🏩 Summerlin Resort-Casino Celebrates 25th Anniversary with Major Upgrades
The JW Marriott resort and Rampart Casino in Summerlin are marking their 25th anniversary with the completion of a sweeping $75 million renovation. The multi-year project has transformed the property’s hotel, casino, and public spaces, blending its signature Spanish Colonial architecture with modern elements to create a refreshed, luxurious guest experience.
Key Renovations Across the Property
Hotel Updates
The hotel’s 550 rooms and suites were redesigned with a desert-inspired color palette. Updated furnishings include residential dining tables, couches, ceiling fans, and 65-inch smart TVs. Guests can also enjoy upgraded amenities such as in-room coffee machines.
Wellness and Spa Enhancements
Renovations at the resort’s spa and fitness center included updates to the Hydra Lounge relaxation area, treatment rooms, and the gym. The spa enhancements are part of the property’s focus on wellness and well-being.
Casino Floor Refresh
The casino floor underwent extensive changes, including new lighting, fresh paint, updated carpeting, and wall coverings. A new high-limit slot room and a refreshed bar were added, providing a more vibrant and inviting gaming atmosphere.
Restaurant Transformations
Several of the resort’s dining venues were renovated, including the Market Place Buffet, Jade Asian Kitchen, the Italian bistro, and the 24-hour café. The updates provide guests with elevated dining experiences, combining modern aesthetics with diverse culinary offerings.
A Desert Oasis for Visitors
Set on 54 lush acres, the resort aims to offer guests a balance of tranquility and excitement. General Manager Michelle McHugh highlighted the property’s appeal as both a rejuvenating retreat and a vibrant entertainment destination.
“Nestled within the stunning desert landscape, golf courses, and shopping districts, our resort offers guests a rejuvenating oasis where uplifting hospitality and elevated experiences enable them to unwind and indulge in the very best of Las Vegas,” McHugh said.
The resort’s mix of wellness amenities and iconic casino experiences makes it a unique destination in the Summerlin area.
Renovation Leadership and Future Plans
The redesign was led by FRANK Architecture and Interiors, a prominent design firm, while local contractor Trident oversaw the construction. The renovations are part of an ongoing transformation, with additional updates planned through 2025. Specifics about future projects will be announced at a later date.
A Milestone Celebration
The JW Marriott and Rampart Casino, which first opened in July 1999, have served as a cornerstone of the Summerlin community for 25 years. With the completed renovations and more on the horizon, the property is poised to continue offering an elevated guest experience for years to come.
🏒 Golden Knights Secure Gritty 3-2 Victory Over Wild
The Vegas Golden Knights bounced back from Saturday’s loss in Edmonton with a statement win on Sunday, defeating the Minnesota Wild 3-2 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Victor Olofsson’s two-goal performance, including the decisive tally in the third period, propelled the Knights to victory and helped them earn four of six possible points on their latest road trip.
Despite their strong start and a solid third period, the Knights struggled during the second, prompting head coach Bruce Cassidy to emphasize the need for a more consistent effort.
“We’re still striving for that 60 minutes,” Cassidy said. “But winning the hockey game is what matters.”
Strong Start and Nail-Biting Finish
Vegas came out firing in the first period, establishing control early with Olofsson netting a power-play goal. Defenseman Shea Theodore added a goal and an assist, giving the Knights a 2-1 lead midway through the second period. However, the momentum shifted as the team went over 12 minutes without registering a shot on goal, allowing Minnesota to dominate possession.
The Wild capitalized late in the second, tying the game 2-2 with Kirill Kaprizov’s second goal of the night.
The Knights regained their edge early in the third when Olofsson’s shot deflected off Wild forward Freddy Gaudreau’s stick and past goaltender Jesper Wallstedt. The goal marked Olofsson’s second of the game and his fourth in three games, capping an impressive road trip for the left wing.
The game ended in dramatic fashion as Vegas faced a six-on-four disadvantage in the final 49 seconds due to a tripping penalty on Nicolas Roy. Defenseman Alex Pietrangelo and Jack Eichel managed to clear a loose puck in front of the crease in the dying moments, securing the victory.
“It was big by our group there, six-on-four at the end of the game,” Eichel said. “They’ve got some good offensive players over there. It’s just desperation right there.”
Key Performances Fuel Knights’ Success
Goaltender Ilya Samsonov made 20 saves, anchoring the Knights’ defensive effort. Olofsson continued his hot streak, while Eichel reached a major career milestone, recording two assists to become the fastest player in franchise history to hit 200 points. He achieved the mark in just 195 games, surpassing captain Mark Stone, who reached the milestone in 214 games.
“Time flies when you’re having fun,” Eichel said. “It’s been an amazing time here with this organization.”
Barbashev Injury a Concern
While the victory was significant, it came with a potential cost. Leading goal scorer Ivan Barbashev left the game late in the first period after a collision with Wild forward Marcus Foligno. Barbashev, who has 15 goals this season and is just 11 shy of his career high, did not return and will be evaluated further on Monday.
Road Trip Takeaways
Vegas’ ability to rebound after a tough loss in Edmonton demonstrated the team’s resilience. The Knights opened the road trip with a thrilling overtime win against the Central Division-leading Winnipeg Jets, followed by Sunday’s victory over second-place Minnesota.
Coach Cassidy praised the effort and noted the significance of the road trip.
“You’re playing three very good teams out West,” he said. “We’ve put ourselves in that category.”
Upcoming Stretch
The Knights return home for a favorable schedule, with seven of their next eight games at T-Mobile Arena, starting Thursday against the Vancouver Canucks. The home-heavy stretch provides a chance for the Knights to build on their success and maintain their standing in the Western Conference.
Three Key Takeaways from the Win
Resilient Road Warriors
The Knights have turned their early-season road struggles into a strength, going 9-2-2 in their last 13 away games. They’ve earned points in seven of their last eight road contests, showcasing their ability to perform under pressure.Eichel’s Historic Night
Eichel’s two-assist effort on Sunday not only helped secure the win but also cemented his place in Golden Knights history. His fast-paced production this season—42 points in 31 games—underscores his value to the team.Depth Players Step Up
With Barbashev sidelined and other top players seeing heavy attention, contributions from players like Olofsson and Samsonov were critical. Olofsson’s ability to deliver key goals has been a difference-maker during this road trip.
The Knights, now 20-8-3 on the season, look poised to capitalize on their momentum as they shift their focus to their upcoming homestand. Fans will be eager to see how the team continues to perform as they battle for position atop the Western Conference.

❎ Federal Reserve Signals Fewer Rate Cuts for 2025 Amid Strong Economy
Americans anticipating relief from high borrowing costs may face delays as the Federal Reserve signals a more cautious approach to lowering interest rates in 2025. At this week's policy meeting, the Fed is expected to cut its benchmark interest rate by a quarter-point to 4.3%—a full percentage point below its peak of 5.3% in July 2023. However, policymakers are likely to scale back plans for further rate cuts, citing persistent inflation and strong economic growth.
Key Takeaways from the Federal Reserve’s Decision
Gradual Rate Cuts Ahead
After three consecutive rate reductions since September, economists believe the Fed will now cut rates less frequently, perhaps at every other meeting or even more sporadically.
David Wilcox, a former Fed economist, explained: “We’re on the cusp of a transition to them not cutting every meeting. They’re going to slow the tempo of cuts.”
The Fed's inflation fight remains incomplete. Although inflation has dropped significantly from its mid-2022 peak of 9.1%, it remains above the Fed’s 2% target. Inflation excluding food and energy has been stuck at an annual rate of about 2.8% since March.
Economic Resilience and Persistent Inflation
The economy has outperformed expectations, growing at an annualized 2.8% during the July-September quarter. Consumer demand has remained robust, and November retail sales are expected to reflect healthy spending. However, inflation pressures are proving more stubborn than anticipated.
Fed Chair Jerome Powell acknowledged the dual challenge of strong growth and persistent inflation, saying, “The good news is, we can afford to be a little more cautious.”
Impact on Borrowing Costs
A slower pace of rate cuts means households and businesses will continue to face higher borrowing costs for mortgages, credit cards, and auto loans. Mortgage rates, for instance, remain far above pre-inflation surge levels.
Political and Policy Uncertainty
The potential for significant policy changes under President-elect Donald Trump, including tariffs, deportations, and corporate tax cuts, adds another layer of complexity. These changes could influence inflation and economic growth, prompting the Fed to tread cautiously.
Outlook for 2025
In September, Fed policymakers projected four rate cuts for 2025. Economists now expect two or three, while Wall Street traders predict even fewer.
Richard Clarida, former Fed vice chair, noted that if inflation remains above target, rates may need to stay elevated. Some economists argue the Fed should pause rate cuts entirely until inflation shows clearer signs of decline.
For now, the Fed’s gradual approach aims to balance economic growth with its mandate to stabilize prices. Powell has reiterated the importance of reducing rates cautiously to reach a “neutral” level—neither spurring nor restricting growth—while keeping inflation under control.
🗺 Over 45,000 Dead as Gaza Conflict Intensifies; Ceasefire Talks Advance
The war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas militants has claimed the lives of over 45,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Ceasefire negotiations, mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, have reportedly gained momentum after 14 months of fighting. The death toll in Gaza represents approximately 2% of the region’s prewar population of 2.3 million.

Recent Strikes

School Strike: A separate attack on a school in Khan Younis killed 13 people, including six children and two women.
Journalist Killed: Ahmad Baker Al-Louh, a journalist for Al Jazeera, was killed in a strike on Gaza's civil defense agency. The Israeli military claimed militants operated from the site, which Gaza’s civil defense agency denied.
Hostages and Initial Attack
The war began after Hamas militants launched an assault on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,200 people and abducting 250. Around 100 hostages remain in Gaza, with a third believed dead.
Humanitarian Perspective
The destruction in Gaza has left medics overwhelmed, with many victims unable to be reached under the rubble. Rights groups and the UN have criticized the scope of civilian casualties.
UN Commentary
Louise Wateridge, a UN spokeswoman, described meeting injured children and families devastated by recent bombings, highlighting the profound human suffering caused by the conflict.

If you have a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), now is the time to review your balance as most account holders face a December 31, 2024, deadline to use their funds. FSAs allow workers to set aside pre-tax money for qualified medical or dependent care expenses, but unlike Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), FSAs often come with strict "use-it-or-lose-it" rules.
Understanding Your FSA Deadlines and Options

About 70% of FSA holders must spend their funds by December 31. Any unspent funds by this date may be forfeited, so it’s crucial to check your plan’s rules.Grace Period or Carryover
Some plans offer a grace period of up to 2.5 months, allowing funds to be used through March 15, 2025.
Others permit a carryover of up to $640 into 2025.
For plans without these options, funds must be spent by December 31.
Run-Out Period
Even if the spending deadline is December 31, many plans allow an additional run-out period (up to three months) to submit reimbursement claims for eligible expenses incurred before the deadline.
Maximizing Your 2024 FSA Funds
Popular Eligible Expenses
Dental and Vision Care: These are the most common uses for FSA funds.
Over-the-Counter Products: Items like pain relievers, allergy medications, and acne treatments are eligible.
Prescription Medications and Medical Procedures: Check with your provider to confirm eligibility.

Starting 2025: Don’t Wait to Spend New FSA Funds
