๐Ÿš Navigating the Las Vegas Strip: A Guide to Tram Systems

First-time visitors to Las Vegas are often surprised to find that the city lacks a comprehensive rail-based public transportation system for navigating the entire Strip. While cabs, rideshares, and walking are popular options, there are several tram systems available that offer a cost-effective way to travel along parts of the Strip. However, these trams do not cover the entire 4.2-mile stretch, and riders may need to walk between stops.

Hereโ€™s an overview of the three tram systems currently operating on the Strip:

1. Las Vegas Monorail

The Las Vegas Monorail is the longest and most extensive public transportation option along the Strip. Spanning about four miles, it runs along the east side of the resort corridor.

  • Stops: Sahara, Westgate, Las Vegas Convention Center, Harrahโ€™s/The LINQ, Flamingo/Caesars Palace, Ballyโ€™s/Paris, and MGM Grand.

  • Duration: A full ride takes approximately 14 minutes.

  • Cost:

    • Locals can ride for $1 per trip by purchasing tickets at customer service locations.

    • Tourists pay $6 per one-way trip, or $5.50 if purchased online.

    • Unlimited ride passes are available for up to seven days, offering savings for frequent riders.

The Monorail provides a convenient option for those attending events at the Las Vegas Convention Center or staying at off-Strip locations like Westgate. Download the Mobile Map here.

2. Aria Express Tram

Operated by MGM Resorts International, the Aria Express Tram is a free service connecting several properties in the central Strip area.

  • Stops: Bellagio, Vdara, Park MGM, The Shops at Crystals, and Aria.

  • Hours of Operation: Runs daily from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m.

This tram offers easy access to high-end shopping, dining, and entertainment venues, making it ideal for those exploring MGM properties.

3. Excalibur-Luxor-Mandalay Bay Tram

Another free tram operated by MGM Resorts, this line services the south end of the Strip.

  • Stops: Excalibur, Luxor, and Mandalay Bay.

  • Hours of Operation: Operates daily from 10 a.m. to midnight.

Perfect for those staying in the southern Strip resorts, this tram offers quick and easy access to attractions like the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay or the Tournament of Kings dinner show at Excalibur.

Future Developments

A fourth tram, which previously connected Treasure Island to the former Mirage, is currently out of service. The closure is due to Hard Rock Internationalโ€™s ongoing transformation of the Mirage property. This tram is expected to resume operations once the renovations are complete, which could take up to three years.

Tips for Tourists

While the trams offer convenient and cost-effective transportation, their segmented routes mean visitors may need to walk between lines or supplement their journey with other transportation options. To maximize convenience:

  • Plan your route in advance using tram schedules and maps.

  • Consider unlimited Monorail passes if you plan to travel frequently along the east side of the Strip.

  • Take advantage of the free trams to save money when visiting MGM properties.

๐Ÿ’ Golden Knights Return Home for One Game Against Capitals Before Hitting the Road Again

The Vegas Golden Knights are back at T-Mobile Arena on Sunday for a quick stop before resuming their road-heavy schedule. After a successful fathers trip, with wins against Anaheim and Utah, the Knights (11-4-2) are looking to avoid a repeat of their last brief home stint when they face the surging Washington Capitals (11-4-1).

Deja Vu: Tough Opponent Awaits

Earlier this month, the Knights returned from a two-game road trip to face the Carolina Hurricanes, only to suffer their first home loss of the season, a 5-2 defeat. Now, another formidable Metropolitan Division opponent looms.

The Capitals, after an 8-2-0 start, have cooled slightly but remain dangerous. They are fresh off an impressive 5-2 road win over the Colorado Avalanche on Friday. Center Dylan Strome leads the team with 24 points in 16 games, while captain Alex Ovechkin continues his quest to break Wayne Gretzkyโ€™s all-time goal record, needing just 31 more goals to tie.

Ovechkin has had a quiet career against the Knights, scoring five goals in 12 regular-season games. However, the spotlight may shift to another familiar face.

Logan Thompsonโ€™s Vegas Homecoming

Capitals goalie Logan Thompson returns to Las Vegas for the first time since being traded by the Knights on June 29. Thompson has been a revelation for Washington, becoming the first goalie in franchise history to win his first seven starts. He was crucial in their early-season success, helping the Capitals to the top of the Metropolitan Division.

Thompson got the better of his former team on Oct. 15, stopping 24 shots in Washingtonโ€™s 4-2 victory at Capital One Arena. Heโ€™s expected to start again Sunday, following a solid performance in an overtime loss to Toronto on Wednesday.

Knights Heating Up

The Knights have bounced back since their early-season loss to Washington, winning eight of their past 11 games. Theyโ€™ve also picked up points in their last four road games, thanks in part to the stellar play of goalie Adin Hill.

Hill rebounded after a rough outing against Carolina with two strong performances on the fathers trip, allowing just four goals on 58 shots. His 32-save effort against Utah on Friday helped Vegas rally from a two-goal deficit for a 4-2 victory.

โ€œWe donโ€™t like to give up in here,โ€ said center William Karlsson, who scored the game-winner against Utah. โ€œAnd we have a good goalie, too. That helps a lot.โ€

Keys to the Game

Vegas hopes to carry their road success into Sundayโ€™s matchup and avoid a repeat of their last home performance. With their fathers trip sweep extending their record in those games to 11-0-1, the team is riding high on confidence.

However, stopping a potent Capitals lineup led by Strome and Ovechkin, and solving a red-hot Thompson, will be critical.

After Sundayโ€™s game, the Knights hit the road again, underscoring the importance of making the most of their brief home appearance.

๐ŸŽถ ComplexCon Makes Its Las Vegas Debut with High Hopes and Big Plans

For Aaron Levant, the founder of ComplexCon, the eventโ€™s move to Las Vegas is more than just a change in venue โ€” itโ€™s a game-changer. Describing it as a โ€œone-plus-one-equals-10 moment,โ€ Levant believes the synergy between ComplexCon and Las Vegas will create something monumental.

After years of success in Long Beach, California, ComplexCon, a premier convention celebrating streetwear, hip-hop, art, and culture, will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center for the first time this Saturday and Sunday.

โ€œWeโ€™re going to grow this thing bigger than ever before,โ€ Levant said, confident that the eventโ€™s relocation will boost its profile and reach.

What is ComplexCon?

ComplexCon is no ordinary convention. Think of it as a mash-up of the worldโ€™s coolest shopping mall, an immersive art gallery, and a live music festival. The event draws sneakerheads, streetwear enthusiasts, hip-hop fans, and art lovers from around the globe.

โ€œI think of it as the coolest mall in the whole world that we build for two days,โ€ Levant explained.

Since its inception in 2016, ComplexCon has become the go-to event for fans and brands alike, featuring exclusive product launches, interactive installations, and performances from top-tier artists.

A Star-Studded Lineup

This yearโ€™s event is curated by Travis Scott, the hip-hop superstar and sneaker mogul. Scott, who has been closely involved in shaping the event, will headline Sundayโ€™s music lineup. His creative influence extends beyond the stage, impacting everything from the eventโ€™s design to its brand partnerships.

โ€œWeโ€™ve really allowed him to come in and put his creative fingerprint across the whole show,โ€ Levant said.

Joining Scott are fellow rap heavyweight Playboi Carti, the iconic Drink Champs podcast featuring Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, and a sprawling art exhibit curated by Casey Zoltan, showcasing the work of over 750 international artists.

The event also features a food experience curated by former Vegas-based food influencer Keith Lee, ensuring that every sense is catered to.

A Marketplace Like No Other

One of ComplexConโ€™s main attractions is its marketplace, featuring nearly 300 brands, from industry giants like Nike and Asics to up-and-coming streetwear designers. Each brand offers exclusive products that can only be purchased at the event, making it a must-visit for collectors and fans.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet brand creators, designers, athletes, and musicians, all of whom contribute to the vibrant and immersive environment.

A Gamble on Vegas

Moving ComplexCon to Las Vegas wasnโ€™t without its risks. Levant admits he faced skepticism about relocating from Southern California, where the event could easily draw from a massive local population.

โ€œHonestly, a lot of people told me I shouldnโ€™t go to Vegas,โ€ he said. โ€œThey said itโ€™s a tough market.โ€

But Levant saw an opportunity to expand ComplexConโ€™s reach. โ€œOver 35% of attendees are coming from outside the West Coast, from across the country and around the world,โ€ he said, positioning Las Vegas as a gateway to a national and international audience.

Big Ambitions

Levant envisions ComplexCon evolving into a citywide event, similar to Austinโ€™s South by Southwest. โ€œWe want to take over multiple venues, both day and night, and use the amazing city you guys have as our canvas,โ€ he said.

Until then, Levant is focused on making ComplexCon a memorable experience. He aims to create real-world connections that resonate with attendees long after the event ends.

โ€œThese are things that leave a tactile feeling and a memory with me,โ€ Levant said. โ€œAnd what we hope to do with our brand is produce these events that bring people into the world of Complex.โ€

ComplexCon by the Numbers

  • Dates: Saturday and Sunday

  • Location: Las Vegas Convention Center

  • Expected Attendance: 60,000

  • Brands Featured: 300

  • Artists Showcased: 750+

With its first foray into Las Vegas, ComplexCon is poised to leave a lasting impression, bringing together fans, brands, and creators in a celebration of culture, creativity, and community.

๐Ÿ’ฒ Cost of Dining and Living in Las Vegas Soars Post-Pandemic

The cost of living and dining out in the Las Vegas Valley has significantly increased since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, with prices at restaurants and grocery stores seeing sharp upticks. According to data from statistical analysis website Numbeo, meals at inexpensive restaurants now cost nearly $10 more on average compared to pre-pandemic levels.

Dining Costs: Then and Now

At the end of 2023, the average cost of a meal for one person at an inexpensive restaurant in Las Vegas was $26.08, up from $16.86 in 2019. For comparison, a similar meal in 2014 cost around $16.

For those dining at mid-range restaurants, the average cost of a three-course meal for two rose from $72.22 in 2019 to $79 by late 2023. Back in 2015, that same meal would have set diners back $65.53.

Even fast-food prices have surged. A typical McDonaldโ€™s meal climbed from $8.33 in 2019 to $13.18 in 2023, a stark increase from $6.81 in 2016.

Beverage Prices Climb

The rising cost of beverages has mirrored the general trend:

  • A 0.33-liter bottle of Coca-Cola or Pepsi now averages $2.42, up from $1.67 in 2019.

  • Bottled water (0.33 liters) increased from $1.46 in 2019 to $2.12.

  • The price of a standard cup of coffee rose from $4.37 to $5.27.

Grocery Costs Skyrocket

The jump in grocery prices has been just as dramatic, with staples seeing some of the highest increases:

  • Milk (1 liter): $0.71 in 2019 to $1.02 in 2023.

  • White bread (loaf): $1.96 to $3.96.

  • Eggs (dozen): $1.73 to $4.53, marking one of the steepest increases.

  • Rice (1 kg): $3.31 to $8.25, more than doubling in price.

Rising Costs of Living

A recent Go Banking Rates study highlighted the growing financial strain on Las Vegas Valley residents. According to the study, residents need to earn $111,416 annually to "live comfortably." This figure makes the valley the 16th most expensive metropolitan area among the 50 analyzed, surpassing cities like Atlanta, Nashville, and Phoenix.

The โ€œ50/30/20 Ruleโ€

The study based its findings on the widely used 50/30/20 rule, which recommends that individuals allocate:

  • 50% of income to essentials (rent, groceries, transportation, and health care).

  • 30% to discretionary spending (dining out, entertainment).

  • 20% to savings or debt repayment.

Inflation Hits Las Vegas Hard

The combination of rising dining and grocery prices highlights the broader inflationary pressures affecting Las Vegas. With essentials like rent and utilities also increasing, residents are finding it more challenging to stretch their incomes to meet the demands of daily life.
