❎ Harris-Trump Showdown: New Nevada Poll Shows Near Tie as Election Nears
A new Emerson College poll conducted among 700 likely voters in Nevada reveals a tightly contested race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. Harris leads Trump by a razor-thin margin, with 47.8% of support compared to Trump’s 47.4%. However, the poll’s margin of error of ±3.6 percentage points indicates that the race is effectively tied, signaling a potential battleground state in the 2024 election. The poll, conducted in collaboration with RealClearWorld, shows that 2% of respondents are backing a third-party candidate, 2% remain undecided, and 1% do not plan to vote for either major candidate.
When factoring in the leanings of undecided voters, the gap remains narrow. Among undecided voters, 39% lean toward Trump, 34.9% toward Harris, and 26.2% towards neither. If these undecideds break as currently indicated, Harris’s adjusted support would rise to 48.6%, with Trump close behind at 48.3%.
The poll underscores significant demographic divides. Men favor Trump by 9 percentage points, while women favor Harris by 8 points. Additionally, Harris has a notable advantage among union households, where she garners 50% support compared to Trump’s 45%. Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, noted that Nevada’s gender and union dynamics could play a crucial role in the final election outcomes.
Nevada Senate Race: Brown Gains Ground on Rosen
In Nevada’s Senate race, Republican challenger Sam Brown has closed the gap with Democratic incumbent Sen. Jacky Rosen. Rosen currently holds 48.6% support to Brown’s 44.9%, with 4.2% of voters still undecided. This represents a shift from earlier Emerson polling in October, which showed Rosen with a 50% to 42% advantage. Polling from September had her leading 48% to 41%.
Independent voters in Nevada remain nearly evenly split between Rosen and Brown, with Rosen holding a slight edge at 47% to Brown’s 46%. Among Hispanic voters, Rosen is favored by a wide margin of 58% to 35%, whereas Brown leads among white voters, 51% to 44%.
Voter Priorities and Approval Ratings
The economy remains the top issue for Nevadans, followed closely by housing affordability, immigration, threats to democracy, and education. These issues may heavily influence Nevada voters in a state with unique economic challenges and high rates of population growth.
The poll also measured favorability ratings for the candidates and current officeholders. Harris holds a 50% favorability rating among Nevadans, balanced by a 50% unfavorable view. Trump is viewed slightly more negatively, with 47% favorability against a 53% unfavorable rating.
President Joe Biden’s approval rating continues to struggle in Nevada, with only 36% of voters approving of his job performance, while 54% disapprove. However, Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo has a more favorable public perception, with a 43% approval rating, 26% disapproval, and 31% of voters remaining neutral.
Key Issues for Nevada Voters
As one of the most closely watched states in national elections, Nevada’s electorate may be swayed by issues particularly relevant to the region. With a large unionized workforce, tourism-dependent economy, and growing housing affordability crisis, candidates’ positions on these matters will likely be pivotal as campaigns ramp up in 2024.
🏈 Raiders Fire Three Offensive Coaches After Bengals Loss Amid Season Struggles
Following a 41-24 defeat by the Bengals, Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce promised swift changes to address the team's ongoing struggles, particularly on offense. Pierce made good on that promise Sunday night, as the Raiders (2-7) announced the firing of offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, offensive line coach James Cregg, and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello. These dismissals came on the heels of the Raiders’ fifth consecutive loss, highlighting Pierce’s commitment to reshaping his coaching staff amid a disappointing season.
The Raiders’ offense has been a key point of concern all season, producing only 18.7 points per game, placing them among the NFL’s bottom seven teams in scoring. Persistent issues include inconsistent quarterback play, frequent injuries, turnovers, and a lack of cohesion on the offensive line. All three dismissed coaches—Getsy, Cregg, and Scangarello—were new hires this season, but Pierce’s frustration with the lack of offensive progress led to a midseason overhaul of his offensive staff.
Scott Turner, the Raiders’ current passing game coordinator, could be tapped to take over as offensive coordinator, though no official replacement has been named yet. The Raiders have a bye week before returning in two weeks to face the high-scoring Miami Dolphins, providing Pierce with a critical window to assess and make further adjustments to his staff and strategy.
“This reset goes for all of us. It’s a group effort, a team effort. We all have to find a way to get better,” Pierce said after Sunday’s loss, emphasizing a team-wide commitment to improvement. Pierce, who took over as head coach in January, had originally planned to bring in Kliff Kingsbury as his offensive coordinator. However, Kingsbury ultimately accepted the same role with the Washington Commanders, where his offense, led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, is averaging 29.2 points per game, the fourth-highest in the NFL. After Kingsbury’s decision, Pierce turned to Getsy, whose tenure lasted only halfway through the season due to ongoing offensive struggles.
While Pierce’s focus has been largely on improving offensive output, the Raiders’ defense has also taken a step back this year. Last season, the defense ranked ninth in points allowed, but this year it has slipped to giving up the fourth-most points in the league. Pierce acknowledged that he would use the bye week to evaluate defensive performance as well, aiming for a comprehensive overhaul.
“I’ve got a whole week to figure that out, but we’ve got to do that job as a staff,” Pierce said, expressing his disappointment in the defense’s performance this season. “We had high expectations for our defense, and obviously we’re not playing well.”
With a full week before their next game, the Raiders face a critical juncture. Pierce’s decisive actions indicate he is prepared to make further staff changes if necessary, as he works to turn around a team that has struggled to meet preseason expectations on both sides of the ball.

🎰 Lucky October: Big Wins and Major Jackpots Across Las Vegas Valley
For much of the country, Halloween brings a rare opportunity to don costumes, indulge in a bit of fantasy, and perhaps partake in festive drinks. But in Las Vegas, the spirit of spectacle and celebration is a year-round affair. The Las Vegas Strip and Fremont Street Experience offer that lively, costume-like atmosphere every day, complete with gaming action that occasionally turns dreamers into overnight millionaires. This past month, Las Vegas celebrated several lucky winners who scored big on the slots and table games across the Valley. Here’s a rundown of five memorable jackpot wins from October.
5. $516K Slots Jackpot at a Henderson Casino
A Michigan visitor enjoyed a slice of Las Vegas luck at a Henderson casino, hitting a whopping $516,000 slots jackpot. The timing couldn’t have been better for the player, who hit it big shortly after watching the Oregon football game on a Saturday. While the outcome of the game may not have gone his way, the six-figure win left him with plenty to celebrate.
4. $2.3M Powerball Ticket Sold at Primm Lottery Store
Primm, Nevada, known as the state’s last stop on the border before California, struck it rich this month when it sold a Powerball ticket worth $2.3 million. The lucky ticket was purchased at the Primm Valley Lotto Store, a popular spot for lottery players crossing into Nevada from California, as Nevada does not participate in state lotteries. The win added Primm to the list of Nevada’s luckiest destinations, proving that fortune can hit just a short drive from the Las Vegas Strip.
3. $600K Table Games Jackpot at Las Vegas Strip Casino
The Las Vegas Strip was the site of another massive win when a visitor playing table games took home a $600,000 jackpot. The guest was reportedly in town for a football game, but left with far more than memories of the weekend’s sports action. Scoring big on the tables can be rarer than a slots jackpot, making this guest’s win all the more memorable.
2. $312K Table Games Jackpot at Another Strip Casino
Not long after, yet another big winner hit the tables on the Las Vegas Strip, winning a cool $312,000. Rumor has it that the player, named Mitch, celebrated the victory with plans to splurge on a new set of golf clubs. Mitch’s luck on the Strip is a reminder of the unpredictable fortune awaiting table game enthusiasts in Las Vegas.
1. $1.5M Slots Jackpot at Harry Reid International Airport
A traveler’s dreams came true at Harry Reid International Airport when they won a staggering $1.5 million slots jackpot. Airport slot machines are a Las Vegas icon, offering visitors a final chance at big wins before departing. The lucky player, who struck gold on the airport’s popular slot machines, left a mark on the record books with one of the biggest airport jackpots in recent memory. Whether they were just arriving or catching a departing flight, they’ll be leaving with a memorable souvenir of their time in Vegas.
🏎️ MGM and Caesars Drop Room Rates for F1 Weekend, Optimism Remains High
With the Las Vegas Grand Prix approaching on Nov. 21-23, hotel room rates for race weekend have shown slight improvement but still trail behind last year’s levels. According to a recent report by gaming analyst Truist Securities, room prices are showing signs of stabilization after a period of weaker-than-anticipated demand. While prices are up slightly from September's levels, analysts remain cautious about whether this momentum will continue in the final weeks leading up to the event.
A survey of Las Vegas hotel rates reveals that MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment properties are commanding lower prices than last year’s race weekend, although some high-end properties remain costly. The average three-night stay at nine MGM Resorts properties for race weekend is currently priced at $1,314.72, with Bellagio topping the list at $2,706.66 and Excalibur offering the lowest rates at $636.57, all with taxes and fees included. Room rates at Caesars properties, meanwhile, average $987.41, with the most expensive stay at Caesars Palace priced at $2,037.27, and the Linq offering the lowest rate at $687.48.
MGM Resorts Room Rates for Race Weekend (Nov. 21-23)
Bellagio: $2,706.66
Aria: $2,070.50
Vdara: $1,501.43
MGM Grand: $918.65
Mandalay Bay: $1,181.98
Park MGM: $1,100.07
New York-New York: $908.45
Luxor: $801.25
Excalibur: $636.57
Caesars Entertainment Room Rates for Race Weekend (Nov. 21-23)
Caesars Palace: $2,037.27
Paris: $924.78
Planet Hollywood: $858.12
Horseshoe: $714.12
Harrah’s: $694.85
Cromwell: $1,192.59
Flamingo: $790.09
Linq: $687.48
This year’s room rates show a notable drop compared to those initially set ahead of last year’s inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix, when a three-night stay at Caesars Palace was priced as high as $5,323. Prices for that event later adjusted, reaching around $2,420 for a stay at Caesars Palace a month out from race day. This year's lower-than-expected demand for rooms has contributed to a projected $30 million loss for MGM Resorts for F1 weekend. Still, MGM Resorts President and CEO Bill Hornbuckle remains optimistic, focusing on the potential revenue from gaming and high-end guests the event is expected to attract.
“Formula One, despite the slow start on rooms and some of that is not catchupable, when it comes to gaming, we’re looking at an equal, if not better, theoretical entry into that event,” Hornbuckle said during a company earnings call last Wednesday. “Now, as you know, anything can happen, but we are excited by, at least at the high end, what that event continues to generate for us in terms of people coming in.”
While initial demand was softer than anticipated, Truist Securities and MGM’s leadership are closely monitoring whether recent momentum in bookings will continue as the Las Vegas Grand Prix draws closer. The Las Vegas Strip is expected to see an influx of visitors, with gaming and entertainment venues eager to capitalize on the event, underscoring the city’s growing role as a major hub for global sports tourism.
