🚧 Las Vegas Grand Prix Road Disruptions: What Travelers Need to Know
As preparations for the Las Vegas Grand Prix ramp up, residents and tourists will experience increased road disruptions around the racecourse scheduled for Nov. 21-23. Crews are finalizing infrastructure for the 3.8-mile circuit, installing track lighting, barriers, and modifying pedestrian bridges along key sections of Las Vegas Boulevard, Koval Lane, and Sands and Harmon avenues.
Las Vegas Boulevard
On the Strip, track lighting installation will continue nightly, resulting in lane reductions between midnight and 9 a.m. between Spring Mountain Road and Harmon Avenue. At least one lane in each direction will remain open. In addition, the two southbound lanes and sidewalk in front of the Bellagio will remain closed through Nov. 20 to complete the Bellagio Fountain Club hospitality space.
Starting this weekend, pedestrian bridge enclosures will be installed, leading to nightly closures of three bridges from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.:
Cromwell-Caesars Palace bridge (closed nightly from Sunday until Nov. 6)
Treasure Island to Venetian bridge (closed Nov. 7-11)
Harmon-Las Vegas Boulevard bridge (closed Nov. 7-11)
These bridges will reopen to pedestrian traffic outside of these working hours.
Koval Lane and Sands Avenue
Track barriers are already in place along Koval, with barrier installation shifting to Sands Avenue. Nightly work will take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Nov. 15, allowing only one travel lane in each direction. During the day, two lanes will be open. The intersection at Sands and Koval will see travel restrictions and adjusted traffic signals, and access to the Sphere’s driveways will be limited.
Additional Pedestrian Bridge Installations
An additional pedestrian bridge installation at Koval and Flamingo Road will close Koval at this intersection from 9 p.m. on Nov. 6 to 6 a.m. on Nov. 7. Despite the closure, access to nearby Jay’s Market will remain open from Flamingo Road.
RTC Bus Stop Closures
Several RTC bus stops on Koval will be closed until further notice, including stops 1253, 1248, 1259, 1260, 1261, 1249, and 1247. Riders can check for updates on the RTC website or by calling 702-228-7433 and pressing *4 for alerts.
With construction work intensifying, road users are encouraged to stay updated on closures and allow extra time when traveling near the Las Vegas Grand Prix circuit.
🏒 Golden Knights Head to L.A. with Perfect Homestand, Road Wins in Sight
The Vegas Golden Knights wrapped up an impressive 4-0 homestand with a decisive 5-0 victory over the Calgary Flames on Monday at T-Mobile Arena. The win marked the Knights’ best home stretch yet, where they outscored opponents 24-8, building momentum as they head back on the road. Their first trip away from home this season was rocky, yielding an 0-2-1 record, but they’ll have a chance to improve when they take on the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday at Crypto.com Arena.
“We’ve got to find out if our game translates on the road, and it should,” coach Bruce Cassidy said, emphasizing the need to carry their home success into road games. The Knights will meet the Kings for the second time in just over a week, following a commanding 6-1 win at home against L.A. on Oct. 22, powered by center Tomas Hertl’s two goals.
While the Knights have been among the NHL’s top scoring teams this season, averaging 4.7 goals per game, their recent road games exposed some defensive vulnerabilities, with third-period leads slipping away twice in losses to the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Florida Panthers. Coach Cassidy sees room for improvement, confident they can shore up their defense on this trip.
A major boost comes from the return of center William Karlsson, who missed time due to an injury but has since contributed three points in two games. His line, featuring Alexander Holtz and Tanner Pearson, has allowed the Knights to outscore opponents 2-0 at even strength. Karlsson’s defensive presence takes some pressure off the Knights’ top line, which includes NHL points leader Mark Stone, with 18, and Jack Eichel, tied for third with 16.
“We kind of expected to have a good start to the season with them,” Stone said. Left wing Ivan Barbashev has been a standout as well, leading the team with seven goals.
The Knights showed a defensive masterclass against Calgary, allowing just 16 shots—their lowest since December 2021 against Anaheim—and aim to bring that level of play to their road games. A deep lineup, including a productive fourth line with Cole Schwindt, Nicolas Roy, and Keegan Kolesar, adds to their confidence as they head into a challenging matchup against a Kings team that will be coming off their own road game in San Jose the night before.
Cassidy cautioned against expecting an easy game. “Hopefully our guys don’t think that (it’ll be easy) just because we’ve scored some goals on a run at home,” he said. “We’ve got to play the right way every night and stick with it.”

💲 Las Vegas Tourism Gains 2.9% Amid Sports Surge, Election Looms as Key Factor
Las Vegas’ tourism economy remains robust, driven by an increased focus on sports tourism and an ongoing “post-COVID hangover” effect, according to Amanda Belarmino, assistant professor at UNLV’s William F. Harrah College of Hospitality. This effect, where travelers prioritize experiences and trips over other expenses, has helped mitigate the impact of a challenging economy for many Americans.
“We know that we are in a bad economy for most Americans right now, however, this has not impacted travel and tourism as it usually does,” Belarmino said in an email. She noted that post-pandemic attitudes are still influencing spending patterns, with visitors more willing to allocate funds for experiences. This trend, along with a newfound emphasis on sports tourism, has sustained Las Vegas’ tourism numbers and offset potential economic slowdowns.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) reported a 2.9% increase in visitation over the first nine months of 2024, totaling 31.4 million visitors. September alone saw 3.4 million visitors—a 1.6% rise over last year—thanks to high-profile events such as the Canelo Alvarez-Edgar Berlanga boxing match, the iHeartRadio Music Festival, and multiple Las Vegas Raiders home games. Convention attendance was a significant contributor, rising 29% in September with 527,000 attendees, fueled by events like Workday Rising and the large-scale MINExpo.
Tourism-Boosting Trends:
Hotel Occupancy and Rates: Hotel occupancy in September rose by 1.3 percentage points to 83.9%, but the overall number of rooms dropped slightly due to the closures of the Tropicana and Mirage. September’s average daily room rate, however, dipped by 2.6% to $196.34 following an 11.7% increase in August.
Road Traffic: Auto traffic into Las Vegas on major highways rose 3.1% year-over-year, though exact figures on tourist versus local traffic weren’t available.
Awaiting Airport Data: Passenger counts from Harry Reid International Airport for September are still pending.
Belarmino suggested that election results could influence Las Vegas’ economic trajectory. She anticipates that a win for Donald Trump in the 2024 election could support growth in the tourism economy, though she did not provide specifics. However, she expressed concerns about a potential downturn if the current administration continues, citing issues like rising government spending and high fuel prices that could hinder Las Vegas’ ability to sustain its tourism growth without significant adjustments.
🏚️ Nevada Tops U.S. in Real Estate Growth, Driven by Population and Investment
Nevada has seen a significant increase in real estate agents, adding more to its ranks than any other state, according to a new study by Flatworld Mortgage Solutions. The Silver State added around 1,140 new agents from 2022 to 2023, well ahead of Tennessee and Missouri, which added 850 and 770 agents respectively. Meanwhile, states like California, North Carolina, Texas, and Florida experienced sharp declines in real estate agents, with California seeing the largest decrease, losing 8,160 agents.
This growth in Nevada’s real estate sector is seen as a reflection of the state's overall economic and population expansion, according to Las Vegas Realtors (LVR) President Merri Perry. “Nevada’s growth in Realtor jobs highlights our state’s reputation for having a robust real estate market and a growing economy,” she noted, adding that while housing sales have slowed, Southern Nevada’s comparative advantages continue to attract investment and population growth.
Though the region’s real estate membership remains strong, LVR reports a small decrease in its licensed members—from 16,967 in 2022 to 15,920 currently—suggesting that Nevada’s realtor growth may be occurring outside Southern Nevada. Rajeev Kumar, executive vice president at Flatworld, points to the state’s appealing economic factors, like affordability, steady demand for housing, and climate as reasons for the recent rise in real estate professionals.
This influx of agents stands in contrast to the national trend of declining interest in real estate as a profession, with national membership numbers at a low last seen in 2016. Despite the growth in Nevada, Las Vegas faces unique housing challenges. The city is grappling with a housing crisis, with the median sale price for single-family homes nearing its record high, currently sitting at $479,900—a 6.6% increase over last year. With more homes remaining on the market longer, the number of single-family home sales has dropped by 16.2% month-over-month and by 1.6% from September 2022, highlighting ongoing issues with housing affordability and availability in Southern Nevada.
Despite these challenges, experts believe Nevada’s economic landscape, combined with the demand for housing, will continue to attract agents and investment, positioning the state as a resilient market amid national declines.
