🏃 Vegas Marathon Route Brings Charleston Blvd Lane Closures Through Early November
Motorists should prepare for potential delays along Charleston Boulevard over the next two weeks as crews begin preparations for the first-ever Las Vegas Marathon, scheduled for November 3. The event, which will start in scenic Red Rock Canyon and continue into downtown Las Vegas, includes three race distances: a full marathon (26.2 miles), a half marathon (13.1 miles), and a 7-mile run.
The full marathon route will take runners from Red Rock Canyon onto state Route 159 (Red Rock Canyon Road), transitioning onto Charleston Boulevard and leading them through Summerlin, all the way to a finish line on Fremont Street near Las Vegas Boulevard. Much of the course will run along public roads, requiring significant setup and teardown activities, which will cause lane closures and traffic disruptions in the lead-up to and following race day.
Lane Closures and Setup Schedule
The rolling schedule below outlines anticipated lane closures, which will mainly occur between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. to minimize daytime disruptions. Crews will progressively move down Charleston Boulevard as they install barriers and signage.
Friday, Oct. 27: Double right lane closures on Charleston westbound from Cimarron Road to just west of Desert Foothills Drive to install barriers. Signage will move along with the installation to warn motorists of upcoming closures.
Saturday, Oct. 28: Lane closures on Charleston westbound between Antelope Way and Cimarron Road for continued barrier installation.
Sunday, Oct. 29: Double right lane closures on Charleston westbound from just west of Hinson Street to Rainbow Boulevard.
Monday, Oct. 30: Double right lane closures on Charleston westbound between Martin Luther King Boulevard and Hinson Street.
Tuesday, Oct. 31: Additional closures will begin in downtown Las Vegas, including parts of Fremont East and the Arts District. Roads will reopen after barrier installation is complete.
Race Day and Teardown Schedule
On race day, November 3, crews will mobilize in downtown Las Vegas, using 7,000-pound telehandlers to place stockpiled railings from noon onwards. These barriers will be fully installed by 6 a.m. on race morning. Following the event, cleanup and barrier removal will begin at 9 p.m. on Charleston Boulevard and continue in the following days.
Friday, Nov. 3 (Race Day): Lane closures will include a double right lane closure on Charleston westbound from Hinson Street to Rainbow Boulevard.
Saturday, Nov. 4: Lane closures from Antelope Way to east of Cimarron Road on Charleston westbound.
Sunday, Nov. 5: Double right lane closures from Hinson Street to Rainbow Boulevard.
Monday, Nov. 6: Lane closures on Charleston between Martin Luther King Boulevard and Hinson.
Tuesday, Nov. 7 – Saturday, Nov. 11: Ongoing double right lane closures on Charleston, with continued closures in downtown Las Vegas, impacting areas like Fremont East and the Arts District.
These closures are expected to cause significant traffic disruptions, especially during nighttime hours. Drivers are advised to plan alternate routes when possible and be mindful of changing conditions along Charleston Boulevard and downtown streets over the coming days.
The Las Vegas Marathon marks a major new sporting event in the area, and officials are working to minimize the impact of the setup and teardown processes on local traffic flow.
🏒 Golden Knights Score Three Goals in 85 Seconds to Overcome Senators
The Vegas Golden Knights pulled off a thrilling late-game comeback to beat the Ottawa Senators 6-4 at T-Mobile Arena on Friday. In a game where momentum shifted rapidly, the Knights scored three goals in just over a minute in the third period to overturn a late deficit, showcasing their resilience.
After struggling to hold onto leads in their recent East Coast road trip, the Knights found themselves in a similar position at home. Trailing 4-3 with just minutes remaining, center Tomas Hertl scored a power-play goal to tie it up with 3:11 left in the game. A minute later, Keegan Kolesar capitalized on a quick transition to put Vegas up 5-4. Ivan Barbashev sealed the win with an empty-net goal, his second of the night, with 1:46 left.
"It wasn’t our best game," said Hertl, who now has three goals over the past two games. "We made some mistakes, but we stayed with it, and that’s what makes us a strong team."
The Knights, now at a 5-2-1 record, didn’t look in sync initially, perhaps due to the unique 3 p.m. Nevada Day start. The Senators (4-3-0) came out aggressive, winning puck battles early and scoring twice to take a 2-0 lead on goals by Adam Gaudette and Claude Giroux. Vegas responded quickly, with Nicolas Roy and Nic Hague scoring 19 seconds apart to level the game late in the first period. However, Ottawa reclaimed momentum moments later when Drake Batherson scored following a costly Knights turnover.
Barbashev tied it up again early in the second period, only for Gaudette to net his second goal on a power play, putting the Senators back on top 4-3. Goaltender Adin Hill, who had allowed four goals in each of his last five starts, rebounded with 35 saves, stopping all 11 third-period shots to keep the Knights within striking distance.
"It’s what good teams do," Hertl added. "It’s a long season, and sometimes, you just have to find ways to win, even when it’s not pretty."
The comeback was a satisfying twist for the Knights, who recently lost leads late in back-to-back games in Florida. They fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning after surrendering a third-period lead and lost in overtime to the Florida Panthers after leading most of the game.
As the team prepares for Saturday’s back-to-back game against the San Jose Sharks, coach Bruce Cassidy will likely have to adjust for a lineup change, as Nic Hague left the game with a lower-body injury in the second period. If Hague can’t play, Kaedan Korczak or Ben Hutton are expected to take his place.
Key Takeaways:
Hague’s Injury
Nic Hague left the game with 4:04 left in the second period due to a lower-body injury. No update on his condition was provided, but the team is expected to release more information following their Saturday morning skate.Theodore’s First Game Since Signing New Contract
Defenseman Shea Theodore had an unremarkable night, finishing at minus-2 in his first game since inking a seven-year, $51.975 million contract extension. Theodore has seven points this season but has struggled to find consistency, being held scoreless in four of his last five games.Amadio’s Return to Vegas
Former Knights right winger Michael Amadio returned to T-Mobile Arena for the first time since signing with Ottawa. Amadio, who played a key role in the Knights' 2023 Stanley Cup run, was welcomed with a video tribute in the first period. However, he remains without a point in seven games for the Senators this season.
The Knights aim to keep their momentum alive against the Sharks, hoping to secure another win as they look to maintain their strong start to the season.

✈️ Airport Welcomes Aer Lingus’ First Las Vegas Flight with Irish-Themed Celebration
Passengers on Aer Lingus’ inaugural flight from Dublin to Las Vegas arrived at Harry Reid International Airport on Friday evening, welcomed with a lively, Irish-themed celebration. The nearly full Airbus A330-300 landed at sunset, carrying 317 passengers on the direct, 10½-hour flight from Dublin. The launch marks Las Vegas’ 20th international destination and is expected to strengthen tourism and cultural connections between Ireland and Southern Nevada.
As passengers stepped off the plane, they were greeted by members of the Sons and Daughters of Erin, a local Irish heritage group known for organizing Henderson’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. Adding to the festivities, four showgirls dressed in two shades of green performed a dance to "Viva Las Vegas" at the baggage claim area, bringing a signature Las Vegas touch to the Irish-themed welcome.
Reid International Senior Director of Aviation James Chrisley and Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority Vice President of Marketing Fletch Brunelle were on hand to welcome the flight’s passengers, offering green champagne and Las Vegas-themed cookies. As a special tribute, the Sphere on the Las Vegas Strip displayed Aer Lingus imagery throughout the night.
Passengers like Cieran and Edel Crawley appreciated the smooth, well-paced flight, which included meals and entertainment, making the lengthy journey feel shorter. “You eat lunch, watch a movie, have dinner, and before you know it you’re there,” Cieran remarked.
Marcella Smyth, Ireland’s consul general to the southwestern United States, attended the event and noted that around 10 percent of Southern Nevada’s population has Irish heritage, making the new route popular for both Las Vegas locals and visitors from Ireland. The route also benefits from a U.S. pre-clearance facility at Dublin Airport, allowing passengers to complete U.S. Customs and Immigration processes before boarding and making for a seamless arrival experience.
This new connection also adds Las Vegas to Aer Lingus’ transatlantic offerings as its 19th international airline partner at Reid International. The seasonal service will operate three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays through April, aiming to capitalize on peak travel times.
The airline, with its iconic shamrock insignia, plans to assess the route’s popularity to potentially expand it beyond the initial seasonal schedule.
🍔 E. Coli Outbreak Linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounders Expands, 75 Sickened Across 13 States
A growing E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounder burgers has now sickened at least 75 people across 13 states, with 22 hospitalizations and one reported death in Colorado, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The outbreak, which originated in late September, is believed to be associated with raw slivered onions on the burgers, though a definitive cause has yet to be confirmed.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) noted that early findings point to uncooked slivered onions as a likely contamination source. Taylor Farms, a California-based produce supplier for McDonald’s, issued a recall for yellow onions this week due to possible E. coli contamination. McDonald’s subsequently removed the affected onions from its supply chain, pulling Quarter Pounders from menus in several states as a precaution. The distribution point receiving Taylor Farms onions for McDonald’s locations involved in the outbreak has not been disclosed.
The CDC reported that Colorado has been the hardest-hit state, with 26 cases. Other affected states include Montana (13 cases), Nebraska (11), New Mexico and Utah (5 each), Missouri and Wyoming (4 each), Michigan (2), and Iowa, Kansas, Oregon, Wisconsin, and Washington (1 each). At least three of the individuals sickened reported eating at McDonald’s while traveling, adding a possible complication to the investigation.
Taylor Farms, which supplies onions to several fast-food chains, recalled the suspect batch of yellow onions and informed its customers directly but did not issue a public recall notification. McDonald’s, which promptly removed the Quarter Pounder in certain locations, has opted not to expand the removal further. Other fast-food companies, including Burger King, Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut, have also pulled onions from specific locations as a precaution. Restaurant Brands International, Burger King’s parent company, confirmed it instructed certain locations to discard Taylor Farms onions, even though no illnesses linked to its restaurants have been reported.
Victims in this outbreak have contracted E. coli O157, a particularly harmful strain known to produce toxins that can lead to severe illness. This strain, responsible for around 74,000 infections in the U.S. annually, can cause severe gastrointestinal symptoms, including fever, vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), and dehydration. Children under five, the elderly, pregnant women, and immunocompromised individuals are at higher risk for complications, such as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a serious kidney condition.
In response to the outbreak, at least one lawsuit has been filed against McDonald’s. A Nebraska woman, Clarissa DeBock, claims she fell ill days after eating at McDonald’s and required emergency medical care, later being diagnosed with an E. coli infection. Symptoms of E. coli infection typically develop within one to two days after consuming contaminated food.
The CDC and FDA are urging consumers who may have been exposed to seek medical attention if symptoms appear. Federal health officials continue to investigate the source of contamination and monitor for further cases as they urge caution regarding raw onions and other potentially affected ingredients.
