🛣 Full Weekend Closure Scheduled for 215 Beltway in Summerlin Area for Peace Way Bridge Construction

Motorists in the Summerlin area should prepare for significant travel disruptions next week as the 215 Beltway is set to close completely between Flamingo Road and Tropicana Avenue. The closure, necessary for the construction of the Peace Way bridge, will last from the evening of December 13 through the morning of December 16.

Closure Details and Timeline

The staggered closure will begin on Wednesday, December 13, at 9 p.m., with the northbound 215 lanes closing first. Associated lane reductions will stretch as far south as Sunset Road, creating traffic bottlenecks in the area.

On Thursday, December 14, at 9 p a.m., the southbound lanes of the 215 will also close, with lane reductions extending up to Flamingo Road beginning at Town Center Drive. Once both directions are fully closed, the shutdown will remain in effect until 5 a.m. on Monday, December 16.

Construction Purpose

The closure will allow crews to install girders over the freeway as part of the ongoing Peace Way Bridge project. The bridge will connect Peace Way at Fort Apache Road west of the beltway with Chessie Court on the east side, significantly improving access and easing congestion in the area.

The $19.8 million project also includes road rehabilitation along Peace Way between Hualapai Way and Cimarron Road, with additional upgrades such as a new traffic signal at the intersection of Hualapai and Peace.

Detours and Recommendations

Clark County officials recommend drivers use alternate routes to bypass the closure:

  • For Northbound Access: Use Fort Apache Road to connect to the 215 at Flamingo Road.

  • For Southbound Access: Use Fort Apache Road to connect at Tropicana Avenue.

Signage has been placed along the 215 to notify motorists in advance and assist with navigating detours. Drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time during the closure period.

Impact on Local Traffic

The closure is expected to cause delays and increased traffic on surrounding roadways, particularly during peak travel hours. Fort Apache Road, one of the main recommended detours, is likely to experience heavy congestion as drivers seek alternate routes. Local businesses and residents are encouraged to anticipate disruptions and make necessary arrangements.

Bridge and Roadway Upgrades

The Peace Way Bridge project is a key infrastructure initiative aimed at improving east-west connectivity in the growing Summerlin area. In addition to the new bridge, the project includes:

  • Roadway resurfacing and upgrades on Peace Way from Hualapai Way to Cimarron Road.

  • Enhanced pedestrian and vehicle safety features, including a new traffic signal at Peace and Hualapai Ways.

These improvements are expected to benefit both residents and commuters by easing traffic flow and providing safer, more efficient travel options.

Stay Informed

Motorists are encouraged to stay updated on the project and traffic conditions through local news outlets, Clark County’s website, and social media channels.

🏒 Knights Deliver Historic Defensive Win Over Oilers

The Vegas Golden Knights showcased their best defensive performance of the season Tuesday night, shutting out the Edmonton Oilers in a rare 1-0 victory at T-Mobile Arena. Goaltender Adin Hill made 28 saves for his second shutout of the season, while Ivan Barbashev scored the game’s only goal on a fluke deflection.

The game was a defensive throwback, marking the first time in 80 years that an NHL contest ended with zero penalties and just one goal or fewer scored.

Defense Shines Against Edmonton’s Stars

The Knights (16-7-3) executed a near-perfect defensive plan to neutralize Edmonton’s superstar duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. For the second time this season, the Knights held both players without a point, limiting them to a combined six shot attempts. McDavid didn’t register a shot on goal until the third period.

“We were able to check in layers against them, and that’s when we’re the most effective,” coach Bruce Cassidy said.

Hill made critical saves late in the game, including during a third period where Edmonton outshot the Knights 16-2.

Barbashev’s Unlikely Game-Winner

Barbashev’s team-leading 13th goal of the season came on a play he admitted wasn’t meant to be a shot. A pass intended for Jack Eichel deflected off an Oilers defenseman’s skate and slid through goaltender Stuart Skinner’s legs.

“I tried to pass it to Jack twice,” Barbashev said. “Luckily, it hit the skate of the defenseman and went five-hole.”

The Knights only managed 16 shots on goal, but their tight defensive structure kept Edmonton at bay throughout.

Three Takeaways from the Win

1. Captain Mark Stone Nearing Return

Mark Stone, who has been sidelined since Nov. 6, shed his non-contact jersey during morning skate and is cleared for contact. While he may not return for Wednesday’s game against Anaheim, his impending comeback is a boost for a team that has gone 7-4-2 in his absence.

2. 4 Nations Face-Off Preview

Tuesday’s game previewed February’s 4 Nations Face-Off, where Jack Eichel and Connor McDavid will represent the United States and Canada, respectively. Eichel excelled defensively, helping the Knights contain McDavid. Adin Hill’s stellar play has also positioned him as a strong candidate for Canada’s goaltending roster.

“It would be a dream come true,” Hill said about the potential selection.

3. Grueling Schedule Ahead

The Knights face another back-to-back stretch starting Wednesday against the Anaheim Ducks. Ilya Samsonov is expected to return to the crease, looking to bounce back after allowing six goals in Saturday’s loss to Utah.

Looking Ahead

With their defensive form peaking and players like Stone nearing a return, the Knights are building momentum for the rest of the season. Tuesday’s historic win reinforced their ability to adapt and succeed in low-scoring, hard-fought games.

🌐 Sphere Operators Eye Increased Profitability with Expanded Offerings and Global Plans

After more than a year of operation, Las Vegas' Sphere is refining its strategy to boost profitability, with plans for a packed event calendar, new immersive films, and potential global expansion.

Daily Events and Growing Film Library

Sphere Entertainment Co. aims to host events daily, including multiple shows per day. The ongoing showings of Darren Aronofsky’s immersive film Postcard from Earth remain a staple, with ticket prices dropping slightly from $119 to $99 for general seating.

CEO James Dolan announced plans to expand the Sphere’s library of immersive films, including the debut of V-U2 An Immersive Concert Film, a cinematic adaptation of U2’s Sphere residency. Tickets for the film are priced between $100 and $200.

“We’ll continue to capture concerts using our Big Sky technology,” Dolan said, referring to the Sphere’s proprietary camera system used to create content for its massive 160,000-square-foot LED screen.

High-Demand Residencies and Special Events

Residencies and live performances remain a major draw:

  • Eagles Residency: Extended to 32 shows through April due to high demand, with tickets ranging from $314 to $2,500.

  • New Year’s Mini-Residency: Afterlife’s “The End of Genesys,” featuring EDM artist Anyma.

The Sphere has also dipped into live sports and business events, including:

  • UFC 306: Praised as one of the best UFC events by CEO Dana White but unlikely to return.

  • CES Keynote: Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian will deliver an immersive keynote in January.

Plans for Global Expansion

The Sphere concept is set to expand globally, with Abu Dhabi announced as the second location. The project, developed in collaboration with DCT Abu Dhabi, will build on lessons learned from the $2.3 billion Las Vegas Sphere, which faced cost overruns during construction.

While details about timelines and costs remain undisclosed, Dolan emphasized that the goal is to replicate the Sphere experience efficiently and eventually introduce additional locations worldwide.

Profitability Strategies

The Sphere’s path to profitability hinges on:

  1. Daily Event Scheduling: Hosting consistent, high-demand content.

  2. Diverse Revenue Streams: Expanding advertising, live sports, and business conferences.

  3. Global Expansion: Leveraging the Las Vegas Sphere’s success to build a network of venues worldwide.

The Future of Sphere Entertainment

Despite challenges like steep construction costs and investor scrutiny, the Sphere has captured public attention and redefined immersive entertainment. With an expanding event lineup, innovative content, and ambitious global plans, the Sphere aims to cement its place as a leader in the future of live and virtual experiences.

Peter Navarro Returns to Trump Administration Alongside Key Appointees for Second Term

President-elect Donald Trump has announced several high-profile appointments for his second administration, including Peter Navarro, the former White House trade adviser who recently served prison time for contempt of Congress related to the January 6 Capitol attack.

Peter Navarro’s New Role

Navarro will serve as Senior Counselor for Trade and Manufacturing, a position designed to capitalize on his expertise in economic policy and media strategy. During Trump’s first term, Navarro was known for his strong stance on China trade issues and his advocacy for tariffs, despite concerns over potential trade wars.

Navarro’s return marks a comeback after his four-month prison sentence for defying a subpoena from the January 6 House committee. Upon his release in July, Navarro addressed the Republican National Convention, claiming, “I went to prison so you won’t have to.”

Additional Cabinet Appointments

Trump also announced several other notable appointments:

  • Daniel Driscoll: A senior adviser to Vice President-elect J.D. Vance, will serve as Army Secretary.

  • Jared Isaacman: A tech billionaire and SpaceX private spacewalk participant, nominated as NASA Administrator.

  • Adam Boehler: A key negotiator in the Abraham Accords, appointed Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs.

Focus on Technology and Economic Policy

  • Gail Slater: Named Assistant Attorney General for Antitrust, tasked with addressing issues of Big Tech overreach. Slater has previously served on Trump’s National Economic Council.

  • Michael Faulkender: Appointed Deputy Treasury Secretary. A University of Maryland economics professor, Faulkender held a senior Treasury role in Trump’s first term and was chief economist at the America First Policy Institute.

Party Leadership Continuity

Trump confirmed that Michael Whatley will remain Chair of the Republican National Committee. Lara Trump, Eric Trump’s wife, is expected to continue her leadership role within the party.

Jared Isaacman’s Vision for NASA

Isaacman, 41, expressed enthusiasm for his new role as NASA Administrator. He has been involved in several SpaceX missions and is set to command the first crew to fly aboard SpaceX’s Starship, currently in testing. “I am passionate about America leading the most incredible adventure in human history,” he stated on social media.

Navarro’s Controversial Legacy

Navarro’s return brings both policy expertise and controversy. Known for his aggressive trade policies, he also caused diplomatic tensions, such as his infamous 2018 remark targeting Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, for which he later apologized.

As Trump continues to shape his administration, the mix of experienced policymakers and controversial figures underscores his focus on both continuity and bold leadership in his second term.

Fed Chair Powell’s Upcoming Comments

Anticipation is mounting for Powell’s address later today, as investors look for confirmation of a possible interest rate cut at the Federal Reserve’s final meeting of the year on December 18.

  • The CME FedWatch tool indicates a 74% likelihood of a 25 basis point rate cut, up from 66% last week.

  • Fed officials have signaled support for additional easing, reflecting confidence in the economy’s ability to handle lower rates.

Economic Data

The latest report on private payrolls showed:

  • 146,000 jobs added in November, slightly below economists' expectations.

  • A decline from October’s revised 184,000 jobs, suggesting a softening labor market.
Upcoming economic data, including Friday’s monthly jobs report, will further inform market sentiment.

Global Developments

  • France: Political instability looms as lawmakers prepare for a no-confidence vote that could topple the government.

  • South Korea: Stocks fell amid turmoil after the president declared martial law briefly, leading to calls for impeachment.

Corporate News

  • UnitedHealth Group (UNH) canceled its investor day following the tragic death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, who was fatally shot in Manhattan earlier today.
