High Turnout in Nevada’s Early Voting Highlights Nonpartisan Voter Power in Close 2024 Race

Over 1 million Nevadans have already voted in the 2024 election, with early turnout showing strong Republican participation, a trend reversal that now has Democrats mobilizing to catch up. Experts believe the outcome will hinge on Nevada’s large nonpartisan voter bloc, as both Democrats and Republicans work to gain their support in the final days leading up to Election Day.

As of Friday night, early voting figures reveal a near-even split: 398,868 votes from Republicans, 353,766 from Democrats, and 295,755 from nonpartisan or other parties. UNLV political science professor Dan Lee emphasized that “the numbers so far don’t indicate a sweep for either side,” underscoring that it’s likely to be a tight race. With each side confident they can win over undecided voters, the stakes are high in this battleground state, which could impact the national result.

Republican Surge in Early Voting

Republicans have taken an unprecedented lead in early voting—a departure from past election cycles in Nevada. UNLV’s David Damore, director of The Lincy Institute and Brookings Mountain West, noted the shift, explaining that GOP strategies now encourage supporters to vote early through any available means, including mail, online, and in-person early voting. “It’s a total inverse for how elections have occurred in Nevada over the last decade,” said Republican strategist Jeremy Hughes. In previous elections, Republicans typically lagged in early voting, aiming to make up the difference on Election Day, but now Democrats are the ones playing catch-up.

The GOP’s early voting turnout could signal a “red mirage,” where Republican votes appear to dominate in initial counts before late-arriving Democratic mail ballots balance the results. However, Damore explained that changes in ballot processing might allow Nevada counties to release more early results, potentially reducing the mirage effect seen in past cycles.

The Nonpartisan Vote as the Deciding Factor

Nonpartisan voters could be the ultimate deciders in Nevada’s tight race. Historically, nonpartisans made up 30% of registrants but only 20% of turnout in recent elections, though this cycle they represent 28% of early voting so far. This group’s leanings remain unpredictable, with Lee pointing out the “black box” quality of these voters, whose preferences could sway either way based on issues like the economy, abortion rights, or dissatisfaction with either party’s candidate.

Hughes, the GOP strategist, expects nonpartisan voters to vote similarly to 2022, when many opted for candidates across party lines, a pattern that could continue in Nevada’s split-ticket trend. Democratic strategist Molly Forgey, meanwhile, sees opportunity among young, diverse nonpartisan voters, who may be leaning toward Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, and believes late-arriving mail ballots will boost Democratic turnout.

Campaigns Double Down on Voter Outreach

With both parties seeing potential in nonpartisan voters, each side is actively courting this group in the final stretch. Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Nicholas Simões Machado highlighted early investments in on-the-ground efforts targeting both Democrats and nonpartisans, stressing that these voters are crucial for a statewide win. The Trump campaign’s Nevada communications director Halee Dobbins, meanwhile, emphasized the effectiveness of Trump’s messaging, noting that Nevadans “are embracing President Trump’s message to vote early.”

Both campaigns are pressing hard for final turnout, but as results start coming in, nonpartisan voter decisions will likely dictate the balance of power in Nevada’s close 2024 election.Subscribe to SummerSouth Insider

🏈 Raiders Look to Break Losing Streak in High-Stakes Game Against Bengals

The Las Vegas Raiders (2-6) are heading to Cincinnati to face the Bengals (3-5) on Sunday in a high-stakes matchup as both teams look to recover from a tough first half of the season. With their bye week around the corner, the Raiders are eager for a win to build confidence and momentum after four consecutive losses. Meanwhile, the Bengals, who started the season with playoff aspirations, hope to use the Raiders matchup as a springboard to get back on track.

Game Details:

  • Who: Raiders at Bengals

  • When: Sunday, 10 a.m. PT

  • Where: Paycor Stadium, Cincinnati, OH

  • TV: Fox (Kevin Kugler, Daryl Johnston)

  • Radio: KRLV-AM (920), KOMP-FM (92.3)

  • Line: Bengals -7, Over/Under 45

Series History and Recent Matchup

The Raiders and Bengals have met frequently since 1968, with Las Vegas holding a 21-13 series advantage despite recent losses in their last two encounters. The most memorable recent matchup came during the 2022 postseason when the Bengals secured a 26-19 win, their first playoff victory in over three decades, with a game-clinching interception at the goal line.

Key Storylines

1. Raiders Seeking a Much-Needed Reset Las Vegas coach Antonio Pierce emphasized the importance of entering the bye week on a positive note, especially with key players managing nagging injuries. “We need a reset...and confidence,” Pierce said. He stressed the importance of breaking the losing streak, noting the impact of a loss lingering over the two-week break.

2. Offensive Struggles and Red Zone Woes Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew delivered a strong game against Kansas City last week, but red zone inefficiency and a late fumble undercut their chances. The Raiders rank near the bottom of the league in rushing yards per game, and Pierce acknowledged the importance of persistence. “You have to keep shooting your shot,” he said, underscoring his belief that consistency and effort will eventually yield results.

3. Challenges from a Talented Bengals Squad The Bengals’ formidable passing game, led by quarterback Joe Burrow and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, ranks seventh in the NFL. While the Raiders’ defense could get a slight break with Bengals WR Tee Higgins listed as doubtful, Chase remains a daunting matchup. “If you want to argue [Chase] is the best, I don’t have a strong rebuttal for that,” Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham said, acknowledging the challenge.

Injury Report

Raiders:

  • Out: C Andre James (ankle)

  • Questionable: RG Dylan Parham (foot), LB Robert Spillane (knee), RB Zamir White (quadriceps)

  • Full Participants: TE Brock Bowers, TE Harrison Bryant, CB Jack Jones, WR Jakobi Meyers, LT Kolton Miller, S Tre’von Moehrig

  • Questionable: WR Charlie Jones (groin), S Geno Stone (shin)

  • Full Participants: QB Joe Burrow, DT Kris Jenkins Jr., LDE Sam Hubbard, RT Amarius Mims

Prediction

With a fired-up home crowd and more consistent offensive play, the Bengals have an edge. Prediction: Bengals 27, Raiders 16.

⛳️ Crazy Golf Club to Debut at Mandalay Bay with Multi-Level Entertainment

The soon-to-open Swingers Crazy Golf Club at Mandalay Bay is set to redefine the miniature golf experience in Las Vegas, offering a 40,000-square-foot entertainment hub complete with themed mini golf courses, carnival games, and a lively social atmosphere. Co-CEO and co-founder Matt Grech-Smith, speaking from the company’s London headquarters, anticipates that guests will be drawn in by the club’s wide-ranging attractions when it opens on Nov. 8.

Located near Mandalay Bay’s west entrance, Swingers features four unique nine-hole courses—Clocktower, Hot Air Balloon, Carousel, and Meteorite—designed with whimsical obstacles like animated windmills, carousels, jumps, and loops to challenge all skill levels. Players can also enjoy classic carnival games such as skeeball and ring toss to earn points redeemable for prizes like board games, comic books, and Swingers-branded items.

“We’ve created this immersive environment where guests can truly lose themselves,” Grech-Smith said, describing Swingers as a social gathering spot first and foremost. The venue includes multiple themed bars, DJs, and caddies who deliver drinks to players as they golf. Adding to the ambiance, Swingers brings a slice of New York’s dining scene with Emmy Squared Pizza, which will serve Detroit-style pizza and craft cocktails.

Unique Design and Immersive Details

Swingers’ design centers on a multistory English country estate brought to life with a projection mapping system that alters the landscape with growing vines, day-to-night transformations, and seasonal decor for events like Halloween and Valentine’s Day. “It’s a real canvas to play with,” Grech-Smith said, noting that the venue’s scent, called Flower Shop, adds a final sensory layer.

Artificial floral gardens complement the design, and the aroma adds to the immersive experience. “It helps your brain go there,” Grech-Smith explained, noting how team members now identify the signature scent as part of the “Swingers” experience.

Pricing and Expansion Plans

At $35 per nine-hole round, Swingers aims to provide a social entertainment experience with an accessible price point, based on customer research from other Swingers locations in London, New York, and Washington D.C. Las Vegas will serve as the company’s new flagship, with future locations planned for Dubai later this year and Boston next year.

🏎️ Vegas Grand Prix Weekend Room Rates Show Modest Uptick, Stabilizing After Initial Dip

Hotel rates in Las Vegas for the upcoming Formula 1 Grand Prix have seen slight improvements, according to a recent report by Truist Securities, although they still lag behind last year’s prices. The report, released Oct. 23, notes a marginal increase in rates since September, suggesting the market may be stabilizing ahead of the race weekend from Nov. 21-23.

A survey of room rates reveals that MGM Resorts properties average $1,314.72 for a three-night stay during race weekend, while Caesars Entertainment properties average $987.41. The Bellagio remains the most expensive MGM property for the weekend, with rates at $2,706.66, while Excalibur offers the lowest rates at $636.57. For Caesars properties, a three-night stay at Caesars Palace costs $2,037.27, while the Linq is the most affordable at $687.48.

Despite initial weak demand leading to a projected $30 million revenue loss for MGM Resorts, company CEO Bill Hornbuckle remains optimistic about the event’s long-term potential, especially in terms of attracting high-end visitors. Hornbuckle noted during an earnings call that although hotel bookings have been slower than expected, he expects the event’s impact on gaming and high-end tourism to be significant, stating that MGM’s revenue projections for the event could meet or exceed initial expectations in other areas.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend room rates initially raised expectations for a high-revenue weekend, but prices have been adjusted from the highs seen during last year’s race, when Caesars Palace rates started as high as $5,323. Caesars properties later reduced rates to $2,420 closer to the event. Now, with a steadier pricing structure, hotels are positioning themselves to attract a broader range of attendees.

As the Las Vegas Grand Prix approaches, analysts and hotel operators are keeping a close watch on room booking trends to assess how demand will develop in the final weeks leading up to the race.
