,324) are also popular.

University-themed plates are also available, with the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) boasting 10,696 plates, compared to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), which has 4,993. Collectively, specialty plates have generated $2.4 million in registration fees for various causes in the first quarter of the fiscal year, showcasing their significant impact.

Key Takeaways:

  • Promotion Deadline: October 31.

  • Initial Cost Covered: Raiders will pay the $61 fee; motorists must cover the $30 annual renewal fee.

  • Registration Requirements: Only available to currently registered vehicles; expired registrations must be renewed first.

  • Community Impact: A portion of each fee supports the Raiders Foundation’s charitable efforts.

🏈 Desmond Ridder Reunites with College Teammate, Prepares for Fresh Start in Vegas

The Las Vegas Raiders have added quarterback Desmond Ridder to their roster, pulling him from the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad following an injury to their backup quarterback, Aidan O’Connell. Ridder’s first text after hearing about the Raiders’ interest was to Tre Tucker, his former college teammate at Cincinnati and a current wide receiver for the Raiders. At first, Tucker thought Ridder was joking, but the news became official the next day when the Raiders, sitting at 2-5, confirmed the signing.

Ridder’s Arrival in Las Vegas

Once the signing was finalized, Ridder contacted Tucker again, asking if he could stay at his place when he arrived in Las Vegas. While Tucker hasn’t confirmed yet, Ridder is currently staying at a hotel. Laughing about the situation, Ridder noted, “He still hasn’t got back to me on that, so I’m at a hotel right now. But we’re working on it.”

This move reflects the unpredictable and fast-paced nature of the NFL. On Wednesday, the quarterback situation for the Raiders was in full display: Ridder spoke to the media for the first time as a Raider, O’Connell exited the locker room with a heavily bandaged thumb, and Gardner Minshew, the current starter, prepared to hold onto his job amidst pressure. Minshew knows that his recent performance, marked by turnovers, could open the door for Ridder to step in as a replacement.

Ridder’s NFL Journey

Ridder, drafted in the third round by the Atlanta Falcons in 2022, has experience with 17 NFL starts. In his 13 starts with the Falcons last year, he threw for 2,836 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions while also rushing for 193 yards and five touchdowns. Despite these contributions, his time in Atlanta ended when the team signed veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins. Shortly afterward, he was traded to the Cardinals for wide receiver Rondale Moore. However, Ridder lost the battle for the backup role behind Kyler Murray to Clayton Tune and was released, though Arizona kept him on their practice squad until the Raiders called.

“I’m just excited to go out there, excited to have the opportunity to play football again,” Ridder expressed about his new opportunity with the Raiders.

Competition and Preparation

Ridder will compete with rookie quarterback Carter Bradley for the backup role behind Minshew. Depending on his grasp of the Raiders’ offensive system, Ridder could be available as early as Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs at Allegiant Stadium. Raiders coach Antonio Pierce emphasized the focus on immediate tasks, stating, “I’ve got my hands full right now with Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes. Worrying about the future is not really what I’m thinking about right now. It’s really getting [Ridder] up to speed. He’s a bright-eyed kid, very smart, very sharp. Fits in well with the room.”

Pressure on Minshew

Minshew’s performance in recent weeks has been shaky. Two weeks ago, he was benched due to his turnover issues, allowing O’Connell to take over. However, after O’Connell’s injury against the Rams, Minshew returned and threw three interceptions and fumbled, leading to a touchdown in a 20-15 loss. With the Raiders on a three-game losing streak, Minshew’s chances to hold onto his starting job are dwindling. His 10 turnovers this season are tied for the most in the NFL.

“We got to protect the ball this week,” Minshew acknowledged. He is currently working on balancing aggressive throws with safer options, knowing that his decision-making is under intense scrutiny. Coach Pierce also emphasized the importance of minimizing mistakes: “Just play another down, allow us to punt, whatever it may be.”

If Minshew continues to struggle with turnovers, the door could open for Ridder to take the field much sooner than anticipated.

Key Takeaways

  • Ridder’s Move: The Raiders signed Desmond Ridder to replace injured backup Aidan O’Connell.

  • Quarterback Competition: Ridder will compete with rookie Carter Bradley for the backup role, with potential to see action soon.

  • Minshew’s Performance: Gardner Minshew faces pressure to reduce turnovers or risk being replaced by Ridder.

  • Coach’s Focus: Antonio Pierce is concentrating on preparing for the upcoming matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs rather than long-term quarterback plans.

From Humble Beginnings to Rapid Growth

Dave’s Hot Chicken started in 2017 with three childhood friends who pooled together $900 to set up a pop-up stand in an East Hollywood parking lot. Using portable fryers and folding tables, they began serving hot chicken, and the concept quickly gained popularity, leading to the opening of their first permanent location.

In 2019, the founders partnered with Bill Phelps, co-founder and former CEO of Wetzel’s Pretzels, to begin franchising their concept. Today, Phelps serves as the CEO of Dave’s Hot Chicken. The brand has since exploded, growing to approximately 215 locations across 30 states and Washington, D.C., as well as several locations in Canada and the Middle East.

Expansion Plans

Dave’s Hot Chicken has already sold the rights for over 1,000 franchise locations in the U.S., Canada, and the Middle East. The company plans to open over 80 new locations this year alone, continuing its trajectory as one of the fastest-growing restaurant chains in the industry.

🏚️ Boulder Highway Revamp: KB Home Invests $19M in New Residential Community

KB Home, one of the largest homebuilders in the Las Vegas Valley, has purchased 20 acres of prime land in the southeast valley for $19 million. The property, located along Boulder Highway, northwest of Henderson and northeast of Harry Reid International Airport, was sold by The Siegel Group. KB Home plans to build a new residential community called Manzano, featuring 229 homes, with construction and sales expected to begin next year.

Development Details

Stephen Siegel, president of The Siegel Group, expressed satisfaction with the deal, highlighting the collaboration with KB Home, a prominent builder known for developing high-quality communities. “We’re thrilled to complete this sale with KB Home, a top-tier builder known for creating exceptional residential communities,” Siegel stated. He noted that despite receiving multiple offers over the past few years for the commercially zoned land, KB Home is moving forward with the entitlement process to rezone it for residential use.

The new Manzano development aims to address the growing demand for housing in the area. Jim McDade, division president for KB Home’s Las Vegas operations, elaborated on the features of the upcoming community. The homes will be designed with modern lifestyles in mind, offering popular amenities such as open-concept kitchens that overlook spacious great rooms, large bedroom suites with walk-in closets, and plenty of storage. The community will offer floor plans with up to five bedrooms and four bathrooms.

Impact on the Area

Clark County Commission Chairman Tick Segerblom hailed the sale as the “start of something big on Boulder Highway,” emphasizing the potential of the development to revitalize the area. The Boulder Highway corridor has been a focus of recent revitalization efforts aimed at transforming it into an affordable residential hub, addressing the housing shortage in the region.

The Las Vegas Valley has faced challenges with housing affordability, as demand continues to outstrip supply. Developers have pointed to the federal government’s control over most of the land in Clark County as a significant barrier, advocating for more timely and financially viable release of land for residential use. KB Home’s new project aims to meet some of this demand by offering new housing options in a strategically located area.

The Siegel Group’s Retained Parcel

While The Siegel Group sold 20 acres of the 27-acre site, it retained 7 acres, which include an existing 186-unit extended-stay hotel and a retail parcel slated for future development. The company, based in Las Vegas, specializes in real estate investment and management, and it plans to explore further development opportunities on the remaining land.

Addressing the Housing Crisis

The Las Vegas real estate market has been grappling with an affordability crisis, driven by limited available housing and rising costs. Private developers have repeatedly called on the federal government to release land parcels under its control more efficiently to facilitate residential projects. With KB Home’s investment and development on Boulder Highway, the Manzano community is expected to provide much-needed relief and support ongoing revitalization efforts.

Key Points to Remember:

  • Land Purchase: KB Home bought 20 acres along Boulder Highway for $19 million from The Siegel Group.

  • New Development: The Manzano community will feature 229 homes, with construction beginning next year.

  • Amenities: Homes will include modern kitchens, expansive great rooms, and floor plans with up to five bedrooms and four baths.

  • Area Impact: The development is part of broader efforts to revitalize Boulder Highway and address the local housing crisis.

  • Siegel Group Plans: The Siegel Group retains 7 acres for further commercial development, including an extended-stay hotel and future retail.
